Dragon's Dogma |OT| For the night is dark and full of terrors

Same. I found a skeleton key when I got back out though.

Also, I was just going through the
Water God Altar
and I was try'n to escort Mercedes with me. She fell in the water and it said "mission failed". Is she dead and gone forever? Or will her quest be posted back on the board? =(

Same thing happened to me with Mercedes except I was going through the Ancient Quarry and she got molested by an Ogre :( pretty sure she's gone forever. Her quest wasn't back on the board.

Finally had some free time tonight so I started over and played for a few hours. For some reason I started focusing on a clicking noise you hear while running which was slowly driving me insane. Other than that I'm loving it, exploration feels great and I haven't found many games that actually make the darkness something to be feared. It does seem almost too dark at times though in wide open areas with a clear sky.

I just used a skeleton key to break out. Didn't pay shit! :p

Skeleton keys are more important than 5k. I ran into a prisoners dungeon that had a bunch of cells with chests in them. I had just enough keys to open them all, and had the items to make another key.

Went to jail for accidently attacking a villager in Gran Soren. Had to pay 5k bribe.

There's a chest in the capital that always respawns with a skeleton key in it, so I'd rather save the 5k and just go pick up my replacement!

Besides, at this point in the game I have a shit ton of materials and over 500k in gold. I can make a bunch more skeleton keys if I need to.

if you haven't saved yet just reload, or reload to the last checkpoint save which is usually the start of the escort mission. I had to reload a couple of times when
selene played happy with bandits

I think I just read somewhere that they come back to life after 7 game days. So I guess 7 stays at an Inn and/or 7 day/night cycles.

More than anything else I wish the game ran at a steady 30fps.

Hopefully they can get 60 FPS on all of the games for the next generation of consoles. The fact that we're barely scraping by with 30 FPS for most games on consoles (and the fact that 30 is acceptable) in this day and age is pretty terribad.

This game is amazing. Went to see my parents and brother for my birthday last week and he had picked me up a copy for 360. I'm also incredibly pleased to report that outside of the first section I haven't had any noticeable tearing at all (though I did DL a patch that may have addressed it?).

I have had so many amazing emergent game-play moments it's crazy. I love games that really heavily rely on systems and world simulation. The enemy AI is just so fun to play against, and I love the fact that there are no invisible walls.

For example, the first Cyclops I ever fought was kicking my ass for about 5-10 minutes when one of my hired pawns climbs on its back. My other hired Ranger shot it in the eye with an arrow (after learning the creature strategy I assume) and the thing rampages and knocks out my main Mage pawn that had been healing us from the river. I rush into the river to revive her and the Cyclops comes at me in a blind rage and topples right over the waterfall, killing both it and my hired pawn riding it.

Soooooooooo good. I'm now at about Level 25 and still loving it.

Not going to happen with the constant push for better and better graphics.

As my game chugs at 15fps in Gran Soren, I think I'll settle for 30fps for this game. :/

Blegh, did they undership the game in Europe or something. Almost all stores I went to didn't have copies. They expect stock within 5 - 10 days.

It seems pretty useful, though. At this point in the game 5k is like chump change.

Racing sims like GT and Forza swear by that 60fps rule, and I think developers should do the same for RPGs next gen. It's terrible to fight a group of enemies at 15fps, kinda ruins the immersion.

Ugh, just came back from Witchwood. So tense and thick, loved it :) Going down the well next.

One question though. Why are the ingame screenshots so crappy looking? Each file is less than 100kb and look terrible. Any way to increase their size so they look better?

DLC :)

But seriously, it's disappointing capturing an awesome screenshot...only to see it turn out like a jaggy mess.

On a note about assassin - the sword/shield skills are crappy in my opinion. I've put some points into them, even upgraded several to their higher tier levels and tried them out in actual combat. Felt slow in comparison to daggers and not nearly as effective.

I was just not digging being basically a tank as an assassin. Didn't make much sense to me (swapped out the shield for the bow, but still hated sword skills).

The dagger abilities are hot - like the throat slit one. Really love that maneuver as it's so smooth. Someone attacks, you activate the ability and then your character grabs them, swings around onto their shoulders and then slits their throat. The animation on that is fabulous.

I think I'm going to stick with assassin as I'm not really interested in the other classes. I'll probably change my pawn back from warrior to fighter once he's maxed out warrior as he is more useful to me as a dedicated tank than a DPS'r.

Sir, you are wrong! Assassin is pro. Those sword moves are BOSS. Intimate Strike hits an enemy like a half dozen times in a single smooth stroke without exposing yourself, while you can load up with a charge move and gouge, which just wrecks giant creatures. I use bows as secondary. The + to stats at night is so good too. I almost always travel at night now.

I've maxed out Strider, Assassin and now working on Mystic Archer. Ugh. Despite all the hype, THAT is the class I find boring / terrible.

Anyone wants to add me on XBL, I am GrandHarrier, my pawn is a high 30s Fighter that will protect the shit out of you.

Wanna hear a good joke? Waste your time helping me! LOL!
Started my game tonight, took me about two hours to get to the first encampment because I spent so long in the character customization. Spent a lot of time customizing my pawn as well, although I'm worried it won't get hired by other players.

Not much to say about the game because I haven't really done much yet, but the Arisen trial fight was hilarious for me. I was casting a fire spell when a goblin ran a me and pushed me off a cliff. Pretty great first death, I hope there are more to come.

I really dig the title screen music and the customization screen music.

