E3 2011 Sony Conference Thread [Over]

Sony E3 conferences always have a lot of great content but mediocre presentation. Opposite for Microsoft. Just accept it.

I mean leaking the Vita price via press releases right before the announcement? WTF?

If you think Sony's conference was some order of magnitude better than any other conference we've seen so far, yes, you're showing your bias. And that's okay, but let's not be coy about it.

I don't understand how it is not. It didn't make any of them mistakes Microsoft did.

PS3 part was shit. 0 new announcements, only already known games. Since when an E3 conf is a reminder of what I'm going to play during the year ?

NGP was good but only because of the price. Nice move by Sony, Nintendo must be really upset. Line up is decent too.
Sly 4 mother fucker!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sony - B - solid showing, Vita price announcement stole the show, easily.

Microsoft - D. Kinect Kinect Kinect, some multiplatform stuff that has (surprise surprise) Kinect features and Halo. Disappointing to say the least.

My comments on the show:

Uncharted 3 will be GOTY at least quality wise.
R3 looks really solid as well.
IN the conference they have lost too much time on low profile things, like NBA game with the champion who didn't know how to play it with Move, the on rail Kinect-like medieval crap and the online fps made by unknown developer.
Bioshock Infinite with Move and Bioshock NGP exclusive were cool announcements.
Ico/Sotc confirmed for September was nice and the Sly 4 trailer was pretty cool although no gameplay and probably fully CG.
The lack of third parties was disappointing.
Uncharted stole the show on Vita too, SF versus Tekken was great but even on the VIta front they should have shown more things instead of just stating that everyone is working on it.
Of course the huge and most important news was Vita's price.
So overall the show was not particularly great but it delivered where it was important to.

Unless you don't give 2 shits about Sly and was instead hoping to see...idunno...some Last Guardian and StarHawk footage?

Sly 4 was unexpected. It was a pretty big megaton. At least for me. Last Guardian will be at TGS, and StarHawk has already been demoed and will likely be on the show floor. I'm glad they took the time to announce it.

I just wish they showed what Sony Santa Monica and Quantic Dream has been up to. :'(

Geoff has an exclusive with it tomorrow. The trailer was just an announcement.

I feel like Sony really really blew it with making the touch screen feel like a GOOD addition and not just something that ruins games we already love. They should have just left all the touch crap out of Uncharted, but then immediately after brought out a live demo of LBP and shown all kinds of crazy touch screen/camera mini games you could make. Instead of just trying to cram touch into non-touch games.

They're showing the versitility of the system. And really what's to complain, they're optional control methods. Like them use it, don't? stick with the buttons and DUAL analog.

From the specs shown the PSV has the superior control method for most handheld game types. It can go from iOS games to 3D dual analog traditional games. Only edge is the unique dual screen games that are on the DS

Sony I would say gets a C+. Overall conference really wasnt that thrilling.
2nd year in a row of getting a dev to suck on your balls on stage really not needed.

NGP Announcement stuff A+ though

I'm already working on my fiance to let me get it! Its a really good price.
You can get a 43" 3DTV for an extra Benjamin.

Massive amount of Kinect fail.

Idiotville confirmed!
Haha, that doesn't make cutting the rope and closing the door any more compelling. All I'm saying is that the Move stuff is nearing the idiotic proportions of Kinect stuff in this conference. In nearly every demo it was forced.

If MS was a D this was a C.

Again more of the same, shooters and junk all over, but not as bad as MS' show. Street Fighter X Tekken and that Vanillaware game on Vita brightened things up, but it wasn't until the price of the Vita was announced (shots fired!) that I felt anything like a classic E3 "oh shit" moment this year so far.

Save us again, Nintendo!

Vita price announcement was perfect. Sly looked awesome, so did Starhawk.

Some people act like they staight out of looney toons.

SLy and Starhawk looked awesome?

What about them looked awesome?

Uncharted 3 and PSVita bought day 1.

The move stuff is pretty lame to be honest, I kind of wished they didn't spend as much time on it as they did. Would have much preferred Bioshock and whatnot.

No GTA5 announcement at all?

Anyways this blew the Msoft conference out of the water.

I CANNOT FUCKING WAIT FOR NINTENDO TOMORROW.

