Its funny because thats what would happen in your thread whenever I posted about trance. And apparently what happens to ilnadmy judging by a post in there saying he's lonely.

And yea, thank you for trying "really fucking hard" to stay so civil. We all appreciate it so much. It would have been more beneficial if you had tried really fucking hard to just stay out.
You just wish they would be honest and state 'I don't like this thread or the music posted so I'm going to criticize it' rather than hiding behind utterly false, seemingly benign and mature reasons for continuing the argument.

Majority (at least half, if not more) of my posts get ignored on there as well. Sometimes I get a bit fired up about it if it's something I really believe in, but most of the time I just let it go. If you're taking it personally that no-one's reacting to your posts, I apologise. But considering you've only made ~40 posts in an 11,000 post thread (with your last one being almost a year and a half ago), you shouldn't take it personally.

I'm pretty sure only one person criticized it, and only then because they didn't understand the definition of "EDM" as taken in this thread and were surprised to find other types of electronic music not represented. But if you feel like this is one big hate-fest, you might want to re-read over some of the posts here. I know I certainly haven't picked on *any* musical tastes in this thread.

I'm happy to leave it there, agree to disagree or whatever. But if folks in this thread are falling back on "why don't you just admit you don't like what's being posted in here" or somesuch, then it's no wonder such a divide will continue on rather than everyone coexisting in both threads.

Hilarious. You are up at arms and causing arguments because we may at some point prove dismissive to some hypothetical person who should be posting in your thread.

All the while creating a real argument in the here and now.

You realize how crazy that sounds?

That has already happened in here, so it's not really a hypothetical. It's been made clear that "bleep bloop" music has no place in this thread after a few brought it up, asked about it, etc. They were told to head back to the other thread. I'd say that constitutes being dismissive, and there's certainly a reason to want to avoid that in the future to make it easier on everyone.

I feel like you're the only one at this point who can't see both sides here. Everyone had mostly settled onto the same page and acknowledged the potential confusion, and then you had to come along and post something snarky in response to Shaneus. Give it a rest.

I didn't take it personally, I just figured you guys didn't like trance and made my own trance thread. I was just pointing it out because of what I bolded in your post.

No dude, nobody just "brought it up, asked about" bleep bloop music. If someone was to come in and say "hey guys, I like this music, take a listen", without yelling at us for making this thread or being elitist, that would be fine. I don't remember that ever happening. If that did, I apologize and would like to see the post.

Argh, guys! Lets not argue! This OP of this thread is incredibly clear about what this thread is all about, and even links to the other thread for people to check out, if that's more up their alley. I don't think anyone here is going to ridicule anyone if what they post is a little off the beaten path, but everyone in this thread understands a need for an alternate community so let's get back to the music!

Favourite Porter Robinson track, jam of the century: Vandalism

Awesome more mellow/vocal track by Thomas Gold and Dirty South: Alive

Best Stars Come Out remix so far: Lazy Rich Remix

DJ Mag's Top 100 Nightclubs!

Seattle checking in at #55 worldwide. Not bad since the place opened in September. Even beat out TAO.

Guvernment (they messed up the name) coming in high at #22, definitely a great atmosphere. AMAZING to see Beta Waterloo even on this list, let alone at #62... Wish they'd bring some more big names back though

1. Omar S - Thank You for Letting Me Be Myself
2. Maxmillion Dunbar - House of Woo
3. Space Dimension Controller - Welcome To Mikrosector-50
4. Prurient - Through the Window
5. Autechre - Exai

I can't even handle trying to keep up with podcasts - I'd never have time to listen to everything. There's just so much content that these artists pump out between live sets, podcasts, other weekly streams, etc...it's crazy.

I guess I could just have it on in the background while I work, but I like to actively listen to things the first time through, and I know I'd miss stuff if it was just on all day while I coded.

