Dragon's Dogma |OT| For the night is dark and full of terrors

For the chatter you could tell them to talk less with the chair, it's just that the question is confusing and it's a yes and no answer as far as I know, answering no will make them adjust, I don't remember what the actual question was but I remember selecting the wrong one and they wouldn't shut up, even though I didn't mind it.

The biggest flaw of this game is that you can't jump and mid jump hop onto a ladder.

Would you consider switching to ranger if you were a magic archer? I feel like it's time for a change (I'm level 30)
Can rangers double jump and evade?

Yes and yes. Those talents carry over. Their ten arrow shot absolutely destroys shit.

Pawn Recommendation

Rei - petite brunette warrior

She uses a two-handed hammer (I gave it to her). I don't recall who made her but she is all go, no quit.

She climbs monsters.

She picks up explosive barrels and throws them at bad guys.

She's a scrapper and completely entertaining to have in a group.

Damn, was hoping the escort missions weren't a permanent fail...

Couple questions fellow adventurers of the night:

1) Where are you guy's seeing your time played stats displayed?
2) If I were to start a new game, not new game plus, would that completely erase my old toon? There's only one save slot right? or is that just per character?

It's basically "Should I talk when I have something worth saying?" If you say yes their speech rate goes up, which might conflict with a lot of our understandings about what's worth saying. A lot of them are weird dichotomies. "Should I go for loot or heal you?" Uh, kill dudes.

How does the fire forging work? You just get the drake to breathe fire on you and it's randomly applied to a piece of equipment?

What does dragonforging your armor and weapons do?

It's the next level up after three stars, but you don't get to see a comparison, so I don't know how much it changes.

It might be in the History section of the start menu.
Yes, but just move the save to cloud or a flash drive.

Eh, I was traveling and suddenly I failed. No idea where Mercedes went. That said I know wait for the stupid AI to catch up and stop running into rocks when escorting them. At least with your pawns they teleport to you if they get too stupud.

Ugh, made a bad mistake switching to Mystic Knight. I'm not liking this AT ALL. Will definitely be changing to Assassin like I originally planned when I get a chance.

Yeah, I did the same but with Magic Archer and hated the change so I went back. Not a big fan of the magic in the game over the physical.

You guys are missing out with Mystic Knight I wish I knew how to take video of my game, The only issue is switching between staff and main weapon.

Harpies? No problem I kill every single one in the area in three hits using Great cannon, shooting Dark enchanted fireballs at everything within a 100 foot radius, anything comes near me I parry their attack with a fire counter that deflects them with damage and fires a giant one hit kill fireball back at them. (great for taking out archers from afar) Even if I have a staff equipped I can turn it into a sword using Abysmall anguish and fuck up shit close range with my staff enchanted with darkness and lightining.

Don't know what you're on about. Mystic knight is epic as all he'll. Almost maxed it. Changed from a maxed strider. Loving both.

Just defeated the Drake in the forest at level 36. I went in pretty much unprepared since I was actually just going to kill a cyclops, but when he suddenly stood before me again I just tried my luck. The fight was somewhat long, but not too difficult.
My main pawn, a sorcerer, and a hired pawn, a mage, did most of the work I think. They were just spamming these ridiculous spells non-stop; the Drake didn't know what's happened to him. Meteors raining from the sky, huge ice spikes growing out of the ground. Poor guy. :p

Definitely cool stuff. Now I just hope there's still more challenging stuff coming.

I love being a Mystic Knight too. It's great fun to stack the Great Cannon skill, then fire off a ton of fire magic bolts on the enemy or running into a group of enemies, dropping the Ruinous Sigil and seeing them being tossed in the air.

Sounds great. I think I'll give him a go again at around level 40. It is going to feel quite good after the roasting he gave me last night at level 27. I am level 30 now, so not too far to go.

Two people used my pawn while I was asleep and I got 20k. The reason why I'm posting this is because they both gave me Ferrystones. Talk about generous! O:

You can stack it?

Omg.

I stacked 3 great cannons on top of eachother, while my pawns were firing bolts nearest me, with my dark enchanted fire mace I killed an ogre in 3 seconds.

Lucky. I'm just going to buy 10 ferrystones the next time I see that merchant and be done with it. I'm getting a bit sick of all that backtracking.

The Mystic Knight is kind of OP when you learn how to use him. Stacked Great Cannons + Ruinous Sigil + Lightning enchantment brings down a Cyclops in under a minute. I don't fear them anymore.

