E3 2015 Predictions & Discussion thread

Yea, I think Microsoft will have some deal with them, and there will be a trailer at Microsoft's conference, and then gameplay at Bethesda's.

I just don't see it. This isn't even a MS/Sony thing either. They booked a conference to give their games the spotlight, and having that game appear elsewhere defeats that. Yeah it has happened with other games, but they've always had a clear distinction between modes. Coop/Sp, Competitive/SP etc. 2 SP gameplay demos for time exclusive dlc sounds wrong. The most I could see is something tagged or spoken at the end of the Bethesda trailer, but to each their own.

High chances
for Smartphone port

I could see this happening because the MP of Uncharted could take some disc space and it is possible they might just strip it down and instead ship it with a beta MP for UC 4. I mean fitting the whole trilogy on single disc might be hard and they would have to cut some corners, so they are better off just offering the beta for MP and stripping the collection of its MP and just focus on SP.

And after the beta ends? People are still gonna want to play Uncharted 2 & 3's mp, especially Uncharted 2. Why wouldn't they just use more than disc?

after the Yooka Layle Reactions, Sony realizes the potential in this Genre & will announce a Crash Reboot at E3

Who will talk about Last Guardian after that :)

Activision owns Crash, not SCE.

Also within the genre, they've already got Ratchet & Clank and Tearaway: Unfolded coming up. ;)

Maybe they'll reboot or continue Jak and Daxter and/or Ape Escape one day.

Crash Bandicoot and Spyro reboots are possible, but that will be in Activision's hands and those games would be multiplatform. :)

Considering Activision has revived the Sierra brand as a label for their digital download games, I wouldn't rule out that they're going to reboot Crash Bandicoot one day because they've shown willingness to diversify their portfolio. Not to mention, it's obviously still a popular IP, so there's definitely potential for big commercial success if they manage to make a great game.

Crash and Spyro reboots under the (Activision) Sierra label could be pretty cool, actually. They just need to find the right indie developers.

Gamescom will be better presented this year too. SCEE is simply better at that aspect.

The third party section can't be avoided at E3 though. You're going to see games at Sony's conference that you'll see at other publisher conferences. It's important to have them on stage, because it's about promoting the platform. Just like you want to see new games, Sony wants to show everything that it has coming, and that includes big franchises. Titles like Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty, Madden, Battlefront, and others, are all important for both Sony and Micrsoft. You're going to show what you can.

The way I view this issue is a bit different. The problem isn't necessarily that you have third party games given a lot of time, it's just that in the past two years, some people were fatigued with the ones being shown. That's not to say they're the ones with the only valid viewpoint, because Destiny has a lot of fans on GAF, and it's probably the main title that takes the brunt of that criticism. It still had over a dozen OTs on here. The other issue the focus tends to be with is franchises that have a lot of exposure.

The important thing is balance. If you were shown third party games, but it wasn't just the annualised titles, and you got to see new announcements, or footage of different types of titles, this wouldn't feel like as much of a sticking point. Would people feel like that about titles like DMC, Persona, Resident Evil, and various others? I'll take this a more general route now, rather than as a response to you.

The way the E3 conference is organised is that it involves speaking to a lot of different developers, writing scripts for people, coordinating what's going to be shown, how the segments are broken down, where everything fits, how much time is given, and then the people responsible have to put everything together. I'm not trying to make excuses for them here. Microsoft and the other publishers also do presentations, so it's not a unique situation necessarily. SCEA's conferences do feel bloated, and the pacing can be off. They also want to give developers a place to kind of talk, and present their games, and how you feel about this is going to vary from individual to individual. Some people would probably prefer a more focused presentation with one presenter, who keeps things flowing (amongst bringing in a few folks at times to talk), while others might not mind the current format too much. It allows the people involved to do something too. Mind you, they're aware of this. And not just that, but also the idea of trying to get more presence from other types of games, and Japanese games. You just have to fit everything in, and that's not always easy. There's pressure on them too.

