About

Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake is a stunning reimagination of the first two legendary adventures in The Erdrick Trilogy, brought together in one package.

Dragon Quest I Story

Thanks to the heroic efforts of the legendary Erdrick, the Lord of the Underworld was defeated and peace returned to the land of Alefgard. Yet this peace was not to last, as the diabolical Dragonlord has risen and unleashed hordes of monsters on the realm once more. Now, descendant of Erdrick, it is your destiny to defeat this new evil and rescue the world from its plight!

Dragon Quest II Story

Many years have passed since Alefgard was saved at the hero's hand, earning him the same title as his storied forebear. The descendants of this Erdrick and his scions founded three kingdoms that thrived in peacetime. Yet, darkness stirs once more and a sudden invasion of malicious monsters plunges the world into shadow again. All that stands between the forces of evil and their wicked ambitions is a band of young princes and princesses of Erdrick's lineage. The time has come for them to venture forth and honor their ancestor's legacy!

On a related note, they removed Denuvo from the PC version of DQ III a few days ago.

So are they adding anything in DQ I or is it just II?

Played the entire series near enough in 2020.
Previews say that they've added content to I & II. One dude said that they've greatly expanded Erdrick's Dungeon in I and that II will most likely have a new party member added. It is speculated that it will most likely be the sister of the prince of Cannock (which would make sense storywise).

I enjoyed DQIII HD with its gorgeous graphics and OST, but I'm not really a fan of the vocation system.

I've never played I/II, are they more streamlined/traditional?

October? Damn, I thought this was gonna be earlier than that.
Me, too. But I guess that's them trying to bridge the time until they've got something to show off for Dragon Quest XII...

Edit: I genuinely thought that this year was gonna be the year when we finally get a trailer and maybe a release date for DQ12 because I thought that their silence was coupled with the Switch 2 in some way. Now I just think that they most likely had/have problems in development, and they're genuinely using the DQ I & II and III remakes to have at least something.

Heard that switch 2 card can be inserted and used on switch one. Wonder they will make use of it and store switch one and switch two versions on the same carf

Looking forward to this, but also sad to see that it's so far out. Also sad to see that the Switch 2 version is a game key card.

I will grab the Switch 1 physical most likely. I don't know if I will play the games but I love DQ 😅.

Edit; I don't get Nintendo only making 64GB cards available for Switch 2. It seems counterproductive.

I imagine publishers are telling Nintendo they greatly prefer the key card over even the smaller rom sizes.
I am not certain, it can be a detriment especially to the smaller publishers since a lot of physical collectors won't touch that stuff. And 64GB is unnecessary expense for a lot of games.

And now we know that key-card is completely different tech since it can be impacted by magnets.

The Switch 2 version is shipping on a game-key card, for those wondering
Seriously...so it somehow fit on the first Switch cartridge, but we won't record it on the Switch 2 cartridge on principle? Then I'll have to limit myself to the PS5 version only...

so finally i can finish DQ2, haven't finish it since fan translation of SNES remake, the thing is, i like DQ, but the BGM are mades me sleepy ("+_+)
i only finish the first in GBC, never finish other DQ, only goes so far up to 2/3 parts usually.

Hm, I prefer physical (on card) games so unless the SW2 version is significantly better I'll go with the other version

Yeah, what about DQ XII? Really curious about that. I hope it's not in Development Hell. With that being said i still have to play DQ 8 on the 3DS.

Most likely there will be a digital upgrade available (for a few bucks, maybe?). I hope so, because I vastly prefer just buying the full game on a Switch 1 cart and using it to play the Switch 2 version with the digital upgrade.

Well, I would definitely say it's in some kind of development hell. They announced the game in 2021. The last mainline game, Dragon Quest XI, was released in 2017. It is not too out there to say that they most likely were working on DQ12 in some form since 2018 or so.

We haven't even seen concept art of DQ12. All of this tells me that development is not progressing as smoothly as they wanted.

Didn't they say they wanted to shake up things with DQ XII? This plan could turn out problematic. We will see at the end how much they have altered the gameplay. Dragon Quest is famous for not changing the formula too much.

Yeah, they talked about shaking things up. I think they referred to the story being "darker" and that they wanted to touch the combat system (which I am pretty worried about, tbh).

By "Darker" I dont think DQ will ever be "M" rated gory game.

I'm curious if Akira Toriyama already did artwork for DQXII before passing away and even if thats the case who's going to be new artist for the next DQ game.

I think they mean the player will now be giving puff puffs - not just receiving.

Let's see how censored this one will be...

Just get the game on PC. They removed Denuvo after a few months for DQ3 and there's a classic experience restoration mod on Game Banana:

Download key card you say, I say no thankyou.
Ironically, if you get the Switch 1 version of the game (which can be played on Switch 2), you get the full game on the card.

It's both hilarious and sad at the same time.

Oh lord, that's ridiculous. It's almost like they're intentionally trying to sell less Switch 2 games. This is mental!

The type of carts used by Switch 2 are quite expensive, especially for large sizes. Nintendo is hoping that, by restricting publishers to using the 64GB cart, demand will be pushed up and manufacturing costs will go down.

But this won't happen if third parties just choose key cards instead....

They are pretty much creating their own competition. Switch 1 was already going to be the main competitor to Switch 2, and this is pushing even more in favor of sticking to Switch 1.

The key card is likely decently cheaper than even the small rom sizes. You still get the retail distribution angle, which is likely all publishers care about.
Indeed. So I can see Nintendo's plan backfiring and companies just adopting key cards instead.
