"Economy set for Best Growth in 20 years #1"

Because once you're at the bottom, the only way to go is up!

But if this year's growth ends up a bit faster than that, it will be the best since the economy roared ahead at a 7.2 percent rate in 1984, a year when another Republican president — Ronald Reagan — was running for re-election.

"We are moving into a sweet spot for the economy with interest rates not too high, jobs coming back and business investment providing strength," said Diane Swonk, chief economist at Bank One in Chicago, who is predicting GDP growth of 4.8 percent this year.
Great news!

My eyes hurt, because every time I hear about the election focusing on the economy, they roll. The president has little to do with the economy. Alan Greenspan has more influence. The natural sinusoidal frequency of the market has more influence.

The most influential thing a president can do is declare war, but that wouldn't matter because even democratic leaders agree that they would have declared war on Iraq. Clinton said he would have in an interview with Larry King, but just a few months later than Bush did.

The last president to really spur up the economy was FDR.

And he didn't, really. World War II did it for him. He made tons of Government programs that shifted things just enough, but WWII really spurred things forward.

Yeah that certainly helped.

The emphasis on the economy in presidential elections reminds me of RAM. People spend over a hundred dollars more for RAM because of timings because they think they're getting a lot more performance. When in reality, the worst timings are only about 2% slower than the best. The best thing you can do with RAM is to buy higher bandwidth, overclock, and reap real benefits from higher memory bandwidth and higher cpu clockspeed.