It's about balance though. SCEJ/A has their own presentation later in the year, and you also have TGS, and they need a platform to promote games that appeal to their market. Not everything can be at E3, but at the same time, E3 is still very much an important place to be. So bringing titles that you might not usually expect at E3, and trying to promote them isn't a bad idea. That's something that can be addressed, and will kind of be addressed this year a little bit.

I, personally, feel very good about this E3. Not about the presentation itself, but I'm talking about the content. Most of the first party titles initially announced are out of the way, or soon to be out of the way. This naturally puts us in a position where you start looking towards the next set of titles that will take most of the focus over the coming two years.

You're still going to get people upset because they don't like Morpheus, or they don't like more casual titles, or they don't like western titles, or for some other reason. There's always something. The key is just to provide a good balance, and give people a bit of everything. If it's presented well too, then it doesn't feel too draining either. And that's a good strategy because that's what Sony wants the PS4 to be. You're not just trying to appeal to one set of people, and everyone has different tastes.

There's a good variety this year. I'm not trolling, or trying to get your hopes up so I can see them crash and burn. Japanese gaming fans should be pleased, because there's a good presence there. It's not at the expense of western published titles, so they'll absolutely be there, and if people don't like that, then you have to understand that there are those who do like to see those titles. Not everyone is going to watch every conference. Since there's a couple of new announcements, and some nice surprises at Sony's E3, there should be enough there to make most people happy, even if there may be certain segments not everyone will be interested in.

Like I said before, this year is about as good as it gets for the most part. Most people are going to come away from E3 feeling more positive. But every year, there's always people who expect half a dozen megatons. A lot of people say it as a joke, but there's people who think of it very sincerely. In my eyes, it's not about that one big announcement, it's about having a good balance of everything. That "high" is only going to last so long, if everything else isn't where it needs to be.

And the kind of big announcements that people really want, such as huge third party exclusives, or the fabled FF7 remake, all of this stuff is not possible every year. And no one should be going in with that kind of mindset. That should be your icing on the cake. You shouldn't be thinking that's what it's going to take to be satisfied with the conference. Even if a big third party exclusive isn't announced, does that really make a difference to gamers? If just a big third party game is announced, you're still going to be able to play it. It's silly to look at these things as being the most important part of the conference, and it tends to be these things that disappoint a lot of people. They're always waiting for that one big exclamation point, and some massive surprise. But here's the thing, if we deliver something like that one year, and there's going to be a moment when it happens, then what about the next year, or the year after that? It's not going to happen all the time. Those are your rare moments, and it's part of why they're so memorable.

Sorry for bringing up an older post again (great post), but I wanted to comment on the bolded.

Nobody wants 3rd party exclusives, especially if they were initially planned to be multiplatform by the respective publisher

Whether Rise of the Tomb Raider or Street Fighter V would be on PS4, XB1 and PC, or just on PS4 or XB1, it doesn't matter. People are happy if they get to play the game on the platform that they have. :)

If say Rise of the Tomb Raider was initially planned to be on PS4, XB1 and PC, and now it's only on XB1 due to a deal between Square Enix and Microsoft Studios, it doesn't enrich my experience if I was planning to play it on XB1 anyway. (don't have an XB1 by the way, just speaking from a hypothetical point of view).

If I enjoy a game, I would like as many other people to be able to enjoy the game as well. I'm pretty sure that's how developers think about the games they create as well, even if they can only make them for one specific platform for business reasons, if they're a subsidiary of MS or SCE for example.

i know that :) Still there are some guys here (including me) dreaming of an Crash Reboot (Sony buying of the rights)
It all happened since 2013 with some of those little teases.....The dream will go on

I don't think Verendus means it in that sense, but rather in the sense of it's a big announcement as an omg moment.

Nobody's really surprised if Sony/MS/Nintendo announces 4 new games or something from their internal studios because we know they have games in the pipeline. But something like a 3rd-party big exclusive, or something completely out-of-the-left-field announcement, definitely gets people talking in the 'big' sort of way.

Like I said, I think a Crash reboot is possible, but I think it's much more likely that if it happens, it will be made/published by Activision.

SCE already has its own platforming franchises that they can focus on: Ratchet & Clank, Tearaway, LittleBigPlanet. And Jak and Daxter and Ape Escape.

