EA CEO: We`re not trying to be greedy.

I honestly don't understand what he's trying to say here.

His wording is a little byzantine but I think he's trying to say when people traditionally "spend time where they spend their money" he means that when someone invests in a $60 video game, they "force" themselves to spend their time with it as well in order to justify the money already spent. "Now" the idea behind EA Access and other a la carte services is to spend money where you find you spend the most time without imposing restrictions like satisfaction bias for a physical product you're stuck with. Or something.

'We're not greedy, honestly!', he says as he shoves a whole birthday cake in his mouth.

After what they pulled with Dungeon Keeper mobile im surprised PR even bothers to clean up EA's image.

On a personal note i was done with them the moment they fired the creator of PlantsvsZombies. PvZ2 is the most cash grab shit they could have pumped out with none of the pacing of the original thanks to microtransactions.

"We're not trying to be greedy," as you release the garbage that is Star Wars Battlefront with no maps, and you need a season pass to get what would otherwise be a full game 10 years ago.

Andrew Wilson is probably one of the most unlikable public figures in the videogame industry. Pretty much everything he says here rubs me the wrong way.

Not a fan of them but hey, they're a business trying to survive in a changing climate. They found a way to do that and then some. Not sure if that's greedy or just smart business sense.

If you don't like it, vote with your wallet. I've bought maybe 5 games of them in the past 10 years - 2 of them were €20 and the others were used for <€5. All great value to me.

I should never see another micro-transaction in an EA game that isn't free-to-play, then.

Battlefront and Need for Speed have been a good change of pace. Let's see if it continues.

Sounds like they want to drop the up-front price of console games and make back their losses from micro transactions. I'm 100% down for this.

So would you blame all of the problems a nation is facing on the president/prime minister that had just been elected?

Most people don't really understand how a behemoth company works. They're like Titanic (even the sinking sometimes) and steering them is not as easy and quick as some people think.

Also, "greed" is pretty much in the job description for the CEO of an already established company.

I don't think EA is greedy, or at least, they aren't worst than any other big video game company. And they have a lot of good games and services, I can't say the same for every other company that is "greedy" like EA.

No, just saying he didn't exactly try to give EA a better image of not being greedy by letting it be released.

Also, what problems? Its not like someone is attacking the capital of EA. It's EA themselves wailing in the mud and saying "look at all the money we made from you suckers!"

Ha, EA are transparent in their greed. Just look at Battlefront, that game is daylight robbery cashing in on brand at a trendy time.
It's expensive, sure, but the game's very well-built. We'll see how they handle the expansions, but if the only problem is price, then we're doing pretty good.

An expensive game is eventually affordable, but a bad game is bad forever. Usually.

"We're not trying to be greedy, but we are".

Seriously look at Halo 5 free updates. The way they should be selling FPS's, even R6:S is doing it right.

Because Titanfalls DLC didn't become free with an update, Battlefront didn't get night maps (as far as I know the last one was happening / has happened).

I wouldn't call basing your whole game mode in Halo 5 around Microtransactions "doing it right". Diablo 3 on consoles for sure has great, free content.

Now I'm not a part of the "EA is EVIL!" camp, or any other publisher for that matter. But I definitely got a chuckle out of this.

While I suppose his statements won't sit well with GAF, if you ask me, what he's saying is reasonable enough. He's right, the video game market went through some significant changes with the rise of Internet, smartphones and whatever, so capitalizing on that is perfectly valid. Besides, I think EA is big enough they can provide us with both the traditional games and these new, microtransaction or DLC based models. While I'm not too interested in most of their games, I honestly don't see them as "evil" or "greedy."

Dear EA:

Your history of bullshit is too long for anyone to trust anything you have to say.

Sincerely yours,
The internet

XOXOXO

I wish some of these company's would just own it instead of trying to pretend to be something your not.

I'm not saying come out and say 'WERE GREEDY AS FUCK GIVE US MONIEZ!!!' but instead of trying to pretend your not greedy just be more honest. Something like...

'We know how some people portray us as being greedy but we are a business and we have a responsibility to our shareholders to make them as happy as possible and while some of the decisions we make because of that at times make our customers upset doing so is the only way to keep making the high budget games and services they ask for.'

I could make that a lot longer but I have no actual desire to think how an EA PR person would.
