Heh, half of those would have been in the text version too.

I mean, its also spoiling
machines building kingdoms
. I mean sure, he needed somehing to talk about and i understand, but all the pleasure in this game is discovering things by yourself, this kind of takes off from it. Had to immediately write a couple of ally friends to be careful about it.

Still, it's all on me, as i skipped every other review in fear of spoilers and then caved in on Ben's because they're usually spoilers free.

I'm sorry you felt spoiled. That's always the worst feeling. Has happened to me with Zelda a few times.

I did try to be very conscious of it, but there were definitely things I felt compelled to talk about that I didn't want to dance around. I do think the things discussed/shown are relatively safe without context.

Don't worry, i'm also overreacting because i'm about to end
Route A and i literally just saw the Goliath die
, so i'm completely passionate about it.

Still, as i said i had to tell a couple of friends to stay away from it, because they are completely blind about the game and i want them to experience it by their own, so sorry if i'm taking away a couple of views!

Also, did you really
attack the machines in the amusement park
? You monster.

I would recommend saving often in Nier cause the game can crash.

I recommend that too because not necessarily because of crashing but I believe it cause I encountered minor bugs in the latter part of my playthrough like my map totally greying out and not really displaying anything.

But there are other things that can happen to you gameplay wise that make it very recommendable to save often.
Aji o kutta lost me like a good 1-2 hours of progress.

Cheering on Brad so hard to finish Nier. Nier:A would be an amazing game to have an in depth discussion on and nobody should feel like the time has passed on something.
Huber wisdom: Just bring it back the ship is docked.

I did before I realized they weren't a threat. But yeah, monster indeed.

Ben's best review. Solid, yet passionate.

Too bad i still have to finish Zelda & NioH, still to start Horizon and Danganronpa reload just arrived.
But I'll get there, Nier looks too amazing.
Good thing I'm not a Mass Effect fan and have no interest there 😅

It's not a difficult game. However, there is no auto-saving, which is something you need to be very aware of.

The story is very well told. You have to be okay with not understanding everything right away, but yes, it's well presented. It all comes together.

Thank you (and Holundrian) for the reply! It'll help me make that "what's next then" choice for sure.

Brandon hitting them Automata Ts hard

Just wrapped up the podcast after starting it the other day, that Styx comment is incredible. And I think Ben is actually in a better spot for the bet than the other Allies. Pretty much anything over 50k and he's got it, and all you need for that is one or two big streamers deciding to go in on launch day.

I bought it but haven't had time to get to it. I'm so obsessed finishing up the Y0 plat y_y(I just love the game so much and I'm so unbelievably close too only left the 100k points in fantasy zone which is close to breaking me and the legend playthrough which has been pretty easy but slow cause everything is skippable).

When you get to play it I'd definitely like to hear your impressions. Also, the beginning is good, but not as much as the rest of the game. Try to at least fight the second boss and get to the third area.

EDIT: 1.2k subs in 4 days on Youtube to reach 100k. It's hard but doable.

They're gonna break 100k by the end of the month anyway though.

Well, the ME:A vibe not being where I want it to go, Horizon not being the game I want to play right after BotW to give it a chance without the genre and somewhat tone overlap playing against it and my playthrough of FFXV feeling more like a chore than a pleasure (I got it as a gift, I'm only 10h in I guess, I dislike nearly EVERYTHING about it so far); that review seems to be pointing me at my next game. It left me with two questions though: is it a difficult game and is the story, although convoluted, engaging and told well enough to keep players in?

Looking forward to Blood's ME:A review though, facial animations do not make or break a game after all.

Yea, I'd definitely give Horizon some breathing room before jumping into it post BotW. I know they are wildly different games but some game design aspects are similar enough (in a contrasting sort of way) that I wish I had waited a bit longer post-Horizon before playing BotW. Maybe taken that time to finish up Nier or something before jumping full swing into BotW.

35 hours into BotW right now and just personally, I know for a fact that Horizon has ruined some of the enjoyment I would've gotten out of BotW.

I got spoiled some things, but that's on me. If I didn't want to know some gameplay features, I shouldn't be watching a review.

Yeah that's my philosophy as well. If you're wanting to go in completely blind don't watch previews or reviews. Especially with the Allies, it's disappointing to see one of the first few comments about such a well done review be complaints about small spoilers.

Another great review Ben. Sorry to see people whining about small spoilers, don't let that get you own.

Now questioning a reviewer's definition of spoilers on valid points (because some things definitely weren't small, hell it's some thigs that weren't even mentioned in pre-release marketing) count as whining?

It's not like i called out Ben for being a bad reviewer, hell he did an amazing job like always, encompassing all the important points of the game.
I simply disagree on specifically touched on topics because i think mentioning them ruins the surprise. Then again maybe i'm overreacting because i'm playing the game right now and am extra sensitive to it.

Plus, i openly admitted it's also my fault for caving in and watching the review, but i must say most of the reviews i've seen kept those elements out.

I think that while we try to avoid spoilers, you're always at the biggest risk watching while you're part way through a game. Stuff that seems completely random to a person who hasn't played like me, can be seen completely differently if you're in the thick of it.

Kind of disappointed in the Automata review, because it spoils
9S scanning and A2 berserk
which i had no idea of, but also because it showed me a fight against
Engels
and
A2 fighting in Pascal's village
as i have not yet reached those points, damn :/

Sure, these do not mean much without context (especially in a Yoko Taro game), but still now i'll just know they will appear at some point.

