Man it's been awhile since I saw Piccolo attack that was great
Gohan is strong after a short training he can almost go toe to toe with his Dad

I'm kind of surprised how overwhelmingly positive the reception has been for this episode. I don't think it's a bad episode but I don't think it's anywhere close to 56/57, which is the pinnacle of this series so far IMO.

I didn't find the fight visually impressive and Gohan being this strong has its own set of logical problems, but I think people are just willing to overlook that because Gohan is a fan favorite. The 2v2 part I found especially boring, Piccolo gets to do one thing sort of cool but Tien is totally shit on.

Is Kaioken SSB just something we're accepting Goku can do whenever he wants without repercussions now? He's done this 3 times since the Hit fight and now there seems to be 0 side effects when it originally screwed with his ki for days after. Also there doesn't seem like there's much difference between SSJ2 and SSJB.

maybe its just kk x 1 or something

Bet a special beam cannon from piccolo now could punch a hole through his chest just like it did back then.

He's dodge :P

I don't think so. Piccolo beat SSJ2 Gohan and Gohan without transforming was fighting very well against Goku.

And yet Goku withstood an attack that he was charging for several seconds without transforming. That does't give him good odds in a straight fight. Plus, Gohan got stronger since then.

What IS this attack? D:

Looks like a baby Stardust Breaker.

It's funny now that i really thinking about it how from Tien's perspective since he keeps stating it just a practice match clam down guys. Tien is probably confused how these guys are taking a simple tournament for money really bloody seriously and how intense it was getting.

The U10 fighter introduced this episode: ムリチム/Murichimu, perhaps a pun on "hopeless team"? Not a promising sign. ~Herms

lol

At least it settles the strongest human thing

Eh, not really, Gohan is leagues above both in power now. Krillin had to out think weak Gohan in a duel to win, whereas Tien took two punches from buff Gohan and walked away unscathed. We wont know what Tien can do UNTIL THEY GIVE HIM AN ACTUAL BLOODY FIGHT PLS TOEI

Eh. It was alright. Not that return to form people were hyping. I guess the payoff is better if it's a slow burn As opposed to the weird ass power ups these other characters are getting because they need to fill up the bench. At least it looks like he's progressing.

I want to see him just absolutely dominate people like he did versus cell/cell Jr and buu and the strongest guys being legitimately surprised by his power. As opposed to surprised because Gohan has been a beta this whole time lol

Well I don't think Krilin would have lost to Roshi.

Hi. This is vomit.

Dragon Ball is at its worst when the fights are one sided.

The big problem is Tenshinhan got his thunder stolen by Goku in his own episode. Krillin actually got moments to shine in his two-parter and recruitment episode.

I expected more from the technique he was charging. He's usually good with creating techniques that punch above their weight class.

Same, when Piccolo had the SURPRISE moment on Goku I thought he was pulling out a SBC through his chest, showing off the power of the Gohan/Piccolo Strategy Duo. I was going to be satisfied with the extra Gohan Punch finisher... but Goku's block wouldn't allow that =/

I don't know, I really liked when Recoome went beast mode on Vegeta, Krillin, and Gohan.

Oh, and same with Nappa as well. Really, I like the one sided battles when the heroes are the ones getting wrecked.

Krillin is Mumen Rider from OPM. Tien is more all back man. Both of them job, but one gets to look cool doing it.

Oh really? lol! I only remembered that one match.

The natural conclusion for Super will be Goku becoming the God of Destruction since he gives virtually zero fucks about his family and Gohan will become Earth's protector! Just train your little bro Goten, Gohan....please.

What I am thinking that after this tournament, Zenoh will do away with GoDs and Supereme Kais as a whole. So far every one of them have been shown to be incompetent to varying degree. Even in this very episode you see a Supreme kai overthinking, whilst the GoD making the mistake goign for pure brawn over brains. We know U7s Supreme Kai been incompetent as well,
that very fact being laid out in previous episodes, Beerus sleeps too much.

If I was Tien I would be seriously questioning whether this tournament I'm about to fight in is actually just about money.

The YouTube baiters are going to have a field day with this one.

Not that they haven't been already.

It's going to be glorious, Youtube and the rest of the internet are going to be flooded with even more white haired Ultimate Gohan fanart than ever before.

Can't wait.

I personally loved that since it shows Goku finally working on his weakness of dropping his guard when he thinks he's won.

