DS Appreciation Thread

So I have been playin my import Jump Superstars all day and I convinced 3 people to order the DS at work from Wal Mart..... It really is becoming a great system to own:

I currently own:

SM64
Meteos
Advance Wars DS
Jump Super Stars (Import)
Kirby
Wario Ware: Touched
Madden 06
Ridge Racer
Yoshi Touch & Go
SW: Episode 3

Planning on purchasing:

Sonic DS
Castlevania
Mario Kart Online
Metroid Hunters Online
New Mario Bros
Mario & Luigi

Also rumored/confirmed:

Zelda DS
Metroid Dread

Seriously, I was almost to the point of trading my DS in or selling it 5 months ago. I never would have imagined the system to blossom with this incredible lineup coming out. Though I am not into it also, Nintendogs is doing alright from what I can tell. A girl was playing it at Carl's Jr today with her BF and she was yelling at her dog and everyone turned around to look at what she was doing and she and her BF just started laughing.

The DS has passed my expectations and it is becoming an incredible system to own.

I envy Japanese gamers. The DS lineup there is possibly the best first-year lineup a game system (much less a portable) has ever seen.

This is what you can get for the DS in Japan after 9 months of release.

Jump Super Stars
Brain Training DS
Softer Brain Training
Super Mario 64 DS
Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow
Kirby: Canvas Curse
Harvest Moon: Sprite Station
Full Metal Alchemist: Dual Sympathy
Band Bros. DS
Meteos
Wario Ware Touched!
Lost in Blue
Nintendogs
Famicon Wars DS
Ganbare Goemon
Ouendan
Lunar Gensis (the story is supposed to be good so it is probably worth buying cheap)
Naruto 3
Naruto RPG 2

Certainly not all triple A games, but all are at least pretty good and most were received and reviewed well.

On the horizon they have...

Super Mario Bros. DS
Super Mario Kart DS Online
Dynasty Warriors Online
Tomagotchi DS
Gyakuten Saiban
Animcal Crossing Online
Sangokushi DS
Feel the Magic 2
Deep Labyrinth
Super Princess Peach
Sonic Rush
Slime Mori Mori Dragon Quest 2
Bleach
Baten Kaitos DS
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicals Online
Final Fantasy 3jp
Mario and Luigi 2
Metroid Prime Pinball
Metroid Dread
Zelda DS
World of Mana
Xenosaga DS
Pokemon Pearl and Diamond
Scrath Viewtiful Joe!
Azure Dreams
Metroid Prime: Hunters Online

Most of these games are coming to North Ameria however the Japanese will get several of them first to add to the already amazing Japanese lineup.

I knew my life was missing something! Thank you for this ingenious and creative thread idea!

However, I will humor you by listing my current and desired games:

-Yoshi Touch and Go
-Kirby and whatever the subtitle is
-Meteos
-Some other game not immediately coming to mind.

I've been holding out on Mario DS for awhile... is it worth getting? I've never played the M64.

In my opinion, Super Mario 64 DS is definately worth getting, and this is for the minigames only. There are lots of them and they are very polished, addictive and fun. Just forget the main game, it hasn't aged too well, and the controls are beyond crap. But the minigames, they ROCK.

My friend imported Band Bros and it has been great fun in single cart multi play.

There are way to many games I want... more than any other system in a long time. Shame Im not going to have enough time to play them all.

I'm going to Walmart to get a DS today with Super Mario 64 DS. Looking forward to getting these games:

Yoshi's Touch and Go (already owned this one)
Puyo Pop Fever
Meteos
Kirby Canvas Curse
Goemon DS (Import)
Electroplankton (Import)
Advance Wars: Dual Strike
Castlevania

I'm just on a 2D/retro like kick recently and why not get the DS.

Yea, it's worth getting. The people who haven't played the original are the ones who complain the least about the new controls.

My DS has gotten the most playtime between my Cube and PC, even with recently played games like F-Zero GX, Pikmin 2, and Guild Wars at my disposal.

Currently own:
Super Mario 64 DS
Mr. Driller: Drill Spirits
Yoshi Touch & Go (played this a lot due to fierce score competition at another board)
Daigassou Band Bros (played for nearly two months, not even multiplayer either)
Meteos
Kirby Canvas Curse

Want to get Nintendogs, AW: DS, Ouendan, and Jump Superstars soon.