Magick Archer is a overrated newb class which I came to realize after reaching Level 25 with it. Every single attack is the same, and the lock-on feature makes it so easy that everytime you creep into a dense area and can not find enemies, you will just aim at everything and if you have a lock you shoot it. The light arrow is a skill that severely nerves the night terror, and has you shooting it every 5 seconds when traversing the landscape. Recommended class for people who are new to these kind of games.

I switched over to Ranger and I am having a tremendous amount of fun, not to mention that the longbow destroys those bandits because every successful hit knocks them down. There is also this joy kind of feeling when you actually have to WORK for hitting an enemy.

Magick Archer is pretty boring until you get Backfire and can start bursting into flame any time and for any reason you damn well please.

The dagger skills in general are a lot more engaging than the actual bow skills, if you're looking to spice things up a bit with the class.

I don't know where I got it, but I found the sword "Gryphic Victory" and I went to sell it and noticed it sells for 115,000G and I instantly went "WHAT!" and I ran as fast as I could back to town and turned my pawn into a warrior and equipped her with it.

Her Atk went from like 180 to 527.

RIDONKULOUS.

Yeah Magic Archer is kind of dull. I was thinking I'd like it more than Archer but it's been the opposite. Archer skills do crazy damage and I'm not having any trouble aiming.

I absolutely love the game. The sense of exploration and adventure is unrivaled in my opinion. There are so many secrets to find and surprise encounters that really get your heart racing.

I have a few gripes (how strict sidequest timing is, the various bandit groups spread over the land are harder than any other enemy I've encountered) but overall it is even better than I had hoped.

What I am getting at is that the class actually forces you to use the skills and features that are designed for it. I know that there are a lot of people who will say that you do not have to use the Light Arrow skill but.. you will use it because the option is there, thus it removes the tension of having to keep a lantern with you the entire time and be careful not to drench it with water.

My biggest gripe with the character is the lock-on. I can not express this enough. No matter what you do, each arrow is a direct hit. I find it weird from Capcom's side of things. They did not introduce a lock-on feature with melee based classes which is something that is needed a lot more, but they did with an archer class? I am baffled.

Two handed warrior pawns are freaking tanks in this game. I have seen my pawn warrior juggle enemies in the air and take more than half their health away with 1 single blow.

Yeah? I wasn't happy with Warriors. I swear my pawn couldn't hit shit with those looooong animations. Take those Warrior Augments back to Fighter, however, and you have a murder machine. I've seen it combo / stunlock mobs while having twice as many skills. Maybe it's because I like the taunt and hate wasting an offensive slot for it on Warriors.

All the magic-capable classes have lock-on, it's by no means limited to the Magick Archer. The majority of the classes in the game actually have some selection of skills that are lock-on capable.

After the first couple of hours of adjusting I've never really pined for a universal lock-on system, honestly. The game's got some soft aim-assist for regular attacks anyhow, and it's quite generous with where you're allowed to hit enemies to qualify for popping them in their weak point.

I think with games like these, stores in Europe get a few copies to see how it goes. I know for a fact that here in Holland we get around 10 to 20 copies per store depending on how dense the surrounding population is. If everything is sold by now it would mean that Capcom should have a sleeper hit on its hands.

also dumb noob question can i use consumables healing items etc on my pawns? cause i can only seem to select myself?

I found out that giving a ton of healing items is a waste. This is the suggestion I have for everyone:

Only give 1 healing item per pawn. They will use it when necessary but they will never use the second one.

If you want to heal them because the Mage spell does not heal them fully any longer, just give them another healing item. Giving them a healing item will make them use it from the get-go. I do not know why this is but they never seem to heal themselves if you give them more then 1 healing item in their inventory.

how does crafting work. I can combine things in the inventory but how/where do I get to craft weapons and other items? Do I need to have certain skills?

Correct, it's 3 skills per weapon / shield. Warriors "make up for it" by dealing alot of damage. I just find Fighters better since you don't have to waste a sword slot on taunt / springboard, put those in the shield slot.

it's more lock on targeting, as opposed to homing spells, and for fireballs and such it's fairly needed. You can still miss anyway if it's a fast enemy moving laterally.

Ah, I see. Well so far I am perfectly fine with my Ranger. Having a lot more fun in comparison with my Magick Archer.

My friend refuses to buy this game because of Capcom's terrible DLC practices in the past. While I don't necessarily blame his rationale, I really feel like this is not something that applies to this game. What could I tell him to convince him to get it, apart from "dude it's fucking awesome and you're an idiot for not buying it?"

I have a confession... I had extra spacebucks and bought both DLC. If this practice continues, I am to blame.

The 10 DLC quests are worthless. It's like, go to the marker and pick up an object, QUEST COMPLETED. The hairstyles one at least comes with in armor that makes your pawn stand out and look not-ugly as sin, for the first 30+ levels.

I need to see some video oof someone using assassin with sword skills cause I'm still pretty skeptical. I was really not happy with the sword at all =\

Also, I already destroy everything I come across (416 atk with daggers and my pawn is damn close to 600 atk). I've been going on exploration ventures to try and find something difficult to fight.

I admit I was tempted to get the hair DLCs, I don't give a shit about everything else but oh god hair is my weakness in rpgs, swapping new hair through mods in Dragon age was one of my favorite things to do, fuck this gen.

And my home internet is down so I can't share my pawn :(

No sharing of any pawn or porn, feelsbadman.jpg

Dumb big-bosomed woman wanted me to escort her from Cassardis to the Encampment JUST before nightfall. She kept stopping for every little bloody thing. Jeez that was annoying. Does she do that for everyone?
