You can ruin a joke just as easily as ruining something serious.
Hit will have an epic transformation that turns both him and the sky green. U7 is amazed since Hit is now basically a weird-looking Namekian! Indeed, as it turns out, Hit is actually a U6 Assassin Nakemian (TM), an ancient, long-lost line of U6 Namekians that is known for their use of time-bending techniques and long life. Hit puts up a good fight against Jiren, but in the end loses since transformed Namekians never win.

This is why we need the rest of the cast to become useful. That way we have tons of character to be used as "nah man, this guy is STRONG. You NEED Goku." fodder instead of always Vegeta.
The other characters already put in their time. For this arc it's looking like Hit will fill that role though.

they didn't want Vegeta fans to have a heart attack when he loses to Frieza once again.
