AniHawk said:PSP install base is over 200k by now. Hot Shots Golf and Ridge Racer sold like 55k on their first day (granted, it was launch, but Metal Gear is a big series, and MGS 3 did exceptionally well on its first day).
Broshnat said:Yeah, 10k is pretty poor.
To be honest, both Tales and MGS3 are down on previous versions.
MGS2 did 475k first week and 850k total.
TOD2 did 495k first week and 800k total.
Considering people were saying both MGS3 and TOR will do a million, I think they'll be disappointed.

For a quick comparison, Metal Gear: Ghost Babel did 66k in 3 weeks.
Metal Gear Ac!d did 20% of its initial shipment. MGS 3 did 60%.
I don't think the PSP market is all too saturated, but perhaps the PS fanbase is, with MGS 3, ToR, DQ, PSP, and its other software. I still don't believe MGA's sales are good though.

AniHawk said:Wait, so MGA is launch now?
Amir0x said:The launch window is 2 weeks after a system launches I believe. MGA fits in there.
Broshnat said:I'm not sure what your point is, MGA sales are poor. Dynasty Warriors launched on the same day, is also within the "launch window" and sold 3x the amount and wasn't particularly strong itself.
It's a shame, I'm a big fan of the MGS series.
Broshnat said:Great games like Metal Gear Acid
Broshnat said:I think the next big disappointment will be Resident Evil 4.
I just hope it does well...
Amir0x said:The problem is it's releasing right after the Christmas season. Now this can be good or bad depending on your perspective. The good is that it can avoid the crazy hurricane of great games that came out this season and have more attention focused on itself. The bad news is it's also after the Christmas season... so the major retail business dies down for a few months. I guess the best thing is that there will be a lot of little kids/teens/adults that received money for Christmas that will want to spend it. I hope some of them put it toward Resident Evil 4.
I pre-ordered RE4.

Sales in Japan are extremely poor.
350k MGS3 for a 15M (or more ?) ps2
12K MGA for 200K PSP
looks to be the same ratio (5%)
.

Broshnat said:Erm... "interesting" slant on things. I guess Super Mario 64 DS selling 185k on a 650k userbase (28% attach rate) is pretty good by comparison then![]()
Or 65k from 230k on launch day (which also works to 28%)
I'm sure there are a few pure technophiles who purchased a PSP on impulse, but like most launches I feel that the majority of PSP owners are just either really big videogame fanatics or fanboys. A few others sprinkled in for the sake of not overgeneralizing.
First Shin Sangoku Musou is far more popular that Meta Gear in Japan
Well, I'd guess the extra 30k PSPs have probably been snatched up since then.Galian Beast said:The PlayStation Portable has not had a second shipment of sales, so these games are still selling to the 170k people who already bought systems less than a week ago.

Yeah, I reckon the performance of Tales is a bit disappointing though.
Well, it depends on the source (Symphonia sales range from 300k to 400k). Symphnoa also has the benefit of suprisingly great foreign sales to make up for it's stumble in Japan somewhat.... considering that, it's actually on par with the other PlayStation Tales games.dark10x said:I can't imagine why you'd say that...
It outsold the lifetime sales of Symphonia on GC in just one day. That's pretty good, I'd say, and you know it will continue to sell...
