This is retarded. This level of severing of cultural ties didn’t even happen during the height of the Cold War, not when the Soviets crushed the uprisings in Hungary and Czechia, not when they installed nuclear missiles on Cuba, and not when they invaded Afghanistan.

The West seems to hate Russia more than they ever hated the USSR.

It didn't happen even with Third Reich Germany.

That's because most of the West had and still has, an irrational love of communism. People who actually have to live under it seem less enthusiastic about it.

For the record, I think this is a a dumb move that accomplishes nothing. I support Ukraine wholeheartedly, but hockey players aren't responsible for this, and again, removing them accomplishes nothing.

It's funny how from many responses you can openly see the hatred for Russia, China and some Middle East countries. All the ones the US considers enemies and is always spreading false propaganda about. Still waiting for those WMD in Iraq.......

It's an impotent move by EA, but I can't seem to forget that Russia is indiscriminately destroying Ukraine on very flimsy, basically made-up reasoning.

Wrong. When Germany started invading Poland, several countries started sanctions against Germany.
Several countries blocked trade with Germany, impounded German ships, etc.
Now Russia invades Ukraine, it also gets sanctions against it.

Sanctions (which never hit their "intended" target) are one thing, fucking trying to remove Dostoyevski is another.

When Germany started WW2 several German film makers, writers and business were censored in Allied countries.

During WW1, the British Royal family changed their name to Windsor, as to remove their association with Germany (Saxe-Coburg and Gotha)

Is EA somehow involved in the invasion?

That’s why the Royalty did that. They were “fighting” their cousins. In quotes because the royals don’t fight wars.

EA is a company. Just like many companies during WW2 that cut ties with German business.
Remember the point in discussion is the statement from H Hastelander that the Third Reich was not sanctioned. Which is verifiably wrong.

Did any of them ban Goethe or Mozart thoguh?

Don't know about the whole list of German authors that were banned during WW1 and WW2.
But I can assure you that many were. Some were so, even after the end of these wars.
For example, France banned all German cinema even a decade after the end of WW1.

But once again, your point that the Third Reich, or even the Second Reich, was never sanctioned, is very wrong.

am I the only one who doesn't give a shit about Ukraine? Zelensky is a grifting manlet and all the pro Ukrainian cucks can eat a bag of you know what.

That's a dumb take. If the Russians aren't defeated now and stopped in Ukraine, the Americans will be fighting them in person, in Europe in WW3, because the fascist Russian government believes in the revival of the territorial domain of the Russian Empire.

Banning Dostoyevski was attempted to be done by a few institutions and was not government policy. You sound awfully much like a Russian apologist though.

Pathetic. Cancelling an entire nation and people is such a Nazi thing to do. FU, EA.

“One nation, one president, one victory” - Russian war cry.
"Ein Volk, ein Reich, ein Führer" - which translates to "one people, one nation, one leader" - Nazi war cry

There is someone doing Nazi stuff here alright, but it's not the West.

Might I remind you that Putin has been claiming for decades that the Ukraine is not a real country.
Maybe you think that invading a neighbor country is OK, but you draw the line at a football game banning Russian teams.
Support whomever you want in the decades old Russian-Ukrainian conflict. I couldn't care less. But if you're going to be all righteous and virtuous, be consistent.

Cancel Ukraine, too, for murdering 10,000+ Russians in Donbas from 2014-2022. Cancel the US for murdering 100s of thousands of Middle Easterners in the endless wars starting by George HW Bush. Cancel China for enslaving and brutalizing Muslim minorities. Cancel Turkey for murdering 100s of thousands of Armenian and other Christians.

Shall I go on?

So dumb. Obviously the war in Ukraine is a bad thing but there's more to it than "Russia's War of Aggression"

Years from now, Ukraine is going to resemble Cambodia post-Khmer Rouge. There's going to be an entire generation missing. Tourists will ask themselves, where are all the middle-aged and elderly men??

