E3 2011 Sony Conference Thread [Over]

Much better than Microsoft's conference, the Vita price was damn sweet to hear. Worldwide launch is even better. The Irrational surprise was really kind of nuts to see, and I loved seeing Levine's enthusiasm. Would have preferred something crazy to close out the conference on, but then again, we do have to save something for Gamescom... ;)

MS: D
Sony B

D to both main conferences. I want more then just shooting people and I could care less about handhelds. Truly a disappointing E3. I can't believe all I have left to look forward to is Nintendo.

I'm fine with Sony's content in the conferences, really I am, but I'm always struggling with the way they deliver it. Everyone just talk so much yet end up saying absolutely nothing, a lot of long montages (full of 2-second CG clips, with 3-second transition animations), and always being 2 hours.

Please, Sony, shorter speech pieces next time. Short and to the point. You don't have to add positive adjectives like "great" and "amazing" to every noun, you don't have to add "unfortunately I can't show everything I have on stage" with every presentation, and please cut back on any part of the montage that was shown elsewhere in the conference/is merely CG/is a transition between clips that is longer than a clip. Your conference takes two hours when it could be done in one, much more effectively.

I'm sorry, I just can't hold it in me anymore. It's a terrible way to deliver a conference. I was bored, and not because of the games, and that's a shame.

A
+Vita @ $250
+Sly cooper is back
+Bioshock collection
+PS3-Vita transferring
+Free content on the disc for third party titles
+exclusive MMO
+Entry level 3D bundle
+Vita titles from basically everyone

-Not enough PS3 titles
-Not enough diversity in titles
-No one compelling move game

All in all it was fantastic. And I await the japanese games that will be shown off in TGS.

Stay mad haters, I loved this conference.

So much damage control going on in here. I'd call it:

Sony: B
EA: C-
Ubisoft: D
Microsoft: Not even giving a grade. Failure hardly describes this conference.

Solid B. Very predictable E3 Conference- with their focus on Move, 3d, and their next interation in the handhelf market.

I'm just glad no one had to endure ridiculous children and children esque games like the ones shown with microsoft. I found myself cringing with embarassment for microsoft. I love Elmo and Cookie Monster and Disney is awesome-- but that was painful to watch.

There weren't any surprises in that conference...ugh...

Sony and Microsoft really let the ball drop, Nintendo shouldn't though. No matter what they do they've got the best chance to surprise us, their showing will definitely be entertaining.

I'm worried that with the low price Sony is going to try and make up the difference with the cost of the proprietary memory and the games.

Ya. I'm guessing it's too early for a 3DS Lite version but no doubt in my mind they drop to $199 USD this holiday season.

It depends on when Sony is able to launch the Vita, and with what software. Depending on what software Nintendo themselves have planned I'm sure they'd prefer to ride out one Christmas at $250.

"A+" if we are giving out grades.

Conference was actually entertaining to watch and everyone was highly amusing. No "party" games too with only short and occasional dips into "waggle".

They mentioned quite of few PS3 titles. Don't understand the complaint.
GOOD JOB JEREMY

Can't see how there's much room for complaints. No boring graphs/numbers and much toned-down on the montage overloads. It was perfectly above-average and certainly better than MS' tepid Kinect-focused showing.

Average conference, really really poor PS3 showing.
I thought it was ok, but the forced motion control integration was a negative for me. Get ready for Move to be shoved down your throat in a big way.

What?

The conference was average at best. I enjoyed Microsoft's as equally as this one.

I bet you love Kinect too. At least Sony had some real gameplay to show on the floor not some GIFs resource videos.

It's all about the games, and even though a lot of the Move/3D stuff didn't appeal, it wasn't as boring to watch as the Kinect/TV stuff in Microsoft's conference.

Sony put on a good show.

Did anyone really expect to see the Last Guardian here? We know it's coming out next year and I'm sure it will be shown at TGS.

The same people who expected Apple to announce the iPhone 5 today. You know...people who don't think too hard about things before they say them.