Tien's a veteran from the old DB days back when characters trained by risking their lives from swimming from sharks, running from dinosaurs, and traversing rickety logs over mile high canyons. He knows the drill.

I really don't buy that as significant on Goku, he's very well shown to be competent in fights. Not letting your guard down was specifically already used as a lesson for Gohan, which is why it would be more meaningful for him to get that kind of hit on Goku.

He got nearly killed by a laser because he dropped his guard. So Goku not getting tag by Gohan in that moment shows that he's learning. Gohan just happens to share the same weakness.

This episode was a bit underwhelming.

I think the animators don't understand that Mystic Gohan's appeal was how understated it was: the short "whoosh" power up to turn it on rather than prolonged screaming, very sparing use of aura effects and impactful blows rather than endless dull flurries. It's now lost all its identity and is just a power up like any other.

Pretty clear Gohan stood on even footing against SSB alone. Trading blows like that while only a few in SSB would fuck up most people. It wasnt til Kaio Ken did anything do any damage. So I'd say Goku SSB and Gohan Mystic are close, but Kaio Ken is not a contest. Also Base Gohan also being on par with Goku's base lol. And yeah it was quite Clear Goku was taking it seriously even noted by the spectators. So while he might not be as strong right now I bet Goku knows he can surpass him hence him being the leader of the team, which leads me to another point.

What if there ends up being a leader battle. Oh god.

I'm just going to chock it up to a bunch of posturing. Gohan had to "show off" to prove to himself and to Goku (oh and more importantly to the audience) that he was powerful and relevant again.

Goku barely fought Gohan as a Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan, especially since Gohan kept demanding that Goku use his real power. And Goku didn't really take it seriously until Gohan told him to take it seriously, otherwise he would have fought in his god form right away instead of using Super Saiyan 2 until Gohan got on him.

Goku and Gohan landed two blows each Mystic vs SSB no damage delt to either they just shook it off like it was nothing. Goku can fight serious in any form. Fighting at his full power is a different story.

It was a brief encounter that had Gohan demanding that Goku go all out. So how much Goku was outputting in that moment is questionable. To say Gohan is on the level of Goku's god form, you need something more. This isn't like Goku vs. 17 where the two actually exchanged hits for several seconds.

Goku fighting seriously and using a lower Super Saiyan form is Goku not taking the fight really seriously. He's just messing around.

My favorite shot was actually Gohan and his dad walking in the restaurant, did you see that smug look on Piccolo's face?

Guess U10 is the joke team of the tournament, unless Gowasu pulls a fast one and does something crazy.

I wanna get into Dragon Ball again.

I watched most (maybe all?) of DBZ as a kid, can remember bits and pieces. Was never a hardcore fan.

Never watched a single ep of the original Dragon Ball, GT, any movies etc.

Should I just start watching Super from the start, or should I go back and watch old stuff? There's a lot of material to cover and idk if it's worth my time.

Read the original manga as a starter. It's one of the best, most fun comic books ever made, if not my personal favorite.

Super starts mediocre and gets good gradually but it's too reliant on nostalgia.

One thing I will say about this episode, it finally convince me that Kanzenshuu is the worst place on the internet to talk about power scaling. The mental gymnastics they used to justify how Goku withstood a fully charged energy blast from Piccolo in his base and trying to find ways to support the two-base theory and "power levels have been retcon" have reached levels of trolling. Like one poster suggesting that Goku's 'weak base form' is only on par with 18. Where they got this, I have no clue and I don't care anymore. Seriously, I have gotten better power level debates on Reddit.

To me, this episode should kill the two-base theory since Super Saiyan 2 Goku was fighting a stronger than ever Ultimate Gohan and it makes no sense for Goku to 'downgrade' himself from his powerful base from (since he took a blast from Piccolo) to Super Saiyan 2.

I'd say Gohan is a little below SSB.

He went roughly even with SSJ2 Goku and then started doing much better as the fight went on, he seemed to be getting stronger. Then he traded and actually got a couple of blows on SSB Goku, and mind you this is a Goku that's pretty serious and being told not to hold back. He's at least more serious than he was against 17.

So yeah, probably not SSB Level but probably not too far off it. He'll eclipse it in the tournament.

Sadly I think it's more to do with bad writing and bad choreography.

Goddamn, many of the Youtubers I sub to who never usually cover DBS content have made vids on the episode last night.

Gohan fanboys coming out of the woodwork now.
