I found this Zinio thing to be too cumbersome, plus after a few months it wouldn't download my mags properly, so I deleted it. They still send me emails about my mags

I get this when "Checking for Magazines":

There was a problem communicating with Zinio.com

If the problem persists, go to Zinio.com/help for further assistance.

Message #139 (SOAP Configuration)

Checked the help section, followed the instructions to no avail. Tried downloading the latest reader but I got frustrated 'cause it wouldn't download. >:(

Dunno, maybe the email was sent a little early and the issue won't be ready for another day or so. It's weird, 'cause it's usually a couple of days after early print subscribers get their copies the digital version is available to download -- and usually by then the scores have been plastered all over the net. Hmmz...

I got it. The first time it tried to download there was some sort of hang up but I resubmited my request and it worked fine. The only other time I've run into a problem with Zino was around the time of the Halo 2 EGM issue. I had to delete my original corrupt file and go back to their site to download the issue again.

Have the scores been posted yet?

DS = Incredibly Average?

RA > Rumble Roses?

Come on the perv factor man... the PERV factor...

See, the Rogue Agent score is exactly the reason why I hardly ever see any credibility in review scores. How could a game that is highly obviously an average game -at best- grab 3 consistent above average scores? Yeah, it is all an opinion, but your standards have to be pretty damn low to score RA so high.

the rumor mill
Def Jam artists get knocked the f*** out
man, oh man, the hip-hop-studded brawler Def Jam Figh for NY packed one helluva punch when it came out this past September. And I was totally hyped for another go-arround in EAlectronic Arts' underground fight club until heard this little piece of gossip: The company is thinking about ditching the expensive Def Jam license and using all fictional pugilists in its next game. No Redman, no Method Man - hope that doesn't equal 'no fun'.

The Fable continues
OK, so Fable isn't the 'greatest role-playing game ever' like its creator once boasted. Still, several Xbox owners (including this one) have picked it up and transformed a younf lad into a legendary hero or ultimate evildoer. Apparently, sales across the globe have been strong enough to warrant a sequel...and all signs point to Fable 2 showing up on Microsoft's Xbox successor.

Big DS news ahead
Now that Nintendo's dual-screen handheld is available for all to enjoy, the big question on everyones' mind is, 'what's next?' Unfotunately, I can't get into specifics right now, but word around Mario's pad is that the company will make some huge (and very surprising) DS announcements near the time of the Playstation Portable launch (which is still on target for March '05)

Control issues
Microsoft made a rather large boo-boo back at the Xbox launch when it released the console with a controller made for wrestler Andre the Giant's monstrous mitts. Luckily, it ain't gonna make the same mistake twice. I have it on good authority that Xbox 2 (or Xenon or whatever you like to call it) will sport a gamepad that's extremely similar to the trimmed-down model (dubbed Controller S) that the majority of people use today with their Xbox

A triple-crown prince
Ubisoft's ressurection of the Prince of Persia franchise has landed the company not one, but two stellar hits the last two years (check out our review of Warrior Within on page 126). And if what I'm hearing is correct (which it usually is), Ubisoft will attempt to go three for three. Look for the Prince running along the walls of your console next holiday, featuring a similar gritty backdrop as the last one, but with a greater emphasis on puzzle solving.

Give me a bonafide CAW dammit! I don't care whether the folks are licensed or not... the story was cool and that story could have been done with just characters... (thought the license did make it... more... something).

Just give me a real CAW, different martial arts styles, and MORE outrageous finishers!

Oh yeah, I need more 2 player matches in the story and I definitely need a return to tag matches... put more matches back in the ring... but keep the other arena types too.

Online...? That seems like the only thing that could take some punch away from PSP.

DS = Incredibly Average?

what do you expect from launch games when the system was just announced in january?? Like most launches, expect the games to get better within 6 months.

RR for PSP is a great launch game because you know damn well they've been working on the game since the psp was first announced.

Huge and very surprising? If that's not the recipe for a disappointing Mario Party 7 DS announcement, I don't know what is.

DS was nothing but a joke and the actual GBA successor will be revealed? Everyone with a DS may return it and get a GBA2 for free!

Well, everyone adores the Japanese launch lineup, so we just need to be patient. :D

I think a somewhat lousy business decision -- not the time the dev. kits have been out -- is to blame for the weakness of the US DS launch lineup.

"Highly obviously [sic] an average game at best?"

How many people here bagging on RA have actually played it?

Multiplayer is terrible, yes, and even single player has its problems, but it also does a lot better than other games, including some cool unique features, fun guns, and big, over-the-top action moments. I had fun with it.

It is definitely an above average shooter, imo. Maybe if you come into it as a huge N64 Goldeneye fan (I'm not) you'll be disappointed.

Damnit, Ubisoft. I used to defend WW, but after playing it I longed for the original's style and mood. I hope WW bombs!

Best news I've heard all year since the Acclaim bankrupcy.

Virtual Pro Wrestling 3, EA, AKI, $$ production values, make it happen bitches!!

Mark you should know better by know than to feel the need to come defend a review... no good will come of it. ;)

I think it's a bit of both honestly. Nintendo holding back their own games to let 3rd parties bask in extra sales has hurt in reviews overall and all the western developed games were made in something like 4-6 months, with about half that time having final hardware to work with. Launching first in the US might've made sense from a business perspective, but it's generally hurt the quality of the DS launch lineup imo. Not that launch lineups matter all that much though, look at PS2's lukewarm reception and unparalleled success.

I guess I have to agree, though I still don't expect the manjority of DS games not made by Nintendo to be worth a damn no matter how long the kits are out there.

I certainly agree that the mediocre launch lineup doesn't really matter in the long run, and if Nintendo's strategy has truly created goodwill w/ 3rd parties, all the better, I guess.

Dual Wielding is better than Halo 2 - 7.5

Anyway, I'm not going to do a whole bunch of talking about the game but I played most of it last weekend at a friends crib. He felt like he wasted his 50 bucks. I tried to warn him ahead of time. Compared to the original Goldeneye the game is terrible (If nostalgia is your thing). On its own it isn't horrible. Just completely average in practically every element. But then I'm used to the wealth of high quality FPS games available on the PC. [/PC elitist mode on]

I'll take back that highly obvious statement but those 7.5 scores are extremely generous. I don't have the issue yet but I'm very intrigued in the reasoning of why this game scored so well.

I wonder why so many are giving the mario 64 port such high marks
For a HUGE game from 8 years ago, with many extras but also problems, losing a point or two from the original doesn't seem exorbitant.

Paraphrasing....

- suffers from intermittent case of the laggies
- revamped DOA2 has even better graphics than the DOA3 portion
- huge arenas and tons of environmental objects to interact with during combat
- combat still sucks in comparison to real fighters
- button mashing beats out skill more often than it should
- no depth, no finesse, unbalanced play, just flash
- great to look at and play for short periods of time
- basically the same thing we first tried 5 years ago
- ok for fans, but an all-new game would be better
