7.0

The Good: Lengthy single-player campaign with multiple endings; interesting story, with plenty of twists and turns; mostly excellent sound, with great voice acting and music; some unique and challenging boss battles.
The Bad: Terrible camera angle requires constant adjustment; combat quickly gets stale; dated graphics, extremely short draw distance, and occasionally choppy frame rate detract from the action; air-to-air battles are boring and tedious .

While Drakengard didn't do anything specifically new, it managed to offer an interesting blend of different action and role-playing elements, as well as a crazy storyline. Drakengard 2 sticks closely to that formula, although the story has been toned back a bit. Still, there are plenty of interesting plot twists and great evil characters to battle here. The game offers two difficulty levels, but the normal level is pretty easy. There are some fun and challenging boss battles, but some of the later missions get fairly lengthy, making them more a matter of endurance than skill. The problem is that when you die, you have to start the entire mission over again, since there are no checkpoints. This is extremely frustrating when you die right at the end of a 20-minute mission and have to repeat everything you just did. When you do finish the game, you'll unlock a mode that lets you start a new game with your characters and items from the previous save. There are three different endings to the game, and they change based on however many times you've played through the game. Add it all up, and Drakengard 2 is an appealing package, despite its flaws.

This is like the stereotype of the game or detritus that you see in a circuit city sale 4 years from now, wrapped new for $8.99 next to a sponge-bob skateboard title.

Shit, I was hoping they would improve the camera and draw distance. I just canceled my pre-order because I was thinking of getting it at Best Buy with my coupon, but now I'm not sure I want it at all.

I just tried the OPM demo about 20 minutes ago, control felt really spotty and sluggish and before I knew it I had died sometime deep into the mission. Never cared to reload after the game kicked me immediately back to the OPM menu.

It's at least better than all of the Dynasty Warriors games.

Not a bad game, but it isn't for everyone. I snagged it months ago for $12 and had fun, but there are problems. The soundtrack is fantastic, however.

it's more like the game nobody buys until it's $8.99 then everyone raves about how awesome it is.

Pretty much exactly in line with what I was expecting. I grabbed the original for $20, and it was great at that price. I fully expect to do the same with this sequel, and I'm betting it will be equally as fulfilling at the budget level.

I predict it'll be $20-ish USD by October/November, maybe even earlier.

The first drakengard had a cool story, but the actual game was pretty awful imo. This should be an anime or something, because it doesn't sound like fixed it for round 2.