...or just trolls.

damn, the fanboys really come out during E3, don't they?

Microsoft: C-/C
Sony: C+/B-
EA: B+
Ubi: B+

Nobody's conference failed. All of them had issues and exciting new titles. Anyone suggesting otherwise is simply showing their bias.

I'm kind of puzzled as to what the difference was. Both focused a bit on core gamers and a bit on motion gaming.

Sony's was better based on the Vita information, but that's about it.

Both were shooters galore.

Sony's motion gaming is usually 1) Optional, 2) Not a game designed for kids/party gaming("FIST BUMP!") It also didn't dominate the show. Microsoft was basically 90% Kinect, which is unlike Move, can't play normal games.

Unfortunately, I'm more console > portable, which I'm pretty bummed out as I expected more PS3 coverage than that. I understand Sony had to split up the show like that, with new hardware especially, but I'm still not totally happy. I mean, Uncharted 3 is hopefully going to be even better than Uncharted 2 if that is possible, Starhawk, great. I know Jaffe did a bunch of TM stuff in between. But I expected something big out of them at the end. Granted the $249.99 is a megaton of it's own, but I wanted a console megaton. Where's Syphon Filter? What about The Agent? What about GG or SSM new projects? Where the fuck is a real Kingdom Hearts 3?

I don't think Levine had the same impact that Gabe had, no where even close, nor the Dust thing. If they got someone like the Blizzard guys out there that would have put the gaming world into shock. Then again, that dungeon crawler looked awesome, and the "lair" idea is incredible if there's depth to it. We need more dungeon crawlers.

But they really knocked Vita out of the park. Now if they got MW3 running on that, with PSV - PS3 cross-play online, they would have melted down the nets.

So far though, so good. Uncharted 3, BF3, Skyrim, TM, Sly, $249.99. Not too shabby of an E3.

I have that feeling though, PS3 is running it's course. Next year it's PS4 talk.

Variety? most of the ps3 trailers and demos were shooting games

unless you count the handheld stuff

Yes, I was counting the handheld stuff. The PS3 part was boring, but once the got to Vita it picked up.

Good point. I just love competition as it allows for so many plausible scenarios during this holiday season.

Love it.

PS3 part was shit. 0 new announcements, only already known games. Since when an E3 conf is a reminder of what I'm going to play during the year ?

NGP was good but only because of the price. Nice move by Sony, Nintendo must be really upset. Line up is decent too.

What has actually happened here is simple: Sony is throwing the Vita out below what *anyone* dared imagine they would. The 3DS didn't "fuck up" - Sony decided to get serious and bring the adamantium claws out.

Now we have a real fight on our hands. Not this imaginary bullshit we usually see people make up.

With the added spice that Sony is almost definitely losing money on the Vita, the 3DS will have a 7? month headstart by the time Vita releases, and since Nintendo raised the price before release, they have more room to reduce the price more quickly. Also, 3DS plays DS games, but for PSP games, you'll have to rebuy your UMDs as downloads, which may be a turn off for some people. I know it is for me (not that it's going to stop me at all).

Still, nothing on the 3DS scheduled to come out before the Holidays is going to put the Vita in the ground. Maybe Super Mairo Bros. or Animal Crossing (if that makes this year) might have a chance, but that's still a Holiday release at best. Vita has a good chance to take the top spot.

And you point at the player you want to choose and press the button. Then you press the button and the player makes the shot with his best move.

Sony's conference gets a C.

Sony's Vita price announcement gets a A.

That's the only fair/objective way to grade this shit.

True. B- average. I think the fact that Sony has learned to price a piece of hardware reasonably is promising for the future.

You guys are acting like that gamespot forums cesspool. You are almost identically arguing the same thing.

*shrugs*

Anyways, can't wait for Nintendo tomorrow.

All things considered, pretty average from Sony, but I guess they didn't want anything to overshadow $249.

Expected a bit more from PS3 though as well.

Though I'm glad Sony addressed the PSN hack in the way they did. I was glad to see that.
