Today in a chat session with Dan, one of the creative minds behind Nitro, there was an official announcement of a release date.

"I guarantee that you will be enjoying your Nintendo DS online within 10-12 days, if everything falls into plan. Due to the fact that Brandon made an estimate too rough, we have decided to use generic tunneling for the initial build. After it is released, we may add the advanced optimization mentioned in the semi-depreciated plan documents. One week is not enough time to test and code our optimization, and releasing a build that will tunnel will give us enough time to shape it's perfection.
Dan, project manager

This comes to great news to many DS fans, and tomorrow I will have an exlcusive interview with Dan himself about Nitro. Stick here for that tomorrow, along with the interview there will also be a review on the reaction from the community. A full report on the Nitro situation will come tomorrow."

okay there need to be more replies to this, and now. Is anybody on the inside that can tell us about this? What exactly do they mean by online?

Who wants to play online anyway. Bunch of idiots and jerks online. Plus online gaming is a fad

Isn't this just a sourceforge project with 0 developers?

Any idiot can register a new sourceforge project.

Speaking of WiFi..

If one person had his DS and was using Pictochat, and 2 people decided to join him, one person 100 feet away, and the other 200 feet away [but withing 100 from person 2], would they all be able to play the game? Or do they all have to be within 100 feet from each other? Could you have 16 people in a long line 100 feet from each other using the same program? Or 4 people in a line playing SM64DS?

Hmm...not pictochat, but if guy number 2 hosted a multiplayer game, and guy 1 and 3 were both close enough to join it, then yeah they should all be able to all play together.

But it breaks down from there. Everyone would have to be 100 feet from the host machine, no matter what direction.

You sure? I thought DS's could "Daisy Chain" up for pictochat.

If they make this thing online.....don't u think they are gonna have to expand the chat rooms a little bit? I mean 64 people isn't a lot.

Wow, really? That'd be cool. (What I meant by saying that was I don't know, so I won't speak about Pictochat).

If you can confirm that you can't daisy chain systems for multiplayer, then I doubt you can with pictochat either. That's just what I read on 1up/IGN or some such site. Then again, I vaguely recall tem reporting that they did it with 3 people, which fits into your theory. Person 1 and person 3 wouldn't have to be in range of each other to compete against each other, necessarily.

Someone should try pictochat/multiplayer with four or more and see if it works.

Not only that, but some people have had DSs connecting over 70 metres, so it's conceivable that 3 people could see each other if they are in that range anyway. It can be tested properly with 3 people, but it needs to be done properly.

No, the Daisy Chaining can't be tested properly with 3 people. Person 2 hosts the game. Person 3 is one hundred feet to his right. Person 1 is one hundred feet to his left. The 3 of them can play together, even though 1 and 3 are out of each other's range, because they're both running through 2.

It takes at least four people to test whether DSs can really be chained together like that for multiplayer/pictochat, b/c that'd be the only way to know if the data was being streamed down the line of people, so to speak.

Edit: this post turned out much more complicated than I intended.... its clear in my head, anyway.

you could test daisy chain with three people. the host doesn't have to be in the middle.

[Host]-------------------------[player2]-------(end host's range)----------------[player3]