Fairly solid move and hope it holds for future games. Russia is a terrorist state that attacked a sovereign nation without any provocation and caused the loss of countless civilian lives. Erasing their national symbols from the free world is just the tip of the iceberg. They are headed to become the next north Korea with all the brain drain and negative sentiment from the west. At the end of the day it will be a shit hole county with alcoholics and above average looking women.

The Ukraine is killing Russian invaders. If Russia hadn't started another war with the Ukraine, there would be no Russians killed.
If you and Russia are so concerned about the invasion of Iraq and Afghanistan, you are free to boycott the US and EU. The same applies to Armenia and China.
But then we have to remember that Russia never showed any concern about any group of people being killed any where in the world.

Yep, and not only that. Try to live as a German in the United States or other Allied power countries at that time, with people thinking you're a spy, or just having a "legitimate" reason to fuck you over. We see that now to some degree here in Germany where Russian resentment is growing. It's not like people burn buildings or anything (not yet at least...), but it's definitely more tense than before.

Actually we all can predict how things will turn out because we've been there already in some form or another over thousands of years of human cultural existence.

This is absolute BS and how I can tell you are a russian shill. The great majority of the casualties were soldiers of the invaders and collaborators, as numbers from the OHCHR state "only" 2000 people in 8 years between 2014 and the beginning of 2022 were civilian casualties. Obviously every civilian death is a casualty, but Ukraine had to defend the sovereignty of their territory against a Russian terrorist regime intent on genocide and it's a tragedy that cannot be avoided.

Compare that to the thousands of civilians the Russians have murdered, raping and looting the Russians have done in Bucha and plenty of other towns and cities. The children they have kidnapped and sent to Russia, the torture of captured soldiers (including a guy getting his balls cut off by his torturer before being killed) and the continuous call for the genocide of the entire Ukranian people. Not to mention the fascist government that represses protests, murders political opposition, has called free speech dangerous and has absolute control of the media to spread their propaganda.

Someone is evil here alright, and it's not the West. Putin is basically a Stalin cosplayer.

Seems like the point of my post went right over your head. And also, you know very little about the recent history in Ukraine and Russia. The violence in Ukraine started in 2014 with the CIA-sponsored coup to install a Western puppet in Kiev. The Russian population in Eastern and Southern Ukraine (in historically Russian lands) didn't want to be under the control of ultra-nationalist Western Ukrainians who hated Russians and Russia and discriminated against the Russian population. (Ukrainian nationalists call Russians "orcs" because they consider them sub-human because they are cross-bred with Mongols, whereas Ukrainians are the "true pure Slavs".)

So the Russian populations declared independence in the cast of the Donbas Republics, and joined Russia in the case of Crimea. Then the Ukrainian nationalists, including actual neo-Nazis, started attacking and bombing the Russian separatists and committed many war crimes. Of course you know nothing about any of this because it was never reported in whatever news sources you use. I know about this stuff because I've been following this area of the world for a long time in my academic and professional life.

You can still take Ukraine's side in the conflict, but if you are a serious person you should actually learn the whole story before publicly stating an opinion.

And as to the point of my previous post, if you are going to condemn and support cancellation of an entire people and nation (as the EA virtue signalers are doing), then be consistent and cancel all the "bad countries" (which are pretty much all them, based on history).

Stop it with your Russian propaganda, tovarish. It is Putin that installs Russian puppets in states "allied" to him, that's the reason why Lukashenko is still President of Belarus, despite obvious lack of popularity. Ukrainians wanted to align themselves with the west and Putin resented that, which is why he decided to invade Crimea. Why would the supposed "ultra-nationalists" of Ukraine elect a jewish leader, if they were so concerned with race?

The "independence" is a sham, the Russians referendums have a pre-decided outcome and it is Russia simply annexing territory that doesn't belong to them. Why are the russian speakers in Ukraine in the east rejecting them even now? They went around Kherson and attempted to get an opinion poll to get annexed to Russia, and 90% of people opposed.

Now you, "serious" person, the actual scale of the war crimes by Russians in Ukraine has been documented and proven. In a few months, they have destroyed towns and cities, raped children and women, tortured captured soldiers in terrorist fashion, and yet you have the balls to tell people disinformation on what the Russians and Ukranians were doing.