I don't understand why you'd want to watch an in depth video review of a game you don't want to know anything about...

All the discussion about spoilers just make me want a Spoilercast even more.
I want unchained discussions about the games, without any restraint.

Wait for a good number of allies to play through a game and record something with everyone that played it. Right after Bosman beats XV I think would be a perfect time for a FFXV spoilercast. You can even discuss slightly older games (Witcher 3 and DLCs for example).

I know you guys do a lot already, but I think its an idea that plenty of us think its good and doable.

Talking about things I'd love to see from the allies, I've recently been sucked in to the pokemon TCG and attended a tournament last week with a bunch of friends and it was super fun. I'd love to see them build decks and play each other.
I am very aware it can be an expensive hobby though :B

Is askeasyallies@gmail.com specific for FT or the Podcast too? Just to know if i have to send my question to a second address.

Yeah that's totally legit, i admitted it myself, i just think that some of those were wider spoilers.
But i'll shut up about this, don't want to turn this into a debate about what is spoiler and what is not, again i loved Ben's review as always
although i hoped he'd give it 5stars :p

The EZA Podcast takes questions from the Patreon. Every week they post, usually a day or two before recording, asking for L&R questions.

I think they've used that email for a few other things occasionally (TTE fanart) but it's mostly for Frame Trap questions.

Email is for FT, podcast is from a weekly post on Patreon called "This Week in L&R".

Regarding Nier review -- it does seem slightly odd to go so far into detail in in a review about all the characters, what their names/personalities are and what kind of moves they do.

Also Jones' pronunciation of automata felt extra careful which made it feel really off, lol.

I didn't go into tremendous detail though? I thought it was a fairly brief overview and since playing as such different characters was a large point of praise, it deserved explanation.

I also feel like comparing and contrasting major characters is pretty fair game, especially if the story is a major element.

As someone who hasn't followed the game's development and marketing, I didn't feel spoiled at all.

I guess it heavily depends on what you know about the game beforehand and what you saw through official pre-release material.

It's honestly fine, people are being super nit picky ITT...

I liked the Nier review; I certainly didn't have the same issues with it that I did the Final Fantasy XV review (which I found undermined key issues with the title). Though I've never played a game in the Drakengard/Nier series, I think I'll pick it up on PC later on and watch a synopsis or "Catch-up" video online.

One of my greatest fears was that the world would be too large without making good use of the world for activities and settlements. It's touched on in the review, but I'm still not certain (fair enough I'm sure that'd go into spoiler territory). I also played the PS4 demo and had a nice time with the combat. That's never a bad thing!

I know they mentioned to suggest some cool weird things we would like to see from them in the future. I have an idea!

Board games!

Id love to see the Allies huddle around a table once a month and play a game of Catan, Betrayal, or any of the other awesome board games out there.
It's a bit challenging to shoot video games. You would need at least a ceiling cam and preferably two cameras for the people. You need to make sure that the board always reads on cam and edit the video between the board and the people in a way that makes sense.
Now that's just for the setup. You also need to pick games that are easy to follow/read on cam as well as facilitate or gives room to conversation/chatter.

Having said all that I did send them a card game that I hope they play :p

I'm kind of a fan of the rp game mafia(the one where you have town roles and the mafia and where people try to lynch the mafia before town becomes too weak to lynch them and dies out) but it depends on if the group can get into it. It's super fun though the better people know each other and the more rounds are played as people learn each other ticks.
You should try The Resistance if you haven't. It's like Mafia but with more game.

Frankly, I'm of the opinion that if you're even remotely sensitive to spoilers, you shouldn't be checking out reviews of a game you're interested in. There's simply no possible way for a reviewer to deliver a concise yet informative analytical piece all the while accounting for all the varying levels of what people consider spoilers.

There were a number of complaints being thrown around the time The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was reviewed stating they didn't want to know beforehand that towns were present or that a certain mechanic was in the game. I can understand being annoyed with an in-depth explanation or reveal, but it's utterly absurd when people expect no new information aside from what was demonstrated in the initial reveal of the game.

This week's podcast was on fire the entire time, goddamn. I laughed way too hard the whole thing, but the last 15-20 minutes were something else.

I don't personally care much about spoilers. It just felt like elaborating on details that don't need to be said in a review format... or that might be better left discovered by the players themselves while playing the game. Surely the combat and the variety/lack there of could have been described without including the characters by name or the specific traits they have.

The promotional material seems to mostly just feature one playable character, I imagine it would have been a cool moment to suddenly discover you get to play as someone else.

Hey, good review!

Ben were you aware you had right analog aiming during
hacking
? or was that just odd footage?
Also nice showcase of the game's awesome ost.

I've always thought many GT and now EZA reviews suffer from the common problem of simply explaining games rather than offering any particularly personal or unique insight. Just my opinion but i think a game as surprising and unorthodox as nier isn't really suited to this style of review.

This is interesting and I'd like to hear more because specifically in regards the story the review offers an interpretation of the events rather than a simple explanation, which seems like exactly what you want?

I may not be using the word "I" but is very much my take on the themes.

Finally beat Dark Souls III, haha. Anyone remember if there was a Frame Trap that went in depth on it? If there was I would have skipped that discussion at the time but now can go back

Listened to the portion of the podcast in question (RE: KF) and was sorely disappointed. Was hoping for some real drama or shade but it was just "that's not what this podcast is about, moving on." Don't think anything Ian said, like "don't care who they are or what they say" was meant seriously.

Meh. No controversy.

(I say this as someone who casually "supports" Colin.)
