Something just occurred to me....

One year later and there is STILL no "Must Be Nice" shirt for sale

How dare you miss this highly profitable opportunity for business making! Shame!
Yep I've been wanting this for quite a while secretly hoping for a shadow drop.

Yep I've been wanting this for quite a while secretly hoping for a shadow drop.
It was brought up in the launch stream when they were asking about ideas for designs

A while later they had two designs they were asking Patrons about

Then it came back up months later (maybe even 6 months) and they joked maybe they'd make one super expensive shirt and limit it to 1 only

Kind of insane that stuff like "Destined To Die" got shirts and Must Be Nice didn't haha

It ain't right!

Hey there friends! New Ally (Allie?) here, coming as a result of some of the changes in the KF community, and wanting a new weekly gaming podcast. I'm really enjoying the EZA podcast, so much that I've become a $5/month Patron. I do have a couple of questions, though.

1. Is there an RSS feed for the audio? This feature on other Patreons is a godsend, because it shows right up in the podcast app.
1a. If not, on iPhone, is there a way to get the links to actually open up in the Soundcloud app? I tried today and it kept erroring out.

2. What's the release schedule for the pods? It seems like EZA posts Wednesday for non-Patrons, Friday for normals? Is Frame Trap really bi-weekly?

3. What's the best other content? I typically don't get a whole lot out of watching other people play games, but I would love to hear more from some of these guys to better get to know them and their tastes. The whole "4 or 5 people on an hour-long show" thing prevents me from really deep diving with them the same way I might on a 2 or 3 person episode of another show.

Thanks, Allies! Looking forward to being a part of this new community, especially since I never even touched the GameTrailers content (except for some of those bets that got threaded in Gaming).

Welcome!

1. Not sure, sorry

2. EZA Podcast Wednesday nights for Patrons, Friday for non. Frame Trap is indeed every other monday

3. I strongly recommend Fiasconauts, it's my favorite content from them. It's a tabletop game where every episode is completely self contained, and they basically make an improv movie. There's like 30-45 minutes of setup and then around 2 hours for the game itself. It's amazing. You might enjoy Huber Syndrome and Easy Update as well if you're looking for randomness and learning more about them. Easy Update is extremely free-form and "whatever Ian feels like for the week" though, so its likely you'll dig some and won't others

If you've never checked out GT content The Final Bosman cannot be recommended enough. Amazing show.

I'll leave it there so others can chime in. Welcome aboard

Dunno about RSS/Soundcloud stuff, but yeah, podcast is Wednesday for Patrons, Friday for non-Patrons, Frame Trap is every other Monday. Tuesday night group streams are always fun, and while TTE is fantastic, I'd definitely recommend dipping your toes in first with some always-incredible Fiasconauts that don't have an interconnected plot over one million hour-long episodes. All the streams are good for getting to know the streamer and what they're about -- they're good at keeping up the conversation with chat while playing -- but what you can catch live will probably influence that a lot.

Also don't know if it's the reflection or not, but ya'll need some Windex on this puppy.

Started playin Danganronpa Reload (1) yesterday. Seems like good fun, but damn... that collection will bomb so triple-hyper-hard going off the talk on GAF...hint: there is none lol. But I guess the fanbase already bought it on Vita anyway. Still, I am really happy I get a chance to try it out. In my book these kind of ports are a blessing on the PS4.

Luke_Wal: make sure to check out Don's Disount Gaming, it's my favorite show of theirs. Tabletop Escapades is also just amazing, but takes several eps to get going

I'd like to believe its so fingerprinty because they were goofing around trapping each other inside like contained zombie...

there's no Styx: Shards of Darkness review in the works? everybody adores Styx

also boo @ the new Huber Syndome. he says good riddance to the console but then says it has some of his favorite games of all time on it? it sounds like he just decided to stop playing games on it. there's a decent amount of GREAT games on there I think he just never got around to :\

All the podcasts work fine on my Podcast Addict app, so I'm gonna say yes. Not really sure how it works though.

I'll also recommend Don's Discount Gaming and Fiasconauts. Also, if you're a Pokemon fan (lapsed or otherwise) you'll probably enjoy the Brandon Plays Pokemon (Red) series from last year.

3) I love all their stuff. But for shows, Don's discount gaming. Outside the two podcasts I also highly recommend you watch Tabletop Escapades and Fiasconauts. Even if you don't care for D&D the way this crew does it is great and compelling. Both show the range, creativity, and hilarity of the crew. For streams definitely check out the Tuesday group stream archives. They're up on the stream archive YT channel. http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLX7CQOTnV_M35rbnhHyMHLrUXQlG71zef

.

