My score for this game is 3.5/10. The good bits are:
- real life cars (although they're all locked so can't actually use any of them. How retro is that)
- tracks are fairly fun
- nice graphics here and there eg sunsets
- races can be fun
The bad bits are:
- fucking collision penalties
- fucking corner penalties
- you start off being able to play with only one car, and then after a day all u still have is hatchbacks
- the graphics on daytime non-sunset tracks are actually really average, and arguably below average. No one is admitting this but I'm really underwhelmed at times. This is not a game to be used to show off your ps4.
- it's unacceptable that weather isn't available. At this rate I'm going to complete the game and sell it by the time the weather is added in. The rainy tracks on YouTube are the reason I was so impressed, but that's not been delivered
- lack of split screen. No bullshit, no excuses: if u can't get ur racing game to have splitscreen, YOU HAVE FUCKING FAILED. Don't believe the bullshit you hear: motorstorm sequels had splitscreen and it was fine. The only reason they don't add it in is because they put it at the bottom of their priority list. Well when I sell this game on as it has no replay value with my friends, don't get pissed off evolution
- motortorm was more next gen. It had deformable tracks, which was actually really cool. There is nothing about this game which couldn't have been done on the PS3
- motorstorm was more fun
- really soulless. Doesn't seem to have any personality at all
- people weren't kidding about corridors. As soon as u leave the track by a metre, a countdown starts before it automatically puts u back. Invisible walls exist and are bizarrely close to the track. Feels like a nineties game.
- no customisation
- nothing 'original' or new. What does this game bring to the table? It's like a ps1 racing game without the splitscreen options, so objectively worse.
The ultimate fact is this: if this was not an exclusive title, nobody would give a flying fuck about this game. There will be no Driveclub 2 because this game is a top down failure: mechanically and graphically it is serviceable, but it brings nothing new to the table, is soulless as fuck, has some terrible design choices, has no splitscreen, and is actually not what we were promised. Once the free version comes out on ps4, sales will flatline.