I just don't think they would hand over a hefty amount of money to acquire Crash Bandicoot, when they already have both running (Ratchet & Clank) and dormant platforming IP's that they already own that they could revive. (e.g. Jak and Daxter).

Sure, Crash Bandicoot might be very iconic, but it also means that Activision would probably want a decent sum for Crash.

If they can get a good deal with Activision, they could probably do it though. But if Activision asks a lot of money for Crash, SCE would probably prioritize a focus on their own portfolio of platforming IP's.

I don't get why Activision won't sell it to Sony. The IP was a massive failure under Activision, their games sucked and they started selling less and less. It's popular as an IP if Sony is getting their hands on it, not Activision.

They may try to integrate it with Skylanders. That would be my only guess as to whatever value it still potentially holds for Activision.

I respect this list, simply because you started with TLG and finished with Shenmue III. Bookends don't get any better than that.

The Last Guardian, coming this holidays!
Lol

I wonder what will be on Gameinformer cover this month. E3 is so close and devs/publishers will keep big announcement for their conferences.

Oh I just remembered another thing that I could see announced at E3: A Uncharted 4 multiplayer beta for the holidays, possibly tied to the Uncharted Collection (hopefully the Collection only gives early access at best)
I will buy the collection if it includes a meaty SP demo

Nah Ubi will save that for E3 like they did with AC Unity last year. It would be announced already if it wasn't E3 announcement. Before AC Unity every AC was announced in March/April.

Actually, last year's E3 cover - whilst it was still a Ubisoft one - was actually Far Cry 4. It wasn't until either side of gamescom (can't remember if it was before or after) they had Assassin's Creed on the cover and even then, the emphasis was on Rogue as we didn't know a great deal of it compared to Unity.

Also FC4 was already announced before GI cover. Next week should be Ubisoft conference call and FC4 was announced on conference call last year. But it could be The Division, i think that we didn't saw it before and it would be good game for GI cover before E3 because it is already announced but we don't know too much about it.

Heres a question that's probably been answered but I'll ask anyway. Seeing how Sony has historically been more balanced in their distribution of large name game announcement between E3, Gamescom, and TGS, which market would theoretically have more invested interest in The Last Guardian? Perhaps it's a no brainer that TGS would be the go to announcement forum but that market also doesn't have as much influence over their sales figures as Europe or US. If they are ever going to announce it would it make sense to announce it at E3 to garner as much pre release momentum as possible or is it a given that Europe and the Americas will generate good sales number no matter where they announce?

Why would Sony bother with "megatons" tbh.

There's battlefront, BLOPS3, UC4, indies, SFV, bloodborne DLC, ...

More than enough to fill a conference.

There's still other events.

Cheers, dunno how I missed SPD. They just released Fatal Frame in Japan, and that's coming to the West soon. They're probably working on something else too. I doubt IS is though as they just released Codename S.T.E.A.M. and are likely at least in communication with Atlas on SMT X FE.

If Sony say anything about TLG, it's gotta be more than 5 seconds and then a minimum 6 month wait.

It's gotta be a gameplay demonstration or something, I know it's not the type of game to do that but they gotta prove it's real.

I guess Tales of Zestiria for PS4 is not gonna happen.

No, he was talking about a new brawler/Crossove Game coming to Ps4 after the debacle with All Stars

How did i miss this? Damn, now you got me hyped. PS Allstars was fantastic, and now they had time to learn from mistakes and release an even better game? Well hopefully better.. this is all i needed to read to enter hypemode.

tough it had its flaws, i also had a decent time with all stars (all those nighs with Friends)
I hope we don't have to wait very long for the next Crossover

One part I am most interested in is PlayStation Third Party Productions, after E3 last year, GamesCom and PlayStation Experience.

Grim Fandango, Broken Age, Street Fighter V, Suikoden 2 for the Vita and Yakuza makes me wonder what else they have up their sleeve.

I could see the PS4 version of TOZ being announced in this segment.

Full Throttle Remastered seems like a no-brainer after Day of the Tentacle Remastered comes out. Hopefully Yakuza Zero as well (I'd kill for Kenzan and Isshin as well but they don't look likely at all :( ).
