Driveclub PS Plus Edition Delayed by Server Issues

Well, I'm just using the numbers that Sony mentioned on their site. So... welp!
Wikipedia and Eurogamer ain't Sony, so please try again.

If I remember correctly, Evo already feared that they're gonna get closed after MS:A (interview with an Evo dev). So now, after DC.... hm, don't know, man.
Context, man. Closure of Bizarre Creation and other studios specialized in racers made them fear Sony wouldn't give them a chance after MS:A's launch failure. But Sony gave them another chance, so what happens now will depend on game sales and Sony's strategy (EvoS being its last incarnation of a first party studio dedicated to arcade racers).

My take is that this game will be a slow burner.

You're kidding? Slow burner? This game is finished, lol. I hope that doesn't spell impending closure for Evo but come on. Who will be checking for this when/if it gets off the ground? The only possible save I see is a freemium version and that obviously ain't happening since they've already charged others.

Yup, put in for my refund today (hopefully goes through). Despite the online issues the game is rather lackluster... won't even bother with ps+ edition. Unfortunate, i had high hopes for this game.

Is this Sony's servers here or what?

What kind of server issue could possibly take this long to rectify? Are they waiting on a newegg order to upgrade their servers or something? wtf

Employees shouldn't lose their jobs but I think someone like Rushy probably should be on the chopping block. The launch, management of time for a timely release and communication after the issues have all been horrible.

Say you were an exec at EA or Acti and you saw this guy's resume and under products you've successfully launched you saw DC, would you want this guy leading your team? Sorry but I sure wouldn't.

Stay classy saying someone should lose their job.

Glad to see you were at their studios and saw what Rushy does.

So, I have just forgotten about this game. Come November I won't even care about this issue.

Guess we can never call for any politicians to lose their job ever again then when the country, state, county, city, etc. they represent is in bad shape since none of us ever see what they do in their offices.

Screw elections altogether we should all be kumbaya and everyone keeps their job forever and ever regardless of performance.

Come on people. The guy's job is to ensure the game releases on time, on budget, and without major issues. When that doesn't happen it's HIS fault, it doesn't really matter who within the company screwed up specifically because he oversaw all of those people.

Keeping a guy who can't be a good leader for a studio is what gets these studios into MAJOR trouble. Look at Crytek. Only difference at Crytek is that the guy owns the company and can only be fired by himself.

I'd much MUCH rather Sony fire the guy most responsible for the game than to blame it on the studio as a whole and close it down completely. Many more people will lose their job then.

Does it have global leaderboards?

It does, and I have seen rankings higher than 295,000 so there are definitely a healthy number of people playing (... and that only counts those who have successfully recorded a time on that specific track!)

The last few days I haven't had any trouble signing into my club, using club unlocks and contributing fame. There are definitely still services that aren't available but it's clear progress is being made. Hopefully a second wave of PR around the weather update will bring back those who were scared off at launch, because I'm thoroughly enjoying the game.

No way. What is DriveClub's competition on the PS4? The Crew?

If Evo can get things working soon they'll be fine, and the PS+ version will be a second chance.

That's not really how the market works. Launch window is the time when the vast majority of sales happen. That, and fire sales down the line. Demand for most every game wanes the further it gets from its initial launch period and once hype dies down. The only exceptions are "evergreen" titles, but there's no reason to believe DC is one. When games launch broken, they can't magically turn back time and reset all the launch hype and demand by dropping a late demo and saying "hey guys, the game actually works now".

Demand doesn't stay constant forever.

My thesis here can be boiled down to "the thirst is real" when it comes to driving games on the PS4. And when DC is ready, everybody with PS+ who is even a little bit curious can jump into the game and try it out - and upgrade to the full version from there if they want to.

It seems like a scenario (PS+ version with upgrade-to-full and serious lack of driving/racing games) that provides DC an extra out that other games might not have.

They screwed the pooch hard on this one. Unbelievable. Word of mouth even on retail cant be too good (im talking on the street, not GAF). I wonder if the PS+ version (if and when its finally available) will help to somewhat ameliorate what I'm assuming are abysmal sales numbers? Traditional retail has a 2-3 week window to do the bulk of new release sales. Im curious if digital download extends that out a bit.

