super unpopular opinion, but I think Normal difficulty is great. Enemies that should be pushovers (wolves and golbins should not 1 shot you in my opinion) are pushovers, but ive already ran into hairy situations. Im really enjoying the flow on normal, if I ever do NG+ ill consider hard mode, but I couldnt play the game like some of you are describing it. But hey, like I said, unpopular opinion :p
Nah you are completely right.

I was getting rekt by Bandit squads on the way to the Witchwood on normal right outside the first encampment.
I assumed I wasn't ready to go that direction yet as I was getting essentially one-shot by blink strike.

But isn't the witchwood through the bandits? This is kind of a really unwelcoming start to the game :(

You can run through them, just stick to the left and eventually you will come to an opening that will be the woods.

Or just go to Gran Soren with Mercedes and the Hydra's head instead. You can stock up in the city and then come back here and take the bandits on head on easily with better equipment.

Unpopular opinion? I think normal is great so far as well.

Think I might've screwed up on my pawn. Primary is healing with gathering items 2nd. Yet, I have offensive magic as primary skills with buffs 2nd.
Like inclinations? You can change that with potions in the encampment and the chair talk in inns.

naw, totally agreed.

I recently platinum'd Bloodborne and Old Hunters so I enjoy a good challenge but hard mode in DD just isn't fun imo. The game was built around normal and it shows

Is sorcerer supposed to be so weak at first? I feel like I barely do any damage to enemies and the game got much harder.
Everyone feels weak at first. Finding that first ogre always makes me wonder if my weapon is broken... even though there's no durability in the game.

Try different elements, every enemy has particular vulnerabilities. Almost everything you find in the beginning is weak to fire, but hitting a cyclops or lizard with lightning will stun them, for example.

I would suggest you pick all the side-quests you see except the Notice Board Escort Quests. Unless you want to explore the area the NPC is going towards, maybe. But yeah fuck those. Pointless in terms of reward.

Her inclination is probably fucked. Make sure she isn't Guardian or Medicant or Nexus or something.

Yup same thing happened to me.

...Then a bit later I went in the quarry, thinking oh, I got this.... NOPE

yeah I just sat down with her and told her to be more aggressive when she asked, said her inclination changed so hopefully that's good enough.

ur dragon? I think its dead or being killed right now due to people importing their save files.

False I checked the leaderboards and the first one was killed by a range of lvl 40-100 players.

UR also has a server-side damage cap for every encounter, it really doesn't matter if you can do a million damage per hit, the server is gonna discard everything over the cap anyway, this is how they stopped hackers on consoles.
Imported save has zero impact on UR.

Oh that's good news. It would suck if the generations got all fucked up because of hackers.

Actually had a funny encounter with that one earlier. One of my pawns is level 4(from a friend who just started today), and I'm fighting the Ogre. She climbs up its face, and while its flailing its arms about, it falls off the cliff with my friend's pawn. I gave no fucks when she bled out down there, her sacrifice was well worth it. Amazing how even a level 4 pawn can be handy.

Oh shit, I didn't know pawns can climb too. Mine don't do shit.

Just concentrate on the main qest for now and come back to the well and witchwoods ;) These battles will still be hard, but doable. Be careful though: The witchwood quest will fail after you did your first quest in the game's main city Grand Soren. Just play until you get there and get back to these quests after that would be my advise.

the well and witchwood should be the first 2 quests you should do, it was designed that way, makes no sense to backtrack

just do it

I hope they patch this audio shit, because it's completely ruining the game for me. Not talking about the volume issue either. Every few steps in a dungeon area or town where my character hits a hard surface (doesn't happen in most outdoor areas), the footstep noise ends up doing a loud crackling or popping sound.
In the meantime it might be worth a shot to force your audio to stereo from Windows' control panel. This might make the overall game volume really low, but that's a lesser evil and easily rectified.

Is anyone getting comments or anything when their friends use their pawns? I know a few people have used mine and I haven't gotten anything.

I had no trouble in the well (just died once). But man those fucking bandits right outside the witchwood. Good thing i managed to kill them in the fifth try or so.

That's correct.

Alright, I'm on it.

I'm level 7, so I kind of want to get to the main town to switch my vocation.

You might have to sleep at the inn.

