Dragon Quest 11 Announced! [PS4/3DS (simultaneous), NX (tentative)]

The Wii U can't run UE4 games right? so I'm guessing if NX was not much powerful than the Wii u it will probably get the 3ds port?

Interesting to see if NX version is like 3DS or PS4. I guess we won't know until hw is revealed, but if it is an hybrid console (home/portable) i guess it will only have one screen so it would be PS4 version probably.

Also wonder if PS4 version is released outside of japan, 3DS maybe will too since the plot will be the same so the translation could be used for both games.

PS4 is more likely to be localised. The PS4 is doing really well in the west and having a(nother) JRPG exclusive will keep momentum flowing. 3DS version could be a limited release, depending on when the localised version releases. As for NX... no idea.

I guess Horii wouldn't have said DQXI on NX, if it wasn't already pretty much locked ... the same like he said DQ could be multiplatform, which it as of now is, and like he said it will be on consoles.

I'm sure the SQEX knows enough stuff about the NX hardware (or hardwares?), enough for Horii to even come up with that talk.

Certainly a lot of confusion about the NX announcement and what not. But surely that will get settled out over the coming months and such I bet.

Still Im so glad they are releasing it Multiplatform. I know they have talked about going away from that whole "number one console gets Dragon Quest" mentality since DQX, but its nice to really see it happening outside of the MMO. Hopefully it will provide a nice shot in the arm for the PS4 in Japan. But what really excites me is how different each title looks and such. I love how from what we've seen we are basically getting everything we wanted, from the HD at home tv presentation, to the portable gameplay we've enjoyed with some classic 2d throw is as well. Its just such a wonderful surprise.

I just hope they both make it out during the anniversary year. It will be an exciting time for sure.

The stuff they showed in the video looks to be on the same scale as 8, which is fine. I don't want to see something on the scale of Dragon Age 3, though. I have a life to live.

Dragon Age 3 was just big empty maps. I felt it was artificially inflated: A small amount of content spread over a large world. I felt a lot of it was a big load of nothing. Witcher 3 is a big game, but doesn't feel to big to me because the world actually feels believable and has a good amount of content.

DQ8 felt like a far better and more believable open world game to me than DA: I. I would be perfectly happy if DQXI was as big as say DA:I provided there is actually meaningful content and the world is well constructed.

This is if 3DS version will even come to the west. Localization is going to take at leats to 2017 and 3DS will be pretty dead by then in west. Not to mention as the games are so different (PS4 and 3DS) they have to localize both seperately. Obviously I hope both will make it to the west. I want to buy them both!

I would be so bumped if the 3ds version doesn't get localized, like Ni no Kuni....

Holy shit. The 3DS 2D bottom screen footage looked amazing and slays me with nostalgia.
The PS4 open world equally looks fantastic.

I think I'm looking forward to playing the 3DS version the most as it's concept is just incredibly cool and gives me the best of both worlds. Excellent announcement.

We already know that the NX isn't a hybrid, Iwata made that pretty clear before he died. Though you aren't far off-base, as he also alluded towards the NX being more of a platform with both console & handheld variants.

so the first games announced for NX are DQX & DQXI... I'd say its off to a good start.

3DS version looks super neat though. I've wanted thst style done with the 2 screens for the longest time, never thought someone eould actually do it.

PS4 version looks gorgeous obviously.

I don't think they'd throw NX out there if it weren't happening.

Localization anxiety is already starting and the game doesn't even have a Japanese release date yet! Both versions being so different kind of makes it more important that both get localized :(

The word launch could refer to a number of things. Platform launch, title launch, launching at all, etc.

Maybe a 3-month's later port or something, maybe no finaliazed hardware, maybe still negotiating business deals. Who knows.

The name was dropped. Something is happening. Get hype because DQXI is fucking real and it looks great on both platforms.

Hype. NX is totally releasing in 2016. Zelda is totally a launch title (maybe Dragon Quest is too? Would make for a really hype launch)

First impression "Oooo that looks good" second impression "Hey there is a console missing", third impression "OoooOOoohhhh fuuuuuuccck Off screen is gunna be AHMAZING"

Wow, both versions look fantastic!

The PS4 version is visually stunning of course, but I think it's really cool how the two screens on the 3DS have two different aesthetics. Really appeals to the 90s big JRPG fan in me.

It's settled, I'm buying both.

It interesting how much the reveal and the reactions show how conservative the DQ crowd is. They release a wonderful vid of a fully detailled fantasy world, with a super artstyle and all, something i've dreamed of for a japanese rpg. And people are like "i'll play the 3ds version it's so great, and i'll play the 2D version on it".

And i think that school of thought must be super dominant for Japanese fans to.

Also the guy saying the size of the outside map in the PS4 demo making him claustrophobic, my god :p You got people refusing to play anything not looking like a 16 bit rpg on a side and others feeling sick when they have less than 50 miles of free 3D space in front of them.. I can see why that industry struggles!

Anyway they all look good. I don't really like the "hybrid" 2D/3D thingy. if it's an interesting mode of visualization, it's also the kind of 'let's not choose, let's not evolve" strategy i don't like from Japan. It's time to move on...

Also NX hmmmm..
So, will it be:
_A super pretty version of the 3ds version (probably not)
_A scale down version of the PS4 version ?
_The same as the PS4 version ?

Looks great from the little animated gifs in the op, but no trailer? That stinks. And 2016? Maybe for Japan, really don't see that happening for the NA.

Feels good to be spot on about this. Just like Ninokuni. Really happy, just wish my vita peeps gotta version, but I think mostly, GAF's salt levels will be minimum here.

Congratulations everyone!! DQ finally coming home to consoles! It's looks marvelous!

The Wii U does not run UE4 because UE4 has not been ported to the platform. Power is not the issue. UE4 runs on phones. I don't think it would be crazy to expect Nintendo to want UE4 to run on the NX, and for them to make it happen.

Thing is, you're talking about Dragon Quest. It's not a JRPG. It THE JRPG. Dragon Quest games are known for sticking to its classic formula. So I'm not seeing why you're shocked so many people (including myself) are more excited for the 3DS version of the PS4 version. It's nostalgia, yes, but it's Dragon Quest. Nostalgia like half of game now.

NX version confirmation is hype, can't wait to see what that looks like. 3DS version looks intriguing, love the dual screen concept.

Gematsu says that the NX version of DQXI is just "under consideration", not in development
http://gematsu.com/2015/07/dragon-quest-xi-announced-ps4-3ds

I think it's like crinale said, simply: it's basically confirmed (thus, the mention in the press event), just they can't state way too much outside of that since the console hasn't even been officially announced yet. So, a bit of PR saying it's "under consideration"

The length of the game has nothing to do with how exhausting it is to explore a map in DA3.

I think it's all personal preference. I had no problem with exploring the world in Inquisition, but the incessant random battles in Dragon Quest VIII felt like a death by a thousand cuts, and turned traversal into a chore.
