E3 2011 Sony Conference Thread [Over]

Only thing I was not happy about is that short poorly cut Resistance 3 demo, dammit Insomniac. It looks really good love the new spinning weapon, but I need to see MORE.

Haha, that doesn't make cutting the rope and closing the door any more compelling. All I'm saying is that the Move stuff is nearing the idiotic proportions of Kinect stuff in this conference. In nearly every demo it was forced.

At least only 2 titles are obvious Move-related softwares. MS seems to have entirely shift their focus onto Kinect. Enjoy the bopping up and down future.

Indeed. But really...they're going to be showing off a new console and games for a new handheld that people like, despite the lack of really good launch games.

It's damn near impossible to fail under these circumstances unless your controller or something flops (ie, Boomerang).

I'm about to go watch it myself, but if Sly Cooper is the big megaton, then I'm not sure how anyone can think Sony did any better than Microsoft this year. Not saying microsoft did well, either.

I kinda like Sly Cooper and all but "holy shit" or "megaton" and "sly cooper"" don't belong in the same sentence.

It was good. They've shown some good games and compared to Microsoft they put less emphasis on their new controller. The NGP still looks sexy and the announced price is as great as expected.

It was lacking in the "spectacular" departement, though. The few new game announcements they made are nice, but Star Trek and Dust aren't games people will put on top of their most wanted lists from now on. The new Sly is great, though.

The same goes for the Vita. Actually, I'm rather disappointed by its showing. The games look great, without any doubt, but I hoped for new game announcements. And in that regard it was severly lacking, sadly. I expected something similar to Nintendo's 3DS premiere (big 3rd party games like MGS, KH, RE) but instead we only got Street Fighter; a cool game, but Capcom releases Street Fighter on any plattform anyway.

I don't know what grade I would give the show. Liked it better than Microsoft for sure, but it wasn't as good as I expected (or hoped for) either.

Edit: Well, maybe my view is kinda screwed compared to most of you other guys, because I always expected the NGP to be 250$/€; conservative hardware design and so on.

Microsoft C

Sony B-, besides Vita which was a great surprise, I really thought they were going to bring it, they didn't...we all knew Uncharted was going to be great.

Unless the new Nintendo console is a total letdown I can't see Nintendo not winning.

So minus the VITA announcement, how would you rate Sony's conference. As in, as a console gamer, how would you score it? I'm seeing all these B+ for Sony and I can't even fathom where people are pulling those kind of grades from. They showed nothing new. All shooters and even less things than Microsoft did for their console. How could it possible be considered a good showing for ps3 owners?
Yeah lets ignore parts of the conference, and then grade them seems fair lmao

They'll find some way. Though new console hardware automatically gives them SOME kinda edge.

an objective poster. Thank God.

It's a Sony thread, what do you want. lol

As I said a few pages back, it was better than the MS conference. But that's not difficult at all, considering how bad MS' conference was. The on-rails Move game certainly brought that level of cheesey-bad to Sony's as well, there was just less of it.

Eh. I'm not impressed. If I have to wear those goofy ass glasses I might as well wear VR goggles

I thought that was a pretty good conference, and it did many things right that Microsoft did wrong.

-A wide, diverse selection of genres. There's quite a lot here I'd like to play.

-Actually selling us on the pros of using unique input methods. Vita's touchscreen capabilities were shown very well in the Modnation Racers demonstration and LBP videos.

-It was well paced, though they did focus on some games for a bit too long.

-With its capabilities, launch lineup and price, they've made a compelling argument for Vita that I can't ignore.

-Their approach to the hacking incidents were humble and mature.

The negatives:

-AT&T, what were they thinking?

-There was no bombardment of surprises that truly strong E3 shows give us.

I'd give them an seven out of ten I think, I enjoyed watching that. It made Microsoft's FPSGUNBROSHOOTERS and CHILDKINECTWARE look increasingly polarised and laughable.

Scores so far.

MS - revised to 3/10 on repeat viewings.
Sony - 7/10

Nintendo's turn.

This was a good night for sony. Quite a few good looking games were shown, and the vita price news was big. They beat MS pretty soundly IMO.

Still, Nintendo should be able to outperform this unless they screw up.

I completely agree with you. And I don't own Kinect. I guess I'm the only one that sees the writing on the wall with motion control here.

Vita announcement include Vita games? Because then you are cutting off more than half the show.

The last handheld game system I owned was the GBA. So yeah, I don't give a shit about handhelds (or motion crap). I'd rate it Microsoft C-, Sony C for a console owner. Don't let us down Nintendo..

They beat Microsoft very easily, but that's not really an accomplishment. I was hoping for some good PS3 games to show, but it very lacking. At least they made up for it with the Vita demonstrations.

If you don't care about Vita, then I can see how this conference sucked, otherwise it was alright. Now time to wait for tomorrow to see how Nintendo will spank both Sony and Microsoft.

Think it's going to be a hit?

I'm not sure how big the market is for 25"-27" monitors these days? I know some of us are playing our gaming consoles on computer monitors, but I assume most are playing on 30+" HDTVs, no?

I could be very wrong, but it feels like a product looking for a market. It's supposed to work the other way around.

Sony had the btter show game wise. But it wasn't very exciting and I wish they would have mentioned some more PSN functionality. Vita portion went on too long but it was understandable and the price was perfect. I was kinda hoping for another megaton though.

Aside from Vita, I didn't think Sony's conference was very good. About on par with Microsoft.

That said, I did enjoy the Uncharted demo, the fat sweaty, breathless developers, the FIERCE Ms. Ono and Mr. Crab Claws :)

Can someone point me towards an A+ conference? (Konami 2010 doesn't count)
There's no such thing as the perfect/A+ conference.
Many might say that Nintendo's 2010 conference was because of all the games and the 3DS...and how many cared about those after E3? Many ignored Kirby, hated the hell out of Metroid Other M and Epic Mickey, are waiting for a price reduction of the 3DS (an more games)...and are still waiting for Skyward Sword.

Look at E3 2004 were Twilight Princess was revealed; which had people even crying...flash forward to now, were Twilight Princess is considered by many as one of the worst Zelda games "ever".

Many just want companies "to win E3", so they can add more bullet-points to their "list wars"; more than actually caring about the console/games announced.

I find it funny that year after year people fail to get their expectations in check and are disappointed by E3. It's not a "LETS SHOW EVERY GAME WE ARE WORKING ON ESPECIALLY ALL THE ONES THE GUYS ON MESSAGE BOARDS WANT TO SEE!" show. It's a "These are the games that are going to get retailers and casual gamers happy and get us news bites on CNN and USA Today" show.

Dust, nuf' said.

Best conference so far by a mile, as expected. Still, could have been better. They spent so much time showing Move stuff nobody cares for, yet leave greatness like Starhawk and Sly 4 with only CG. And no FFXIII-2 or Last Guardian? For shame.

Nice announcements though. Vita's pricing is particularly excellent.

I am still surprised at people not understanding this generation is winding down, in reards to megaton game announcements.
Good thing next-gen starts tomorrow then.