They're trolling you. Once you get to
Gran Soren
you get the
Eternal Ferrystone
from the storage at the inn, which lets you
warp back to Cassardis
...

Made it through the witchwoods :) thanks y'all. I can't help feeling a bit weird at times regarding my character lol, i created that kid girl as kind of a callback to adventure books I read as a kid/teen, but some of the armor that's available seems reeeeally, um, inappropriate heh. Oh well, I'll manage.

there's a fork on the road to witchwood, the right road leads to a some sort of stronghold

i unintentionally pulled ~15 bandits

a whole not of nope

Is there a list of what quests are missible and when they need to be done before progressing in the story? I remember when the game first came out I missed the Witch quest near the start and screwed myself out of the quests that it has later on in the game.

Updated my save tool: http://www.tzarsectus.com/tools/DDsavetool.rar

This fixes the issue with console saves not being able to go online in the PC version.

If you've already got a save with this problem, run the save through the new savetool with this command:
Code:
DDAsavetool -reset DDDA.sav

Any savefile converted with this new version should not get this issue at all.

The problem was related to online pawn data which wasn't compatible with the PC version. Thanks to the Reizo Ryuu for the idea.

Thank you so much for this tool and the fix!

I was able to import my existing 360 save and everything is exactly where I left off with my level 200 characters and all my stuff and port crystals on the map right where I had them. Plus now the online mode works. So happy I don't have to do all the quests over. I had 100% achievements on the 360 version, and the achievements didn't transfer, but I don't care about those.

This is a huuuuuge time saver. Back to Bitterblack isle in 60 fps!

Only thing I don't like with where I left off is the
post-game sky
, which is kinda ugly, but that's on the game. I started a new game on a separate save last night just to see the environments running at 60 fps and it feels so great to play it running well.

Thanks again.

hard mode basically requires you to know beforehand what skills/buffs you should need, so it's not for first timer

First time playing this game, the acronyms fly over our heads.

don't worry about it, BBI is an expansion area for end game, like... after beating the game, no need to go there or overwhelm yourself with it

Bitter black isle. Create your main pawn, go to cassardis, sleep until night, go on the creek, speak with the npc, see the cutscene, go to bbi, speak to the npc again and change vocation :)

Can only one person summon a pawn at a time? If yes, say I go offline while having a summoned pawn in my party, could someone else then summon that pawn or are they locked to me? If they are locked to me and I never logged on again, are they eventually released automatically?

If my pawn is summoned, do I receive the xp or whatever they received while playing with someone else as it is obtained or only after the player summoning the pawn logs or releases the pawn?

May my pawn be summoned while I'm playing and using it?

I check my history each time I log in or log out, and it says my main pawn has been summoned 0 times. Really curious about all this, and I hope someone summons/has summoned my pawn. :(

Dude, I'm level 13 and bandits on the way to the woods are killing me.

grab the fighter guy and let your pawns nuke them

honestly you don't even have to fight them but it's really possible to kill them

it's really just that one fighter bandit too that's being a dick

It is pretty fucking hard, took me an hour to get to Witch Wood on Hard without the sword and board bandits one-shotting me.

It's bugged at the moment.

First time playing this game, the acronyms fly over our heads.

For you and other newcomers:

Sleep at the inn until night. Go to the pier in Cassardis (starting town). You'll see a lady that you can talk to who will take you to the expansion area. When you get there, you can talk to her and change your vocations. She'll take you back and forth between the two areas without any cast.

Be warned, it's hard to come by weapons for certain vocations outside the basic three in the early part.

Make sure to get new pawns too.

Fuck Rook.

Rooks useful for inside the woods though, since he knows the path.

If anyone not too high level & still needs a fighter-pawn on his/her friendlist,
mine's at Level 14 (Mitigator/Scather) right now and, as far as at this point possible for me, enchanted and skilled up.
His face is not perfect, but good enough (after who knows how long trying around).

On a random note it's really nice how well this game runs on my just below-minimum PC
while looking nice. =)

Maybe too much macho, that one has a widelegged stance (+ maybe combined with the leg type that looks like it has a wider stance too)?
Afterall the feminin stance makes a guys hips sway... femininly. o_ô

That was it. Apparently for Japan, Macho is walking like a sumo wrestler.
Had to edit my character. Left it at the middle ground