After playing MS:A (yes, I bought it... cheap) and looking at its reviews and sales.. I wouldn't call it "absolutely incredible".

Well, let me go back to my original post: When talking about "business".... Evo is just a big waste of money, just like Studio Liverpool was (and damn, I really love WipEout!).

Played DriveClub? Or just shitting on it, assuming it is a bad game?

I wonder why so many do this. If someone talks shit about DriveClub, they usually have 10+ recent posts about the very same topic.

It really gets under peoples' skin. And I absolutely do not comprehend why. Look at TEW. Great game, obviously flawed, has severe technical issues on PS4.. yet everyone seems to overlook those for the bigger picture and enjoy it for what it is. Why can't we paint DriveClub with the same brush? At least they made a game that looks amazing and runs flawlessly, controls well, and shows what the hardware is capable of.

Yet you keep posting about how they need to shutter the studio? Heh. They wish they had more developers like Evolution.

I guess because it's a 'realistic' racing game, it has no soul.

Yes, and I found it to be quite an average game at best. For all the whining about reviewers treating the game unfairly, I think they were spot on. It's an average game that has an overall average score. Not terrible. Not great. Just average. And the sad part of all of this is that it was reviewed with the online components functioning. Without that functionality, what was once an average game is now bordering on terrible. Especially given the delay and the development team's own stated vision for the game.

I think only two reviews jumped out as being unfair/uneven and badly researched. The Giantbomb one and the Gamespot one, I think.

Jeff Gerstman had hot flashes that week I think.

The general score for this game seems fair, such as Edge's 7. I was mostly talking about there being a whole slew of 'regulars' on this forum that will pop in multiple times in any Drive Club thread to make a generic statement concerning Sony's fuck up or the games' lack of any redeeming worth.

Did the game do nothing for you though? I'd like to know more about your experience with it. Did you race in Scotland? Did you use the cockpit-camera?

Id be shocked if an internal studio survived an average to poor selling delayed by almost a year averagely reviewed clusterfuck.

Well Atleast here in a few days I'll be able to play DriveClub off a friends library with SharePlay. Been dying to play just don't have the money yet to buy the full version.

TEW issues doesn't stop people from being able to access a portion of the game. The game is great, but the issues it has right now makes it very hard to recommend, no matter how good it is. Also this is a topic about PS+ version, not the full game, so I'm pretty sure asking everyone if they "Played Driveclub" isn't gonna go that great since most are in here still waiting for the PS+ version.

Really... a racing game is much more than pretty graphics and cockpit cameras. Thankfully the game plays well in the Single Player events, but still everyone knows it looks great, but that isn't what makes any racing game good at all..

I kinda wish I could rent this game, cause I really want to play it, but if it's still having online problems I don't want to spend $60 bucks.
There aren't any RedBoxes near me that have this game. They only have Destiny.

Question for everyone here: If they released an offline version of the PS+ Driveclub demo with the same content 1 Area: 10 Cars but no online functionality, would you guys be okay with that?

Honestly that's the route I think they should go for and have seen many others bring it up. I know it defeats of the purpose of this being a selling point for PS+, but it gets the game out there and would maybe be less of a hassle and then what they are dealing with now.

People would just complain they didn't get what they didn't pay for.

DriveClub's lack of online didn't stop me from putting in 15 hours and having fun with it. I get what you're saying, but the 'problem' isn't show-stopping. It's an embarassing clusterfuck, to be sure. But there is still a game to be found here.

Pretty graphics is one thing, I was more talking about how it established a sense of place and time. This is a different matter entirely, nothing to do with polycount but everything with the game world feeling 'alive'. That's why I gave Outrun as an example, it's a very relaxing game to play. Of course this wouldn't be effective or enough if the game played like shit.

The cockpit camera is extremely immersive and playable, you know, it adds to the fun of this being a game where you pretend to drive luxury cars.

Cockpit is fun everyonce in a while, I tend to like it when just going for a fun cruise and actually for Drift events. I tend to use the bumper cam more cause the sense of speed and the road effects are just unmatched. It's a little too low to the ground, but it's still close to perfect for me. I do agree that alot of the places look neat when driving around with the 3rd person view though to check everything out.
