I wonder if they still have easy access to all the original background renders. If they have they could just re-render them at a much higher resolution and call it a day. They didn't for the PC version though.

Yeah, if they had those the work would be simpler. If not, recreating them at higher resolution and possibly update them to make them look snazzier would be a large undertaking, given the amount of areas there are.

Even that would be a sizable production given each and every environment in Final Fantasy 7. Not only do you have the regular environments but you also have the overworld, the countless battle maps, the mini-games, and the character models themselves ranging from NPC's to enemies.

It would, in a way, be a waste to simply spend money on remaster of that caliber when you could simply remake the game from the ground up.

Do you still believe?

Recreating all of FFVII would be extremely expensive, it would crush Square Enix to produce it. That or we get two different graphic styles, like the cutscenes in the original: good vs iffy. PC version is what we get...but if only it could be what everyone wants, that would be one of the biggest announcements in E3 history after all of the demand for it.

I was thinking Sony would be co-funding it.

So, around the time of 3D World's release, it was confirmed that EAD was already preparing a new Super Mario game. That's surely pretty far along now. I really hope it's going to turn out to be a Wii U title, but I think there's a good chance that it will be for the 3DS. I also think there's a good chance that we'll see it at E3.

If it is a Wii U title, it will inevitably be one of the last showstoppers for the Wii U before the NX and its launch lineup (which may include Zelda). Or will Nintendo save the next console-based, 3D Mario adventure for the NX?

I beleive that it will be a launch title for NX along with Zelda. I just can't see any more high profile games being announced for Wii U...

6."apparently plans changed it might show up next year, sorry :("
7."I'll never get hyped again"

Good summary. Some people's expectations are way too high, especially for Square Enix. I think PSX last year taught me a lot about getting hyped and reigning in expectations.

A new 3D Mario game alongside a cross-platform Zelda? I'm not sure Nintendo would adopt that strategy. Either one of those titles will move consoles so, as a business decision, it seems redundant to have both at launch. I could see them holding off on Mario so as to buoy the NX a little later.

This is a bit of a tangent, but now I'm wondering about the original Galaxy. I'm curious if they could have pushed it towards a launch release for the Wii, but then felt this was unnecessary given the appeal of the motion controls, Wii Sports, and Twilight Princess. Perhaps they decided to keep refining it and/or hold off on releasing the game until a more appropriate window (November 2007).

What would be awesome is something akin to the Gamecube's lineup throughout the end of 2001: at launch, we got Luigi's Mansion, Wave Race: Blue Storm, and Super Monkey Ball, and then, only a short while later, Pikmin(!), Rogue Squadron, and Super Smash Bros. Melee. I'm not necessarily a fan of all of those (I love Melee, but I'm no longer interested in that series). Actually, I haven't even played most of those games, but I'm familiar with their reception (except for Wave Race) and I love the apparent diversity and quality of that lineup. If Nintendo followed a similar strategy, that would be great: the NX launches in September and lots of exciting games are steadily released right up until Christmas.

I mean, imagine picking up an NX with a new Zelda and, say, Pikmin 4, and then waiting a few weeks and getting something from Retro Studios, and then maybe a new 3D Super Mario title right before Christmas.

That would be quite the opening salvo.

Since we're all talking about L5, let's sit down, watch the original reveal of WKC and its best trailer and sadden up for what it could have been.

But yeah, i'm okay with them trying something ambitious once again (i loved NnK too, but i don't know if i want a sequel).
Just hope Sony helps them where they're weaker.

Now I'm sad. Shit, that looks so much better than the final product.

Worse than last year?? Good no...Last year was already very very weak

IIRC every Insider is expecting a better E3 Show this Year....With Uncharted Gameplay, Horizon and the next Level 5 Exclusive thats already a given

How Sony's last year E3 was weak if they showed BUNCH of games ( besides Powers part which was boring for me )?

I am coming to this E3 with in-check hype, I think it's for the best. If the show happens to be huge, I'll be shocked; if it isn't I won't be sorely disappointed.
my secret wish for Rogue Galaxy is an exception and acknowledged as basically improbable lol

I'll stick to GAF though, love the hype spiraling into heartbreak xD

The only reason why a Ni No Kuni sequel would be great is Ghibli's art direction, and Ghibli's situation isn't precisely ideal at the moment, so I wouldn't put my money on a NnK sequel being L5's PS4 title (it may happen, but I don't see it as obvious)

Whether they go for an existing series' sequel or a new IP, I hope they channel their PS2 self, those were good times for L5.

This x 100. Every single time; it's amazing to just see this happen in a never ending cycle. I guess I'm starting to like seeing the reactions at part 5-7 more and more.