Plan to possibly buy (if they turn out good):
Lost in Blue, Castlevania, Sonic Rush, New Super Mario Bros, Mario & Luigi, Metroid Prime Hunters, Viewtiful Joe DS, Mario Kart DS, Animal Crossing DS, Tony Hawk DS, Snowboard Kids, Black & White Creatures, Age of Empires, Shogun Empires, and several others.

Own:
Kirby
Meteos
Splinter Cell (shut up I like it!)

Definitely Purchasing:
Advance Wars
Lost in Blue
Mario Kart
Animal Crossing
Sonic Rush
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney
Trauma Center: Under the Knife
Mario & Luigi 2
Viewtiful Joe
New SMB

And maybe online Metroid Prime Hunters... I'm going to be so broke. In a way it's lucky that the DS was the only system I could take to college.

I only have Kirby right now and Castlevania should be here any day. The rest of the US lineup is still pretty bad, but I will pick up Meteos and possibly Advance Wars down the line.

The JP lineup is pretty damn good, though.

The DS finally got games. I wasn't liking the system before this summer. Now it's a good system and it's worth my money for the games that are finally starting to come out.
I only own Advance War DS so far but i played through quite alot of other DS games.
The games are there? - i'm there.

I currently have:

Super Mario 64 DS
Warioware Touched!
Feel the Magic
Yoshi Touch and Go
Puyo Pop Fever
Kirby Canvas Curse

And during that time, Also bought:

DK King of Swing
Warioware Twisted!

on GBA.

I really enjoy playing the DS on the bus on the way to University. Plan to get Advance Wars DS [Both the original and the sequel severely addicted me for a while], and Pac 'n' Roll by the end of the week :)

I love my black DS. I was hoping to pick up a white DS, but all the stores were backordered for weeks. The black one is just as good.

Personally, Ouendan and Jump! Superstars are the only reasons why I even bothered buying the system. Everything else doesn't appeal to me. But what a couple of games those are.

own:

Ouendan - awesome
Jump Super Stars - ok
Zoo Keeper - awesome
Meteos - super awesome
Kirby Canvas - awesome
Advance Wars - super awesome
Super Mario 64 - bleh
Puyo Pop Fever - ok

It's definitely jumped up for me in the last couple months. I don't like the unit as much as the games (wish it looked better and had greater functionality) but it's definitely not the crapfest it was at launch. Looking forward to many games as well.

So far I've only been playing the hell out of Meteos. I'm debating whether I should pick up Nintendogs or Resident Evil 4(I've got a GCN arriving Monday, hopefully =P).

Weeeee, gotta join in here. The DS is well on its way to being my favorite gaming system ever.

Own:
Advance Wars
Band Brothers
Kirby Canvas Curse
Meteos
Mr. Driller
Nanostray
Nintendogs
Ouendan
Pac n' Roll
Pac Pix
Ridge Racer
Super Mario 64
Wario Ware Touched
Yoshi's Touch and Go

Want before the end of the year:
Lunar: Dragon Song
Trace Memory
Lost in Blue
Castlevania
Trauma Center
Phoenix Wright
Viewtiful Joe
Mario Kart
Mario and Luigi 2
Sonic Rush
Animal Crossing

Not to mention about three or four others I'm interested in, and all the games I know of for next year...

I just own Advance Wars DS. I bought the system when the Mario 64 deal was going on but I can't stand 3D on the system and I find platformers extremely boring anymore so I sold it. The greatest thing about the DS is having a separate slot for GBA games (and backlighting). Having the choice of two different IS strategy games is awesome.

Advance Wars DS makes excellent use of the two screens.

For the rest of the year I'm looking at Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow and Rebelstar Tactical Command (GBA).

I'll probably get a DS w/ Mario Kart and grab Animal Crossing soon after that. I just need to set aside some money.

DS purchase for me wasn't planned for this year and I'm having to cut back on my spending again. Maybe I'll go back to eating instant noodles for a week and see how much I can save.

I could do the list thing, I have 8 games, but I won't i just wanna say, love my DS since I never had a GBA and now have about 5 GBA games as well.