Goddam I love new hardware.....gets me all HARD :)

I didn't like the show at all. I don't really care for handhelds. I have a PSP but i only bought it for FF crises core. I love FF.

Why didn't sony talk about any improvements to the PSN? New features like cross game chat? The only new thing they announced was cinema now. Which im sure nobody cares about seeing how we already have netflix, hulu and vudu.

Are they not making any improvements to the xmb at all? The thing looks dated. How many changes has microsoft made to their UI since xbox360 launched? Im not saying sony has to compleatly revamp the whole thing like MS, but they could at least spice it up a little. It seems sony doesn't plan on improving anything with the PSN or xmb. And i don't cross game chat is coming to the ps3 at all. PS4 i guess.

I know sony has a shit ton of games coming this year, so im not dissapointed that. But i wanted some fresh new ip's. They have over 20 studios so i don't know why something new wasn't shown at E3.

What did you guys want sony to announce?

And i guess nintendo wins e3 by default since they have a new console.
future PSN enhancements would be really nice. Sony needs to always show they're taking steps to close the gap between PSN and Xbox Live. They MUST. seeing little discussion on that is disappointing.

But if the PSV is any indication, the PS4 will resolve those gaps. I agree that it's time for Sony to look at revamping that XMB.

Also, at least 1 surprise game would have made a whoooole lot of people feel more excited about the PS3. Still, a lot of their games are looking good. Though some (Resistance) are lambs being thrown to the wolves (MW3, BF3, etc.). Sony still holds all the cards when it comes to platformers outside of Ninja Gaiden, so that's good for them...but no surprises.

Keep in mind: for many here, all they need is a new Sony trailer montage and they're ready to give a conference a 10/10. Look at this thread during the montage. smh.

What does everyone think of the TV? I'm intrigued, especially by the ability to play without split screen.
That was actually pretty cool. I'd consider investing $500 in that.

Lots of fanboys usually crowd these threads. I missed the first 30 but what Sony showed was okay. THe Vita was pretty cool but I'm not into handheld all that much. With that I'd give them nothing lower than a C.

And you point at the player you want to choose and press the button. Then you press the button and the player makes the shot with his best move.
But Move support is optional. Cant say that about all those kinect games. If you love your kinect MS aced their show.

My ratings:

Presentation:
Microsoft: A (slick, fast, no awkward pauses, only one tiny technical problem, the controller disconnect)
Sony: C (too much boring talk, heavy breathing, mike issues)

Content:
Microsoft: D- (FPS, FPS, FPS, Kinect, kinect, FPS kinect_) No hardware talk, no price drops.
Sony: C (FPS, FPS, Move, Move, FPS.....but had Sly and that RPG thing at least) No hardware details about Vita.

Megatons:
Microsoft: F (Nothing)
Sony: A- (Vita price)

Overall:
Microsoft: C-
Sony: C+

As long as Nintendo doesnt show 4 FPS with space marines, they're going to win the game content IMO. Well, unless the show is 50% Vitality, 50% wii music 2. Their presentation is usually bad though. the japanese/english always slows things down.

All I personally got out of that conference was September for Ico + SotC, which was kind of already expected since that's when Japan gets them.

Starting to feel pretty detached from gaming's current state.

LOL

they didn't even show any StarHawk or Sly gameplay footage. You anointed a conference based on CG trailers of games you already knew existed.

COME ON, SON.

I miss objectivity. I'm sure it'll come back tomorrow.

an objective poster. Thank God.

Man, I was expecting God of War 4 or FFXIII-2. Oh well. This was better than MS but still not the great. Wowed by the PSVita but not by the games.

This should be on the first page of this thread.

Uncharted = FPS with space marines

Yep, this is making a lot of sense guys. Stupid core games!

This show was all about the Vita and rightfully so because it's new hardware that's being released this year. $249 is an incredible price for what you're getting and I can only wonder how low their margin must be considering the hardware this beast is packing. I'm a bit disappointed there wasn't a showstopping WTF moment at the end, though.

So minus the VITA announcement, how would you rate Sony's conference. As in, as a console gamer, how would you score it? I'm seeing all these B+ for Sony and I can't even fathom where people are pulling those kind of grades from. They showed nothing new. All shooters and even less things than Microsoft did for their console. How could it possible be considered a good showing for ps3 owners?