I haven't given Magic Archer a try yet, but Ranger is a lot of fun IMO. They make quick work of bandits w/ the knockback of the arrows, plus you can pretty much solo any cyclops in under a minute or two.

Oh man this game is so awesome.. I got it yesterday and was up until 5 AM playing. I started out as a strider, and once I hit level 18 or 19, switched over to assassin. My main pawn was a mage, but is a warrior now, and he is stomping errythang. I haven't done much story wise, but the side quests are so awesome, the escort missions aren't that bad, and I loathe escort missions.

Does the sorcerer have any redeeming features? I've just unlocked the Exequos (spell) and that seems pretty awesome - just need to stack up on the stamina-roids. Also got necromancy and petrification ... I'm still finding that the sorcerer is like the mage ... not enough out-right killing power particularly against those idiot bandits. Mystic Knight might be my next change by the sounds of it.

I think I will never play a Mage/Sorcerer myself. I very much appreciate it when my pawn just stands there for >10 seconds casting that one meteor spell, but I would never want to do that myself. I'm happy with my Ranger vocation. Maybe I'll try Assassin at some point, though.

I'm glad to see many of us are loving this game, especially with how uncertain things were before release. DD turned out to be a real gem. Amazingly fun and addicting.

I got stuck in the far north with the damn Direwolves coming at me from all directions. I was expecting the Wights to come after me, too. I love the Direwolves, though. I completely fuck them up as a Ranger, using the Ten-Fold Arrow boosted with Holy Affinity.

Edit: Meant holy affinity, not fire.

Sorcerer breaks the game. You'll get bored because they're so strong.

I actually just started traveling around the North a bit last night and am loving it. As others have stated, Direwolves are indeed much more cunning and ferocious than plain old wolves. Very fun to fight.

On the subject of wolves, I am looking forward to seeing how much smarter Hellhounds are. They breathe fire and have 9,000 HP, as opposed to the 2,500 HP of Direwolves. Besides on the Tainted Mountain, they are mostly post-game enemies, though. According to the guide anyway.

On top of that, I just did the upgraded shop quest
golden idol
, which was kind of fun(nice change of pace).

I don't wish to generalise and over-simplify here (though I'm pretty much going to), but if we take the Western approach to 'adding social elements to single-player games' to be characterised by tacking on a co-op mode to the campaign or adding a dozen co-op-only stages in a main menu select, and we take the Japanese approach to that same thing as that peculiar, brief and somewhat anonymous shared interaction between players as characterised by this game and Demon's Souls - - I like the latter more.

This game's obviously not Demon's/Dark Souls at all, for all its similarities in setting, UI, etc. But damn if, after I finally dismiss a Pawn or have my own Pawn return to me, the game doesn't give me that same cool little community tingle which the Souls games did after teaming up on a boss with a silent and ghostly stranger.

I am really loving this game immensely. Very addicting so far. Each time I head back to the inn half-dead I want to go head right back out for more danger and adventure. I could do without my pawns blathering about stuff all the time, but I am getting used to it.

The title screen song started as something I tried to skip past as soon as possible from annoyance...but is now stuck in my head and something I love. Kinda like "indestructible".

Yeah, the pawn system is great.

I still think coop would've been cool, but the system they implemented is far better than I expected. Also the pawns themselves are pretty helpful, I don't get some of the criticisms lobbed in their direction in some of the reviews. Just gotta fiddle with their tendencies.

Yea, it's definitely a prime example of a game where you get out what you put into it. Clearly some(most really) of the reviewers didn't spend much time delving into the game. Sounds like a lot just tried to "beat" the story, and I can totally see how they would be unimpressed if that's all they did.

Have any of you guys done the quest, Nameless Terrors? I'm trying to complete this now and I cannot for the life of me find the rest of them.

I know the general locations as per the following:

1. Near the Ancient Quarry

2. By Gran Soren's northern bridge

3. By the Mountain Wayside

4. At the Waycastle encampment area

5. By Cassardis

I've found the ones at #1 and #2, but where are the others? #3 is supposed be near the
mountain cottage
but I've run up and down that place the whole night and the only thing I found different was one mage dude mixed in with the harpies (he may have been there before though). Also, is #4 referring to the encampment outside of Cassardis or is that somewhere else? If it's not there, then where exactly?

Lastly, where the fuck are they outside of Cassardis? I ran all over the god damn place and found nothing but the standard goblins and wolves. This has been all at night too.
