EA Cancels Next-Gen Game Bond

Everything or Nothing was great. Right up there with the original Goldeneye N64 game.

From Russia with Love was horrible. Though I stopped playing after the first car level.

yeah, the game is unimpressive at first, but it has its charms

the games best level is the last one inside the evil lab. but like I said, its watered down

I remember one interview with Larry where he said something like: "I'm shocked at the WoW success."

Where's your MMORPG EA?

There's still a chance for a Revolution version.
heehee nicely done.

I don't know if he was being sarcastic or not, but that's actually a good idea. Just up the visuals a bit, add in RevCon controls for aiming, and you have a good launch game for Revolution. (vs. 1.5 years waiting for a good/well-received FPS for the NDS which is another system that would potentially be very good for FPS games.) I sort of hope a lot of companies do this at Revolution launch (take a current-gen game that potentially would work well with the RevCon, up the visuals a bit, add in RevCon controls, and release as a launch game for Revolution). I'd think it'd be more well-received (at least, critically) than the increased visuals in Xbox360 ports of current games have been.

Wait, wait -- Everything Or Nothing is a good game? I've just been automatically ignoring all of the EA Bond games.

I think EA is going back to the drawing board. Their mediocre shit doesn't sell anymore because it has the EA logo on the box. It was mentioned by their CEO at a recent industry conference, everything is under the microscope. I wouldn't be surprised if other games got canned. Need for Speed next?

Yes. And it;s FUCKING EXCELLENT in co-op. An entirely different, well-thought out and uniquely designed experience using the one-player levels but with very well optimised-for-co-op enemy placements. Jetjevons and myself loved every minute.

It's hard as nails too. I wonder what happened to the team that made this? Or at least the gameplay designer, because he or she is what EA fucking needs.

didn't have the same team that worked on EoN

Wrong. Most of the team that worked on EoN worked on From Russia with Love. I don't see how people can like EoN and not Russia as they're extremely similar. The team that did Rogue Agent is completely separate from the 3rd person Bond team, as the Rogue Agent team was in LA, and the other Bond team is in Redwood.

Highly doubt it, I think its the #1 selling game in Europe for December.

Yep, they'll likely go back to the Underground concept for the next game, and that's a very popular version of the NFS series.

EA should let Eurocom make another FPS Bond.

EA Redwood Shores made both, yes, but the main talent from Redwood Shores has been slaving away on The Godfather (and word has it, now on the first Simpsons game).

I think in the face of Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Godfather, and now the Simpsons licenses, Bond just isn't as important to EA. Pity, that.

If EA was smart (hey - it could happen), they'd have Criterion porting the Black Engine over to next-gen platforms and build all their FPS games on top of that.
I don't ever want to hear you say "port" and "next gen platforms" in the same sentence again, okay?

Free Radical suck. EA are best off going in their own direction.

yep. EA can only reachout to Zoonami. Unless MS get Rare to work on it.

Zoonami would be a good choice, if not, use EON team

Interesting you said that, I got a note a week or two ago that John B is leaving EA, didn't he head the LA site earlier?

Don't honestly know the structure of EA LA (as I don't work for EA) but if he did, would it shock you? I mean, if your name is tied into something that the company is very upset about, you would probably want a change.

It's like when you're walking around and people in the break room talk in whispers, then quiet up as you pass. I mean, if he's leaving because of this, I feel bad cause he got a raw deal. I'd give anyone in that position the benefit of the doubt and it was the people 5 levels below him who ended up screwing things up.

What makes things worse is that EA's semi-lax management style previous to this incident goes away. There's only a few studios who still have the lax environment... until they start losing money on projects...
