The last racing game I've played serioulsy was Gran Turismo 3... I'm not that much into racing games, but driveclub is great so far (lvl 11)... i don't know why all the hate about it... 'cause isn't Horizon 2?

Most of the hate is from people who haven't played it. Seen very people who were actually disappointed.

This post fills me with joy. I know it's a weird comparison but I have been hoping DC would give me an old school Ridge Racer vibe once I got my hands on it. Not so much in terms of gameplay, though the closed circuit format and focus on basic racing is part of it. I want a game that blows me away with killer graphics, cool original music, tight racing and that feeling of fighting for every corner.

Ever since the PS4 marketing ramped up last fall and started evoking the PS1 days and the history of the brand, I think a lot of us have been seeking some touchstones that bring back what made that era so great. Indie games go a long way toward giving us those quirky weird experiences that helped define the PS1. But the sheer jump in wow factor back at that time was huge. Killzone and Second Son looked great but weren't all that fun. TLOU looks even better but it's a recycled experience.

I want DC to give me that feeling back. Maybe it's nostalgia (OK I know a lot of it is nostalgia), but I really want a game to fill this void.

Yup. I find myself turning the HUD on for time trials but that's about it.

Oh and for those ridiculous Tour events where you can barely see the track due to low sunlight shining RIGHT INTO YOUR CORNEAS. I need a map for those.

It's a good soundtrack but I can't stand hearing "How fast do you wanna go" one more time. The fact it's 6/27 songs on that game it's the most annoying as well.

I'm more than half way through the game around 150 stars and I just refuse to play it now until servers come up. I want to see these challenges and whatnot pop up and I want to compare my race times with the other people on my friends list.

This might sound silly, but the rumble in this game is really immersive. It seems like there are specific points in the track along with how your car is reacting at any give time that give off a certain rumble. It results in some really cool feeling stuff. When you first go downhill on a straight it feels so fast and like you could go out of control at any moment, in a good way. It makes the cars feel really powerful and weighty, not something I've felt in a racing game before.

I have seen and heard almost nobody being online in this game so far including on twitter. When you try to connect in-game, there's no pause even suggesting a timeout. It acts as if there is no server even up.

Something sounds odd here, for a game basically designed to be always online due to most of the interface hinging on a live connection. It's strange they would so grossly underestimate server capacity required for a design like that.

The TV I'm playing Driveclub on refuses to scale the game properly on any setting, letterboxing the actual game, but it works fine for every other PS4 game I try. Bought it for a friend. Is this a documented problem?

Yeah you need to calibrate your display settings on the PS4 itself, even though other games work fine.

They're saying it isn't just the amount of players, but rather what they're doing when they're on.

It sounds to me like whilst it can happily cope with many players online, it can't cope with all those people sending challenges, performing Face Offs, uploading bits and bobs left right and centre.

Too many operations per second rather than simply sustaining connections, I guess.

Don't carry too much speed into the corner, handbrake as you turn and then really gentle with the accelerator adjusting as you go. I find it really difficult sometimes, then sometimes it all works beautifully, it's just finding the right speed, accelerator bite (so you don't lose your backend, or lose too much speed) and degree of steering.

Like I said, I'm shit at them, but that's what I've done when it's worked :)

It's not fake at all! It works really great, and with my TV at least there's no perceptible lag. Hands on the screen move in practically perfect sync with mine - it's almost like having an actual wheel.

I suggest going into the corners in 3rd gear (of course depends on the corner too) and then slamming the hand brake hard on the entrance. While drifting you can also downshift to increase torque.
Well, it's all practice but hitting the top scores is tough but fun.

So I broke down a got a physical copy. Figured if I hated it could always trade it in. Turns out this game is pretty damn fun. I'm still in Rookie cup or whatever, but so far I'm really enjoying the way driving feels. Sense of speed is dead on. Love how the car shakes when you start to hit top speed and all the other little details. Sound track is great, definitely has a more upbeat vibe compared to GT. I'm pretty casual when it comes to racing games, an enthusiast might want more options like vehicle tuning and assists toggling, but for people who just want a fun racing game, which *looks* realistic, and makes you feel like an expert driver, then Driveclub is spot on.

Shame the online features are pretty much dead, it would an extra element to the game to finish it off. On the bright side of online not working, at least it lets you play and it doesn't knock you out of a game if your client times out on connecting or gets disconnected.

As the online is still not working I tried something else:

25 lap race at the Norway circuit with x60 time - was pretty much exactly 2 whole ingame days! :D

The race was...quite epic!

This game have depth man, I've been on automatic all the time, shame on me.

True, but Motorstorm games had it, so I guess they decided to carry it on here. I liked playing that way in Motorstorm, but here it works far, far better than it ever did in Motorstorm. I actually love playing this game with motion controls, they work better than I ever thought they would.