If the Russians are so virtuous, why does Putin need to murder political opponents? Why do they spread propaganda of Nazis in Ukraine when their propaganda techniques are straight out of the Nazi playbook? "One Nation, One People, One President"? "We are only protecting Russian speakers and used to be ours anyway" - same excuse the Nazis used to annex the Sudetenland, Poland and annex Austria.

Go back to lick Putin's boot, tovarish.

But my post was not for the likes of you. It was for others reading that want a better picture of what is going on.

I can show you sources of everything I've posted. Evidence of the war crimes, numbers of civilians dying due to the conflict between 2014 and early 2022 due to Russians invasion, sources of Russian Nazi inclinations. I've been following this shit from the beginning because I live 800 kms from Lviv and the Russians feel entitled to dominating where I live.

What sources do you have other than Putin boot licking tovarish?

I understood very well your post. Whenever some country invades another country, Russians find that as an excuse to invade one of their neighbors.
The Ukrainian people choose to increase their ties with the EU, because they want freedom and prosperity. But in the last centuries, under Russian rule, all they got was poverty, genocide and war.
You can talk all you want about CIA interference, but that means nothing when Russia was poisoning politicians, journalists and activists in the whole Europe.
As if the FSB and Russian military weren't trying to commit a coup in 2014 in Ukraine. But still, the Ukrainian people choose not to side with Russia.
There is a reason why so many countries that were under Russian rule for decades or centuries, are all siding with the Ukraine. Because they know that Russia rule means exploitation, slavery, genocide, totalitarianism and misery.

That is one of the tricks Russia uses to annex parts of a country, remove the local population, replace it it Russians and then claim it's has to be Russian land.
Might I remind you for example, that the reason why there are so many Russians in Crimea was because Russia committed a geocide against the Tartars.

I know a lot about history about eastern Europe, especially in the XX century. What I don't have is a blind spot for Russian propaganda.
Are you writing Putin's propaganda from one of those glorious Khrushchyovkas?

Once again, if you and Russia are so concerned about the invasion of Iraq and Afghanistan, then why didn't your country impose sanctions on the EU and USA?
The reason is simple, because Russians don't give a shit about other people's countries. You only care about the Ukraine so that you can exploit it again, like Russia did for centuries.

What else is there? There would be no war if the Russians packed up their bags, left the Donbas and Crimea and return to Russia. It's Putin's ambitions to increase the Russian empire that created this conflict.
NATO encroaching on Russia's border since the fall of the USSR. The Maidan Uprising and US participation in it. Neo Nazi paramilitary groups being funded and given arms by the US and other Western Allies. Open and continual cultural embrace of Nazi collaborator Stepan Bandera. Zelensky banning opposition parties in Ukraine.

It's entirely possible to voice criticism of Russia and their actions, while also voicing criticism of Ukraine and their actions (as well as NATO involvement).

It's much more than Russia simply invading Ukraine. There have been decades of political machinations that have led to this. Constant vilification of Russia is intellectual laziness and is the overarching narrative from bad actors. Russia isn't acting like an irrational actor on the world stage, they have their reasons. I'm not saying Russia is completely justified in what they're doing, I'm just saying that there are numerous elements that are generally ignored and when "fringe" outlets write stories on them, it gets painted as Kremlin Propaganda.

https://www.netwargamingitalia.net/forum/resources/george-f-kennan-a-fateful-error.35/ (1997 NYT op-ed by George Kennan, the diplomat who came up with US' Containment Policy against the USSR, and warned against NATO expansion after the fall of the USSR)
Why, with all the hopeful possibilities engendered by the end of the cold war, should East-West relations become centered on the question of who would be allied with whom and, by implication, against whom in some fanciful, totally unforeseeable and most improbable future military conflict?

LOL. this is probably the dumbest take I've read about the Ukraine-Russo conflict to date. Americans will have to go fight the Russians in Europe? why the hell would I sign up to go fight a war for Eurotrash? I guarantee a conflict with Russia will be extremely unpopular here in the states.