There's a lot of truth to this. It's why I'm pretty much done with people flaunting their apparent insider knowledge now, especially around this time of year. Leaks are bad enough and spoil a perfectly good conference, but the fact that they essentially have a convenient excuse in "Plans change" whenever they end up wrong is grating.

I'm not against getting hyped in general, it's all part and parcel of the E3 build-up as far as I'm concerned, but in terms of insiders striding into threads and dropping hints, I'm going to try and maintain an unwavering skepticism. I caved briefly with that guy who recently said TLG fans will be happy, but he was probably full of shit in the end, vetted or not.

unless it's DemonNite, he's a G

The cycle will never be broken.

Problem is also that, no matter how good the conference is, you will be disappointed because all the hype creates unrealistic expectations. That's something verendus always tries to soften.

The trick is to get hyped but to never expect the impossible (TLG, FFVIIR, Agent and so on), then you can truly enjoy a conference.
I mean, even Sony blowing out what everyone of their studio is doing in a single conference has more chances than one of them.

The insiders tend to whip that hype into a frenzy, though. For me, I've rarely been disappointed by a conference because I don't have big expectations except for what is obvious, and it's been fun that way. It can then suck when insiders enter the fray, insist that there's one thing that will definitely happen, and then it doesn't. It's why I'm always skeptical until I actually see something.

Do you any potential news for a Knack 2? I'm like the only one that's REALLY craving for it :(

Not an insider. Neither have informations.
It's just a bet. Follow the posts.

For the others talking about insiders, I would line they do what I do for my friends. I make them very excited for the most boring/non-important parte, or even say it will sucks to such extent that... You understand. Both ways they allways enjoy.

due to game of telephone rules this time next week FF7 and TLG will be "fucking confirmed I mean how can it not" and news sites will be fervently discussing the upcoming announcements of those games as if fact

up until and throughout the Digital Event people will be "excited to see the new Zelda trailer"

and Rare is working on Banjo Threeie, Battletoads, Perfect Dark and a new IP and they're all AAA titles and no you can't convince these people otherwise

Where's theWorthyEdge when you need him?

Oh I'm here lol. I've learned from past "mistakes" (?) not to post anything anymore.

Its been a weird ass month. Usually this is a hectic month with leaks everywhere and all over the place. Nothing. Or nothing in the multitude of what has happened in the past. Its either a good thing, or a really bad thing. It's the calm before the storm except this calm is much longer than usual. Strange and, in a slight, eery. The time is almost near for that storm, and following a long calm means a big one to come.

Will the Guardian rise?
Will Square show they arent a pile of asses?
Will Rare ever see a Banjo game again?

Only time will tell.

"NeoGAF insider TheWorthyEdge claims E3 will feature the much anticipated re-reveal of Team Ico's The Last Guardian, a new entry in the hugely popular Banjo Kazooie series, and a suite of exciting Square Enix announcements that will prove 'they aren't a pile of asses'.

For all that and more, keep it locked to OnlineGamingPublication.com for all the E3 coverage you crave."

Now that the PS VIta is officially a legacy plattform in Sony's eyes, in the west (ok yoshida said this last year) It's safe to say that Gravity Rush will be a Ps4 only game.
Announcement either this E3 or at TGS

Will the Guardian rise?

Yes. In Destiny: Comet

Will Square show they arent a pile of asses?

Yes... whether or not they're dicks is a different question, though.

Will Rare ever see a Banjo game again?

Yes. The copies of Kazooie, Tooie and Nuts & Bolts they have lying around in their studio building.

Only time will tell.
Time will tell indeed.

Lol.

I like your posts! And it does seem extraordinarily eerie.

Edit: I just noticed I've been juniored - nooooo.

Who hath I forsaken to deserve this cruelty?

what were the rumors/leaks that never came to fruition for last years E3? maybe they will show up this time around...
The biggest was probably Microsoft securing a massive third party exclusive. They ended up with timed exclusivity with Tomb Raider, but that came later. There were rumors that they would have something akin to like Mass Effect 4 or Fallout exclusive to their platform. As of :P

Tidux, a supposed insider on twitter, also lost what little credibility he had last year when he claimed The Last Guardian, Horizon, and a new IP from Thatgamecompany were all going to be shown at Sony's show.

I enjoyed the PSX hype quite a bit and I don't blame insiders one bit. And I don't think people should either. If you can't control your own expectations and hype, that seems to be a personal issue, especially if you start expecting a conference that sounds like it's out of a fanfic.

My understanding of the PSX hype was that people were enjoying themselves but no one actually believed most of that stuff would happen. I mean, if you did...
