Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them takes place in the same universe – officially branded the Wizarding World – as screenwriter J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series. However, it revolves around a previously tertiary character in Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) and his attempts to recapture a menagerie of legendary animals accidentally let loose in 1926 New York City; several decades prior to Harry’s battle against You-Know-Who.

Yates, when he spoke during the roundtable interviews at the Fantastic Beasts press junket, also formally confirmed that Newt will be returning in the Fantastic Beasts sequel. He teased that Dumbledore and Scamander will even have a handful of scenes together in the film:

“In the second movie Dumbledore comes back. He’s got a couple of good scenes with Newt… We’re discussing who would play Dumbledore, any suggestions would be good. [Laughs]”

Warner Bros. announced plans for a Fantastic Beasts trilogy written by Rowling before the first installment entered production. As mentioned, those plans have now been extended to five movies total.

Who will it be?

I remember him being described with auburn hair in the books.

I guess this proves the rumor about johnny deep and Colin in the first film. Massive spoiler, if only speculation.
Deep is playing Grindewald that Colin is playing in ployjuice form.

That actually a fun idea. Dumbledore was a complete asshole pre-Ariana's death, would be neat to see how it plays out in movies.

I'm a little wary about this series. The trailer doesn't look so hot for now, but I hope that it ends up exceeding my expectations. I just don't want it to multiple be mediocre movies that sort of taint the HP universe. Though I am probably worried because of what the star wards prequels did haha.

It will be cool to see young dumbledore in action for sure.

Bleh. After they cast Depp for
Grindewald
, whoever they cast as Dumbledore is wasted in the role. Depp will be mugging attention with his annoying quirky antics.

Give me that Grindelwald vs Dumbledore!!

They better not fuck this up like they did the voldemort and dumbledore battle.

SPOILERS AHEAD
Speaking of Dumbledore what a fucking bad ass. Dude battled and bested two of the baddest dark wizards of all time.

In the first instance he beat Grindelwald who had the freaking Elder Wand.

Second, he beat voldy with the Elder Wand but managed to do so when he was ancient.

Goddamn, playa. I see you.

I really want a Dumbledore x Grindelwald prequel. They're in a gay relationship and you see them drift apart as Grindelwald becomes evil.

is Idris Elba the only black guy you all know? you want him to be James Bond, Dumbledore, Batman, the Cat in the Hat, etc.

They're going to retcon the Potterverse to hell. No way in 5 films they resist showing Dumbledore fight Grindlewald.

How old was Dumbledore in the 1920s? He's like 150 or something right?

Just re-posting something I posted in the Depp thread.

This movie takes place in the mid 1920s. Dumbledore would be the Hogwarts Transfiguration Teacher at this time, and in his 40s. Voldemort would have only just been born. 20 something years would have passed since Dumbledore and Grindlewald met. Grindlewald should already have the Elder Wand. Tom Riddle would be a baby, if he was even born at all at this point.

Dumbledore's duel with Grindlewald didn't happen until 1945. So unless this series is going to cover 20 years, probably not.

It's 5 movies so they could easily cover 20 years.

I love where this is going.

Hold on, there are actually people who hate on Depp?

This is going to be the new Hobbit

I don't see how they're remotely close. Hobbit was one pre-set story stretched into 3 movies. Fantastic Beasts is based off of nothing, they can do almost anything they want to with it, connect it to Harry Potter as much or as little as they want, and make as many movies as they want as long as people continue to see them. It's not the same situation as The Hobbit at all.

They fucked up so much shit in the movies. The dumbledore v voldemort battle was garbage and so was the battle of hogwarts in the last movie. No one even cared when Harry beat Voledmort.

I want Samuel L. Jackson.

But with giving Depp a place in the movies I'll just until they hit Netflix. Won't watch anything with him and pay for it.
