Eddie Van Halen Has Died

I hope Michael Anthony and DLR (and you too, Sammy) get over their rough past and remember Eddie when they were still buddies. I know it was a dick move to kick Michaeal Anthony out of the band and put Eddie's kid in it instead (hence the first album not even having his shots anymore a couple of years ago). But the Van Halen band was altogether a magical thing no matter who was in charge of the vocals.

Not a big fan of his music, but as a fan of everything electric guitar related, it's impossible to not respect what he did.

Two guys changed the electric guitar forever: first Jimi and then Eddie.

Rest In Peace.

Metallica, Van Halen, and many other musicians had their music blasted at Manuel Noriega and brought him down.

Growing up in the 80s and Hot for Teacher came out. Age is getting to me, don't quite remember my history teachers name but I do remember how she looked and her British accent.

I agree but if I hear Not Enough I will probably cry a lot today. VH and Pink Floyd were my mom's favorite bands and a lot of VH tunes remind me of her.

My mom's a lost cause on music, but I did manage to make my dad like Van Halen more than he used to. Dad's a huge Zeppelin fan and he didn't think much of 80's hard rock. Hard not to be a fan when you put on some Fair Warning or 1984.

Sad that a piece of my childhood is gone, an embodyment of the 80s. :pie_crying: One of the greatest talents in their genre that ever lived. Rock radio stations should play a Van Halen song every hour for the next week.

He was given piano lessons as a child before the family moved to America when he was seven years old, settling in Pasadena California.

'We showed up here with the equivalent of $50 and a piano,' Eddie Van Halen told The Associated Press in 2015. 'We came halfway around the world without money, without a set job, no place to live and couldn't even speak the language.'

He said his earliest memories of music were banging pots and pans together, marching to John Philip Sousa marches. At one point, Eddie got a drum set, which his older brother coveted.

'I never wanted to play guitar,' he confessed at a talk at the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History in 2015. But his brother was good at the drums, so Eddie gave into his brother's wishes: 'I said, 'Go ahead, take my drums. I'll play your damn guitar.'

After his band were signed to Warner Bros Records producer Ted Templeman said: 'There were like 11 people in the audience, and they were playing like they were at the Forum.'

After recording the band's debut album aged 22 Van Halen are said to have trashed their hotel room in Scotland when they heard it had gone gold in the US.

Such a waste that they couldn't all put their differences aside and make something of the last couple of years of his life.

I dunno, David and Eddie got it together enough around 2012 to give us "A Different Kind of Truth". It was magic to see Eddie and his son ripping together with Roth sharing the spotlight. Two tracks worth giving a go are -

And if these songs don't get you pumped and ready to go then we can't be friends and party together.

What time is it?
The link in the OP wasn't working so I was hoping it was a false report. Didn't realize he was battling cancer. At least he can jam with Jimi and Stevie. RIP Legend.

I was watching GT racing at the weekend and one of the drivers had his car wrapped to look like frankenstrat, it made me have a quick listen. I'd forgotten how much I liked You really got me.

That's terrible. Even recently he's looked so young and vital. He could still play just as well as he did thirty years ago.