Also, Give mr driller Drill spirits a chance. I got it around launch (euro version) and its very good, there is quite a lot of game there and its very fun. just started playing it again recently after relegating it to the backlog very quickly.

Also, a new mario is coming fuck yeah.

I own:
Mario 64 DS
Wario Ware Touched
Meteos
Kirby: Canvas Curse.

WILL purchase 2005:
Advance Wars: Dual Strike (couldn't find it today. >_<)
Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow
Ultimate Card Games
Viewtiful Joe Double Trouble
Mario Kart DS
Sonic Rush
Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time
Ultimate Brain Games

MIGHT purchase 2005:
Some version of Nintendogs
Lunar: Dragon Song (not looking good right now, though)
Pac N' Roll (I was really excited, but the negative reviews have kind of killed my interest. Maybe I'll borrow it from a friend or something and check it out)
Trace Memory
Lost in Blue
Trauma Center: Under the Knife
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney
Metroid Prime Pinball
Snowboard Kids DS
Mega Man Battle Network 5: Double Team
Bust-A-Move DS
Animal Crossing DS

And I WILL purchase Hunters, now that it's confirmed online.

I'm sure they'll be an active community on GAF exchanging buddy lists when AC DS comes out. Come visit Kimura Town. Get the game :P

i just got Mr Driller for frees! At first, I thought...hmm...mediocre. A bit too random. But then I realised it wasn't so much a puzzle game as sort of a puzzle/action game, drilling, drilling.... And the Dristone mode is absolutely awesome. It's tehse kinds of games that I just love playing. It's totally ironic. Those big epic games that are meant to be involving can often turn me off - just waiting for a save point or appropriate place to quit after a short burst. But a game like Mr Driller, design exactly for that, has me staying up until the wee hours playing the same thing over and over again.

Anyway:

Own:
Mario64 (Japanese) - Awesome
Polarium (Euro) - Eh. Hey, Catfish - have you played this multi yet? It's pretty neat, and different again to the single and puzzle modes. It's like three completely different games!
WarioWare Touched! (Well, I thought it was decent - I hated Warioware, but I loved this. Haven't got twisted yet)
Meteos (Us - awesome)
Kirby (Us - eh. It's good, but not great to me. I spent probably more time on the drawing mini game. now if they used the same graphics for a yoshi or mario...woo!)
Bomberman (euro) - pretty good. I'm just impressed how they finally released a really good package. The design of the single player could really have been something special, like the old amiga arcadey games - puzzles, traps, etc. Well at least a coop. Oh well.
Mr Driller (euro). Maybe it's because it's my newest game, but I'm loving it to bits.

I have Oeundaneandoend or however the Hell, on its way. All due to gaf.

Everytime I go to the store, I eye up Another Code.

Can't wait for Hunters, Mario Kart, Nintendogs, Advance Wars. I probably will wait for NZ release too, just to support the thing. Curious about linking to US versions.

And to round off my old-school 2D infatuation as of late:
GBA games I enjoyed a lot:
Metroid fusion and Zero
Zelda: ALttP + Minish Cap
Yoshi's Island
Mario Kart
Chu Chu Rocket
Pokemon
Advacne Wars 1 + 2

I love my DS.

I have

Super Mario 64 DS - minigames make it worth owning, main game is meh, bad controls
Chokkan Hitofude (Polarium) - great, very refreshing!
Zoo Keeper - super great
Pac Pix - meh
some japanese surgery game - crap
Touch! Made in Wario - ok, but not as good as original GBA
Another Code - brilliant!
Band Brothers - I haven't crossed the language barrier yet
Meteos - great but very hard - or am I missing something
Touch! Kirby - very good!
Electroplankton - fun for about 15 minutes
Pokémon Dash - no. just no.
Advance Wars DS - super great
Ossu! Takae! Ouendan! - BEST. GAME. PERIOD.
Nintendogs: Dach and Friends - great!
Feel the Magic - fun for while, boring after few hours
Yoshi's Touch & Go - very fun

My god, the device has been out like, what, 9 months, and I own so many awesome games. Best handheld system ever, without a doubt.

I want
Castlevania
New Super Mario Bros - was great in E3, what's taking so long??
Animal Crossing DS - to play with my gf
Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time
Super Princess Peach
Mario Kart DS

I say "wow".
