Allright, 10 more minutes, got my game set up and my drinks for the night:

You know, I played the demo and I felt pretty 'meh' about this game, but I decided not to cancel my preoreder.

Game arrived today and I've been playing it for the past 2 and a bit hours and I'm actually glad I didn't cancel as the demo didn't do the game any justice whatsoever.

The game knows it's not the best game out there, it wears it's heart on its sleeve and it's all the best for it. The game is just FUN. There is no seriousness to it anywhere and it's pretty funny too!

So yeah, so far dukes great! :D

odd that they didn't let u install until the release. Guess theres no way for steam to lock files from an cd install.

There is loads to do in this game. So far I've:

I was shrunk and i Drove an RC around an exploding casino.
Bench pressed some weights.
Slowed an elevator from crashing into the bottom floor.
Used an RC monster truck to move a power cylinder.
Destroyed an alien mothership.
Used a bosses testicles as a punch bag.
Played with a vibrator.
Signed 'a penis' is my autobiography book for a small child.
Drew a penis on whiteboard.
Drank a bear and punched some fuckers.

*Sigh* So, as I thought, the demo is NOT a good representation of the final game, at least according to impressions here.

Isn't the demo 11 months old, from PAX 2010?

man I'm totally enjoying this game. Don't buy it for interesting level design - it goes from fine to very average in places and 2011 graphics, but do by it to;


Pick up turds and throw them at people, draw a pair of titties on a kids book, mock the master chief, Leroy Jenkins!

I've played about an hour and a half and the game has made me feel like a f'kn bad ass and laugh a bunch of times. After watching E3 and seeing how samey all the FPS/3rdPS are looking it's actually a breath f fresh air.

You need to be able to enjoy the cruder things in life and not be afraid to enjoy the pop culture references to get the most out if this game imo.

I agree completely. I have been playing for like 45 minutes and there are tons of stuff I laughed out loud with but dont want to spoil for you guys. If you are on the fence, dont doubt. Duke in!

gaf (first) impressions are meaningless =P

most of the time they come from overexcited geeks who can't form a proper objective opinion (ok, don't take that "too" seriously but some users here make me cringe ... I know that objective opinions don't exist)

judging from the first (european) reviews the game is bloody awful to okay

especially the console versions get bashed to hell and back because of the technical issues, like up to 2min loading times, aliasing, weird slow 5fps shadow, frequent and huge fps drops, random clipping issues in some levels etc.

I'm playing on pc and even here the performance isnt perfect. The game isnt pretty either. But the atmosphere is what pulls me in. The ones who are expecting a duke 3D style game are going to be dissapointed. I went in without any expectations and me personally am enjoying myself. Its a breath of fresh air for me.

Yea unfortunately, bad graphics don't bother me at all but technical issues (long loading times, crashes etc.) is something completely different, it's kinda a deal breaker for me

The load times arent so bad for me. 20 - 30 secs tops? Ill keep a timer on next time.

One of the EDF guys called me a douche :( Maybe cause I attached a trip mine to him.....
I just tried to keep him safe!

Im liking the variety the game offers at least on the first few levels, the graphics are dated for sure but they are clean.
The dialogue is pure duke nukem always big on humor, Duke humor ;) I did have little to none expectations about this title so its been a pleasent suprise at least the first few levels.

Enjoying this a lot so far, not very far in, but it's clearly better than the demo would suggest.

Question, and I need to know.

Does the pinball machine give an ego boost? I know theres a 1,000,000 point achievement, but I really really suck at it, can't break 150k lol.

Not an issue on PC.

However, the grain filter and (for those that took offense with the demo) the two weapon limit are still in.
I could be mistaken, but the DoF does seem a little scaled back. That or it just looks different when seeing it on my own system.

I do not find it to be annoying thus far.

The controls for vehicles are 'halo inspired' though (the one vehicle I drove, that is). Clumbsy would be a fitting term for them. I don't think those are different from the demo.

where I am:
ladykiller pt. 2, getting killed by teleporters. :|

oh, and I just drew an extra mark at the casualties. Made sense.

First set of levels are being awesome so far.

You can actually, it makes Duke a lot stronger (health wise)

Oh and RyL, the load times are about 15 secons for each level, 5 - 10 when you die and need to load back.

really? i got like 130 fps before i forced vsync through the driver because the vsync ingame doesn't work...

I never use vsync myself. Could be its my computer though. Its been acting weird today.

Edit:
And with the perfomance not being that great with me I mean that I sometimes have some studders. The framerate itself is decent (dont know how much I get though, I'll boot up fraps tomorrow to check).