I find that a lot of shows repeat music (of course, there's only so much new music), so listening to a podcast once every few weeks or a month seems to work for me. Maybe I'll start to rotate them and listen to one once a week

Week 1: Eric Prydz
Week 2: ASOT
Week 3: W&W
Week 4: Group Therapy?

Can we stop the bullshit and just return to posting things that matter? Thanks.

Anyway a friend of mine just made me aware of this: Illuminite Run 5K which is touring around the country. Most importantly, however, is that after you finish the run everyone that participated gets a private Porter Robinson concert. So stoked.

That's pretty awesome. If it was someone like Armin I might actually train for that.

Who am I kidding, no I wouldn't. I'm lazy as fuck.

I think this thread is a good idea, lots of people first get into electronic music by big anthemic sounds - back in my day, eurodance, Everything But The Girl, "techno" from 2 Unlimited and of course Robert Miles were my introduction to EDM. - people who like this can also check out the long-running "Groundbreaking" thread if they want to explore electronic music further.

I've always straddled the line from the mainstream stuff to the underground stuff (will go from deep tech house to hands-in-the-air trance at the drop of a hat), there's so much good music there who cares if it's played on the main stage at Ultra or in a grimy Brooklyn warehouse?

Anyways, I posted this in the Groundbreaking thread, it's an 8-hour set I did for a fellow GAFfer's house party. It has a wide variety of both commercial and underground stuff in there - a downtempo intro followed by nu-disco, deep house, tech house, prog, all the way to big room EDM anthems. I played for a crowd of people who knew nothing about dance music beyond "Levels" and wanted to expose them to a good variety of the stuff I like.

I churn through five episodes a week doing five gym sessions, but at this point the list is so long that I'm running out of opportunities to listen to them.

Just on iTunes alone, I get the weekly updates from A&B, Gareth Emery, Tritonal, Tiesto, Markus Schulz, Sean Tyas, Ferry Corsten, Andy Moor (more like biweekly), etc.

There's just not enough time in the day!

Soooooooooo good

The Involver series always delivers...such an amazing idea for a mix series. The first one will forever remain my favorite, if not just for this track:
Lostep - Burma (Sasha's Involver Mix)

And on an unrelated note, to the people a few pages back saying that "electronic music" and "electronic dance music" basically mean the same thing: that's an absolutely ridiculous statement. Electronic music that isn't meant for the dance floor is just as relevant and prominent as the stuff that is, if not moreso. If you wanna bitch about semantics, it's the 'E' in EDM that's redundant. More often than not, dance music is electronic by nature. Honestly, I don't care either way though. The term EDM is not something new. I've heard it bandied about ever since I started listening to the stuff, and I've been listening to it for a pretty long time. Just my two cents. I'm more interested on posting tunes.

EDIT: I'm 26.

I don't remember the first songs or groups I had heard, more generally. In the NY/NJ area in the US, a dance station called KTU played a ton of dance music. Most of it US dance/pop variety but they veered into everything at times (80s new wave, techno). I enjoyed it.

However, I do remember the first song that plunged me down the rabbit hole into actively exploring the genre and various sub-genres (including discovering trance <3).

You realize how crazy that sounds?

Shaneus has a point tho. I opened the op, read "Progressive House: Avicii, Swedish House Mafia etc" and was like wtf. Then i read that people consider edm a distinct subgenre of edm and i'm even more like wtf. It's confusing to everyone who isn't a part of the very recent mainstream music scene. Not to mention you make yourself look like fools hijacking terms that have been around and well established for 20 years or more.
It's in everyones interest, lovers and haters, to make it a bit clearer in the thread title what the thread is about. Otherwise trust me these discussions will go on and on.

I was deep into progressive house in the beginning of this century and still listen to some CDs from that time, I guess a lot of you EDMers might like these as well:

VA - Yoshiesque vol. 2 mixed by Deep Dish

Especially CD2 is a classic.

VA - In House We Trust vol. 3, mixed by Luke Fair and Desyn Masiello

VA - Balance 005, mixed by James Holden
