At this point, which of these two next-gen consoles do you see yourself purchasing? I know it's early, and there are a lot of unknowns still, but what are you thinking at this point?

I'm specifically asking about PS5 / XSX. I know there are other platforms (e.g., PC and Switch), but I'm interested in how the PS5 vs. Xbox race shakes out. I expect PS5 will get the most support, but I know we have a lot of Xbox fans here as well. I'm also curious how many people plan on getting both.

Both, probably at launch. Last time I got two consoles at around same launch windows was the PS3 and Wii. Took me a month to get both because my PS3 was on backorder from a pre-order at Gamestop (didn't get until December sometimes) and the Wii was selling like hotcakes and was so dang hard to find.

Definitely way more excited about this upcoming gen than I was the current gen. I just hope Sony makes backwards compatibility all the way back to PS1.

Should add an option for Neither as well. There's going to have to be an absolutely killer exclusive at this point to get me to buy either one of them. The tech doesn't matter to me anymore, now it's the games.

I expect PS5 to have the more interesting third party content, but I could be wrong MS is making some big moves, but Sony still has a pretty incredible stable.

I expect Xbox may have a hardware advantage, but if they continue to put all their first party titles out on PC, I'm probably going to go that route for my MS games and general graphics whoring. Especially since I'm a VR enthusiast, I always have a pretty solid gaming PC.

Pretty premature for this poll, we know next to nothing about the most important part, software.
That being said, on the assumption that both machines have games I want to play then I'd buy both consoles.
No idea how people wouldn't buy both

I would've chose both but XSX is a wait and see for me. I didn't like Halo 5 Guardians or Hellblade 1

I need to see their roadmap of games at E3

At launch neither. I know in time I'm going to buy both of them, but I'm probably going to buy the PS5 first. Microsoft bought a lot of studios I like and I can't take much more of the Sony formula, so maybe that will change by the time they launch.

Both if I get into console gaming the upcoming generation, XS imported through Amazon as I'd like a NA BD/UHD player.
PS5 EU model, more games that interests me so rather not wear out the disc-head too much and only use it for gaming.
Both consoles interests me, the power, tech, the design and games of course.

I'm expecting Sony to blow the lid off at the PS5 reveal by either showing Spider-man, HZD or GoW

After the Xbox One I was leaning heavily towards the PS5 because I thought the PS4 was much better, but with the recent developments for Xbox game studios and the possibility of having a stronger console I'll have to wait and see, but I'm in the middle and impartial to both. So far I'm more excited for the games I've seen for Series X

how do you know? you dont even know what the other studios will announce
True, but I never had any interest in the games those other studios ever released.

And going by each gen, Xbox always only had 2 or 3 games I was interested in.

OG Xbox: Jade Empire

360: Gears seemed cool, Blue Dragon

Xbone: Ori, Scalebound (which got canceled)

Meanwhile, 80-90% of my games library since PS1 have been Playstation exclusives. Countless games.

Next-gen won't ever change that.
I also never really buy multiplatform games except games like BF or Dark Souls (which started as a PS exclusive with Demon's Souls and Bloodborne was exclusive again).

Playstation offers far more diversity and completely different sort of games than Xbox in a much higher quantity and quality.

Cool if people want to spend a couple hundred dollars for a handfull of games, I'd rather use it to buy more games or groceries or something.

Also, in my 36 years, only 3 people I (used to) hang out with owned either an OG Xbox or a 360, none owned a Xbone.
Everybody else is on PlayStation.

So, yeah...

Both. I have 166 Xbox games on my hard drive and some games will play even better than the x does.

PS5 because I want to play Bloodbourne at 60fps and hopefully it will eventually have PS3 BC so I can get most of my 150 game PS3 collection back in rotation. Also maybe my PSVR will still work.

Won't Hellblade be on PC too? All MS games will be on PC going forward......
I also don't like PC gaming.
Don't even own a PC for years.
Never use it. Used to have a laptop, but it broke down and never bothered to buy a new one.

I can do everything on my smartphone and if I need to use a PC, I use my son's laptop. 🤷🏾‍♂️

Wow, neogaf is sony-fanboy heaven :(
Or we just prefer the PS exclusives, stop pushing the console war narrative.
As for the poll probably PS5 and we'll see about the XSX , its much too early to tell but with gamepass on PC and MS porting over a lot of there games to PC it'll be a hard for me to buy a XSX for exclusives we don't really know much about.
Bigger factor is time, I don't have the time I used too so time management for gaming is a thing and having multiple consoles just eats into it too much.

Ps5 if it has backwards compatibility in like 2 years or so. Mostly because of fan SOUND pollution via the ps4 pro.

My last Microsoft console was the 360 and I would have gotten an Xbox One at launch if the messaging wasn't so confusing.

I've only went with PS4 this generation because it was the least "inoffensive" system. There was 1st party and 3rd party exclusives right off the bat, even though I did come to hate some of Sony's later policies like forcing paid online.

To convince me to get an Xbox again, Microsoft has to stop being second fiddle. Trying to sell a console on just power and multiplatform games alone is horrendously boring. Especially with a lot of games being available on PC at the same time where I can play them at higher FPS and better graphics.

Look at what SEGA did when they were in the console space. They were selling both their own games and cool hardware to go with it. Microsoft hasn't filled such a void IMO.

Even dropping Kinect was a bad idea. At least try and do SOMETHING that makes you stand out in the space instead of just being another boring box that relies on power.

And I'm not against Microsoft being in the console space. Competition is very important. It's just that they haven't really made an impact since they first entered the industry in 2001.

I'm really rooting for Microsoft. I think they are taking some steps to right some big wrongs and I hope they see some success from it.

That said, their IPs don't really resonate with me and spending an entire generation with mediocre first party games doesn't motivate me to rush to buy their next console. I have an X here I can use any time I want, and even while free and available, I use it quite rarely. The PS5 on the other hand is all but guaranteed to satisfy.

Both for me. I love getting new "toys" and I'm sure stuff will inevitably come along that I want to play on either. My preference is leaning towards XSX right now. I'm tired of Sony style games, XGS seems to have more variety for me, and I like to support the underdog. Plus the Series X looks cool and my controllers will all work on it. My best friend grabbed an X along with me, his brothers went and got S's and we've all had a blast even with games many like to poopoo. They lack the freedom I do (children, finances), and they're planning on going XSX only. We used to all be very invested in PS but over the last year its been quite different. I can't wait for full reveals on tech and games and roadmaps for both though.

I know this is a double post but also check out this thread. It's not fanboyism, there was even a time people thought Sony was going to be dead this decade.

PS4 obviously sold a shit ton so it's no surprise if PS5 might be people's first choice unless something changes.

Ps5 no question.
Will be thrilled if bc goes back to ps1.
I have over 350 games on ps4 because I have been psplus user and got every monthly game. Plus the insane sales. My backlog on ps4/3/2/1 and pc is never ending.
To have the ps library in one console would rock.

Own gaming pc and switch so no reason for Xbox.

PS5 day one, there's no way I'm missing out on the chance for Bloodbourne 2 and whatever remake Blue Point are currently working on along side the other great exclusives in the pipe line.

Xbox Series X a bit later down the line, MS really screwed up with exclusives this generation so I want to see how that all goes with them before I get one. Hellblade 2 is definitely a great reason to get one, but one game a winning console does not make.

Both day one as always. Also people leaning more towards PS and not Xbox is understandable and not "fanboyism" because the PS got the bigger share of fanbase

Sony doesn't exactly make Japanese games anymore. Their focus for the future is western 3rd person games sadly. But Bloodborne 2 would be great yes.
