I won't lie, I'm excited for this. The singles have been great, Hold On is a killer pop song.
It really is. That hook and main melody is great.

I didn't like Drake initially, and his fans were even worse.
By the time Take Care came out, he won me over. Despite the "soft" music, Drake is just being honest. In this day and age with the bullshit glamour and fake tough guys we lose sight of what it is to see a celebrity as a normal human being. Drake is authentic, and I must say that is honestly hard to find.
Say what you want, but a lot of rappers tried to emulate his crossover blueprint and have failed miserably. He is better than Wayne, and is arguably the best rapper at this moment in time overall.
He is the top guy, just accept it. And don't gimme that Kendrick nonsense......

How is he being "honest" and "authentic"?
He tries his hardest to project a tough gang banger image. From his videos with tough dudes surrounding him and him being hard to his bullshit "started from the bottom". If growing up in one of the most luxurious neighborhoods in Toronto - Forest Hill - is the bottom, and then becoming a child star is a hard life; then the rest of us must be in some hell hole and have the shittiest lives from the darkest depths.
Fake as fuck.
When has he tried to be a gang banger? I know there's like one line about catching a body, but aside from that I don't get this at all. And "tough looking dudes" surrounding him in his videos doesn't really count. I don't see how a dude putting out songs like Hold On, Marvin's Room or Best I Ever Had is trying to be tough. He's pretty upfront about being a soft, sensitive dude.

Yeah, I think a lot of the hate comes from people who don't actually listen to his music. Anecdotally, I have a friend who doesn't even like rap, but who makes jokes about drake being soft because the Internet/reddit does.
Hip hop fans can be terrible, they cry when people from the outside try to box the entire genre into cliche gangsta rap but when someone like Drake comes along they call him soft and compare his street cred to 2pac and laugh
As a hip hop head myself I just SMH and keep it moving

I didn't really have anything to say about it," Drake says of the verse, which has so far inspired responses from A$AP Rocky, Joey Bada$$, former Los Angeles Lakers coach Phil Jackson and too many others to count. "It just sounded like an ambitious thought to me. That's all it was. I know good and well that Kendrick's not murdering me, at all, in any platform. So when that day presents itself, I guess we can revisit the topic.

Of all the people called out by name, Drake is arguably the one who is already functioning at a higher level than Kdot. Whether or not you dig his style, I think it's hard to deny. Dude is a hit machine. He doesn't belong in the same catagory as people like Meek Mill, J. Cole or Jay Electronica (lol). Continuing to do what he already does is all the response he needs.I thought this was his response...
Cole and Kendrick far beyond Drake at this point though.