Other people have mentioned the other stuff already so I'll just say to check out the monthly Q&As as well. It's 2+ hours each month of the entire group (usually) answering questions put to them by patrons. Feels like this covers the part about getting to know them and their tastes better a bit.

While I appreciate that you're busy, doing a Zelda review (ie reviewing one game) should not be taking up that much of your time. I don't have an insight into how much time a game review is taking at EZA but, seeing other reviews being done by other reviewers or even by you in the past seems to point that a review can be done much faster. I don't mean to sound like a dick, but you're a full time employee and for many being a full time employee means working full time seven or eight hours a day. On top of that, while you do have streams you currently have no other show on air for the Allies (apart from Game Sleuth but we'll get to that) and so it would seem you'd even have more time than many others. I know you're the streaming IT guy for EZA as well, which definitely takes up some time but you can see how it seems like the above paragraph of why GS couldn't happen is harder to believe. I do appreciate that I 100% sound like an asshole telling you how to schedule your day without actually even knowing you in person to know what your day looks like but from an outsiders perspective this is what it seems like, which is why some of the posters suggest to have updates up on stuff like GS to know what is going on (these are actually the type of content that is personality driven and easy to produce). I suppose the burden is higher on you as you are, like Ben and Jones, a full time employee and the GS was one of the higher patreon goals.

I had to come back to this post because I missed it yesterday but man, WTF? He just posted a freaking update in this very thread, you launched straight into criticising his time management (including criticising the time he dedicated to a really high profile review that had a tight deadline) and then after saying all this, you turn around and say "that's why you should post more updates." What? Why? So he can give you even more detailed accounts for you to criticise him over?!

I hate it when this thread gets super entitled and starts criticising things that are absolutely none of our business. Also see: The debate over how they use their Patron funds last year. Making suggestions is fine but shit like this is toxic.

And speaking of suggestions, I think holding Game Sleuth episodes back and making a month-long season out of it like Don's Discount Gaming is a cool idea. If anything, I'd do that with all of EZA's series. Shows like Brandon Sun Kyle Moon would've worked so much better with that kind of release schedule, even if each episode was filmed months apart.

Yeah, Mario007 has a weird hate thing for Damiani. I've just ignored it recently, but that post is weird considering it's directed at him.

It does seem a little weird at this point and I don't really understand why.

Games Sleuth is a Patreon tier (that was achieved early on). If it's one of the reasons you're pledging, then voice your criticism in a reasonable way through the numerous channels they have. If you still feel like nothing happens, you're free to drop your pledge or stop funding the Patreon altogether. No one should give you a hard time for that. It's a value-for-value model after all and if you don't feel like you're the value out of your pledge, then drop it.

But to criticize an individual over and over again, basically telling them how they're supposed to do their work, despite doing a pretty good job for long, long time now and knowingly voicing it in a disrespectful manner on top of it? You definitely get to a point where you ask yourself what the fuck is wrong with that person.

Yeah, the last few days have been full of pretty critical posts but I feel like they've been specific, polite and constructive. That one did stand out to me but I didn't really wanna quote it to give it more exposure. It's pretty rude and arrogant.

There is podcast RSS feeds. You can subscribe to them on iTunes and probably find the feeds from there, I think by right clicking while using a PC. Or maybe hitting the little "i" for more information from your podcast list.

I know they mentioned to suggest some cool weird things we would like to see from them in the future. I have an idea!

Board games!

Id love to see the Allies huddle around a table once a month and play a game of Catan, Betrayal, or any of the other awesome board games out there.

Aw man, Secret Hitler or Battlestar Galactica w/the Allies? That'd be superb.

I'm kind of a fan of the rp game mafia(the one where you have town roles and the mafia and where people try to lynch the mafia before town becomes too weak to lynch them and dies out) but it depends on if the group can get into it. It's super fun though the better people know each other and the more rounds are played as people learn each other ticks.

Cornhole would also make a pretty good stream :-x

Edit: Is Blood keeping a list for goty ost? Cause just wondering what's on there yet currently. Gotta be sure that Nier:A is on there I think :-x

I think the only review I really disagree with Ben is Zero Time Dilemma.

There are a few reviews that I wish I could go back and not necessarily change the score to, but change how certain arguments are presented. Probably just the nature of being a critic or writer of any sort. Zero Time Dilemma is one of those. There were pretty big things that I either didn't address or glossed over.

