Don't even have time for GTA lol

Wow! Some of the images looks close to real. Cant wait for Weather. Evo really did great job in details and its really sad to see they have bad luck in Online. Hopefully they fix that soon and launch this game again with PS+.

The atmospherics in this tour event were great, you really felt the low dark clouds and track lighting changed dramatically as the sun emerged and hid behind cloud cover.

Can you adjust the time of day while in photo mode? Cause that would be fantastic and useful for setting up some shots.

Also handy to have a full featured replay mode to get just the right setup - ideally with FF/REW controls like Forza.

Sadly no
There is no option to change time of day or anything weather related... So you can just wait and hope that you get a perfect lighting for that one special shot you want to take :(

REALLY like the shot of the train, the close up of the AMG and a few of the environment shots.

Am I the only one that thinks this game doesn't photograph as well as I hoped though?

A lot of the closeups of the cars show some rough and blurry material/textures and poly-counts. The LOD on some cars looks great while others are really rough. The close up of the BMW is extremely blurry material/detail wise. The environment also ruins a ton of the shots. We need some good DOF in here.

The lighting is excellent though, and looks great on chrome and aluminum.

I feel like it's easier to take great shots of FH2 than DC, yeah.

The closeups have actually impressed me from a modeling standpoint for the most part. I have a shot looking in through the metal mesh on the rear of the P1 and they bothered to model the power wires hooking up to the fan(?) units. Considering that level of detail would never be visible in normal gameplay, I think that's pretty good. Texture wise, the models have been good from what I've looked at. Decals for paint jobs on the other hand don't fare well at all. They're obviously low resolution and the less plain/geometric ones look like ass on any real closeup without copious motion blur to hide that fact.

Speaking of blur, manual focus is pretty much a must for closeups as the game will rarely autofocus correctly. You can get pretty good depth of field, but it requires using the zoom function. Without zoom even the lowest f-stops will have a pretty huge focus range. So getting the right DOF is a matter of balancing physical camera distance, zoom levels, and f-stops. From there you can tweak the bokeh type, apply the filters, etc.

Actually you can but only in showroom. Go to garage > choose the car you wanna modify > press change time of day and then press photo mode. Very limited area though.

Some of the screenshots are absolutely amazing !

DriveClub is a sick looking game, i can't make a difference if it's a real or not in some of the pictures.

Downloaded the patch yesterday, messed with photo mode a bit but i'm just not as good as some here so i wont post my pictures.

You need to play around with the focal point if you're doing up close shots I've found.

I'm no photographer so its all Greek to me, but when doing some up close shots I was getting blurred things like you say, but then fiddled with focus and it became crystal clear.

Please do! The game is beautiful and is worth showing off.

I'm not a photographer at all, I barely understand all this and only slightly in my research for virtual cameras for University but trial and error. Most of my screenshots are following the same pattern (low f-stop, right tilt with black border and close depth of field) but I'm liking what I'm producing and will be using them as backgrounds for my desktop after I get bored of my Skyrim background. (Probably NSFW link here)

Has there ever been reflections in a driving game this good?

Exhibit A. Lights reflected into the body.

That is lovely stuff. I don't think any racing game has gone quite this far overall yet.

.

Nope, most racing games don't include self reflecting. Typically only environmental/surrounding cars.

If the poly-count was higher on that car in the first shot, you could pass it off as real.

Yeah, car reflections are real-time and aren't just standard cube maps, so it should reflect everything. Some of the cars could definitely use the tessellation tech from GT6 for sure.

On one hand, it's a crying shame you can't export supersampled pictures and move the camera more freely, like in that leaked video where you could move quite far from the car (into the clouds!). On the other hand, it's utterly amazing that these screens are essentially direct-feed captures with almost-real-time rendering improvements (i.e. less jaggies, better DoF/blur), lack of improved AF and car tesselation aside. I'm very, very impressed as is already, but if they can deliver some further refinements to the Photo Mode, then it'll be orgasmic.

Mirrors wont reflect the car they're on though. Was slightly disappointed in that.

You can see the mother f'in environment in the middle of the left tail light. Jebus

Looking amazing, and leaving me a little sad. Evo have put the rendering tech in place for amazing IQ - roll on next gen to make this realtime.