After all the drama with KF this week, I gotta say watching this week's EZA podcast is everything I needed. Not dissing KF or their content or anything, this just cheered me up :D

At the risk of sounding a little loopy, I gotta say that as soon as they mentioned Mountain Dew Baja Blast, it made me simultaneously daydream about a Tropical Freeze sequel, and think about the Jet Moto X Mtn Dew bottle situation from Final Bosman. These two things should not be thought about at the same time. It makes your brain go to dangerous places.

Ben you're a machine reviewing all these games--how do you do it? Are you doing P5 as well in a month? christ

Thinking Nier will be my next game, looks great.. Hope it doesn't hurt me too much that I never played original Nier. Still have a ways to go on BotW in terms of side stuff so hopefully I can find Automata on sale in a bit

Well, the ME:A vibe not being where I want it to go, Horizon not being the game I want to play right after BotW to give it a chance without the genre and somewhat tone overlap playing against it and my playthrough of FFXV feeling more like a chore than a pleasure (I got it as a gift, I'm only 10h in I guess, I dislike nearly EVERYTHING about it so far); that review seems to be pointing me at my next game. It left me with two questions though: is it a difficult game and is the story, although convoluted, engaging and told well enough to keep players in?

Looking forward to Blood's ME:A review though, facial animations do not make or break a game after all.

It's not a difficult game. However, there is no auto-saving, which is something you need to be very aware of.

The story is very well told. You have to be okay with not understanding everything right away, but yes, it's well presented. It all comes together.

Gravity Rush 2

Nier: Automata
Persona 5

Hollow Knight has a beautifully sad soundtrack.

Speaking of which, I wanna congratulate whoever it was that plugged Hollow Knight on the podcast, I was thinking about doing it myself. It's a game that has the potential to be liked by pretty much all the Allies, being an awesome mix of metroidvania and souls-like mechanics and structure.

Honestly it's the 2D best metroidvania I've ever played, surpassing even Super Metroid, andi it's second only to Metroid Prime if you count 3D stuff as well.

It's that good.

Ian, Brad, Huber and Ben could find many throwbacks to the Souls series, even though the fighting is much more simple. Bonus points for Ian because it shares similarities to SotN's structure and it builds his story through lore, interactions with other characters and explorations of the zones, making you comprehend the world naturally, as you travel through, without info dumps or cutscenes.

Blood could appreciate the marvelous, yet subtle soundtrack and the metroid-like progression of exploring the depths of the earth.

Kyle would love the game's contextualization of EVERYTHING. Seriously, everything is explained or explainable in this game, you find certain things in certain places due to a reason, areas that aren't connected but that are physically near one another share many little traits, the enemies are designed around the places they're in, heck, even the map is explained and works inside the lore of the game. Context is king in Hollow Knight.

Add to this the stellar hand-drawn art-style.

It's my current GotY, together with Zelda.

Kind of disappointed in the Automata review, because it spoils
9S scanning and A2 berserk
which i had no idea of, but also because it showed me a fight against
Engels
and
A2 fighting in Pascal's village
as i have not yet reached those points, damn :/

Sure, these do not mean much without context (especially in a Yoko Taro game), but still now i'll just know they will appear at some point.

Damn, already looking really forward to the best soundtrack discussion this year.
If Ni no Kuni 2 makes it this year I also have a strong feeling that it will make the list as well with Hisashi at its helm.

It's also worth mentioning Nier:A is a game where you have to invest into the story. That means payback on it will scale with the amount of time you spend digging into stuff and ruminating on it. I did my best and missed quite a bit of stuff. But it's really interesting how everything connects thematically and narratively.
---------------------
Yeah liked the review. I haven't read every single Nier review out there(so take it with a grain of salt) but it certainly went over stuff I haven't seen yet.
Stuff like the overly generous dodge. It's my one sticking point with the combat I wouldn't call it a flaw but it certainly trivializes an insanely large part of the game and then becomes so mandatory it like ~3 fights or so.

I bought it but haven't had time to get to it. I'm so obsessed finishing up the Y0 plat y_y(I just love the game so much and I'm so unbelievably close too only left the 100k points in fantasy zone which is close to breaking me and the legend playthrough which has been pretty easy but slow cause everything is skippable).

Heh, half of those would have been in the text version too.

I mean, its also spoiling
machines building kingdoms
. I mean sure, he needed somehing to talk about and i understand, but all the pleasure in this game is discovering things by yourself, this kind of takes off from it. Had to immediately write a couple of ally friends to be careful about it.

Still, it's all on me, as i skipped every other review in fear of spoilers and then caved in on Ben's because they're usually spoilers free.
