Eiji Aonuma on new Zelda: "heavily influenced by OoT, but with a unique style"

Good question. Well, as you already know, we are now dealing with a teenage Link, and as you know, teenagers are very emotional beings, so there are definitely possibilities of seeing Link showing his feelings towards the princess. But honestly, we don't know what the future holds.

Give us a mature Zelda with porn!

Hahahah. When taking that question out of context at face value, that is sort of what it sounds like.

"CN: What's your favorite Zelda game, and why?

EA: The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past because it was the first Zelda game I played, and the one that got me involved with the franchise. "

He seems to be very excited with the project. He mentioned that the development of this game is easier than that of Wind Waker's. Could this mean more dungeons and detail? :)

I sure hope that Link doesn't end up in a relationship with the princess. The are already bound by the Triforce, a love relationship seems out of place in their destinies. Besides, I always thought if Link was going to get with someone, Malon would be more likely.

Good read, although:

CN: What are the similarities of this game, and the N64 games?

EA: Well, in terms of story elements, you can probably imagine what the story will be like, although I can't tell you any details. In terms of graphics, they will be totally different, and -- as I told you before -- heavily influenced by Ocarina of Time, but with a unique style. You'll have to be patient and wait for the end result.

I hope he isn't saying that because of the re-used storylines (Link, Zelda, Ganon, Triforce), we can guess what Zelda 05's story will be like. Meaning, I hope it isn't basically just another clone-copy story of OoT's.

And graphics are a good way of showing innovation in new games.
Hopefully other people at Nintendo realize the pull of impressive graphic technology amongst gamers, as well.

we will take all the time necessary to develop an excellent title

Don't expect this title until November 2005 in the US. But it's good that Nintendo is taking their time.

i can't be the only one that's had enough of the oot style games. unless they're going to really warp the concept (more than majora's mask did, though that was a step in the right direction,) i want to see something new.

I think Nintendo's always realized that, even during this gen. It think the concern for framerates and load times took it's toll on some Nintendo projects (Mario Kart and SMS in particular).

Well, it sounds like they're going to try for a darker feel than OoT, so that's a sort of "warping" of the concept. I'm not sure if that's what you're looking for, but regardless, I don't think the game is going to be a carbon copy of OoT's style.

Wind Waker? FYI there have only been one OoT style of game which is MM. I don't get how people say they get enough of OoT style games...

Yeah, I agree.

I'd say Aonuma and Miyamoto are probably the most important people at Nintendo.
Hmm? Me too. I just meant that I've been expecting the game to be a Fall 2005 release all along. Maybe you misunderstood me.

I hope it's going to be similar to Majora's Mask minus the restricted time. I want to be able to help townspeople to complete minigames. I want at least two times as many mini quests as MM (which only had 20 in the notebook).

It was meant as a reply, not a quote. My bad ;)

Er, no. MM actually had a vastly different "style" in all respects (game design, visual design, storyline, etc). The only thing it had in common with OoT was it ran on the same basic engine.... in many ways TWW is more similar to OoT.

Well I meant that the N64 games OoT and MM had the same elements as Aonuma said, but you are right in terms of story WW was similar to OoT. But if you look at the graphical look it isn't...

It's how you look at it, but you are right :) my bad. sorry.

So that debunks the whole "LOZ on GCN is using 100% of GCN's power" rumor. That made my day when he said they're adding more detail to the graphic engine.

The development team must be very happy. They can take all the time they need because they have the green light from Nintendo to do so. Nintendo already stated that they were very pleased with the reaction the short trailer of Zelda received at E3 (I was one of the lucky few in the audience), and that they don't plan on releasing any further media of the game until E3 2005.

Playable Zelda will most definately pack Nintendo's booth.

I thought Mario Kart looked pretty gorgeous.

I just hope this set (but moving I'm sure) camera angles in the dungeons thing works out. I'm not sure about that yet, guess we'll find out at E3 how well it works. Apart from that, everything we've seen so far looks great.

I had no beef with look of MK. It's a very smooth racer with a lot little things going on. But the texture still remain as a common complaint. It's the same deal with SMS--awesome water/refraction effects with a depth of field blur and plenty of different backgrounds actions running at a solid framerate, yet people can't get over the texturing and models.

Just as we suspected. No further media until E3 2005 :(

No further media as in video or pictures, or both? If both then Nintendo must have something special up their sleeves. Could this Zelda game be as epic as OOT was?

You guys missed the news that came out of this interview:

Nintendo Announces Four Swords for DS!

Nah, that seemed almost like a given. Aonuma already confirmed back at E3 that there was something for the DS involving Zelda.

Four Swords DS is one of those given announcements...they'll probably push it out at PSP Launch, too, as the sales of FSA have proven that Zelda spinoffs still sell.

So did Aonuma confirm "Headstrong" as the theme song for the next Zelda?
I would break my GameCube and swear my allegiance to Microsoft forever if "Headstrong" found its way into ANY first-party Nintendo game, let alone Zelda.

Even as a joke, the idea is just...ugggh.

I went to WAGs boutique and all I got was a sniff
CN: What are the similarities of this game, and the N64 games?

EA: Well, in terms of story elements, you can probably imagine what the story will be like, although I can't tell you any details.

I guess that means that they are gonna stick with the main story about Ganondorf trying to get the triforce. I don't really have a problem with it, they made enough differences to the story in ooT and WW to make it a different game. As long as they do that, then I will be happy:)

On the iother hand, is there gonna be voice acting or not?

Haha, with my luck, it will be.

Maybe it's not too late to edit my statement to, "I would continue to like my GameCube and probably still never buy an Xbox forever if "Headstrong" found its way into ANY first-party Nintendo game, let alone Zelda."

I believe this is the look they were actually aiming for with both titles however ge-man. (as well as other upcoming titles like MT) Look at anything Nintendo R&D various departments have put out thus far. (SMS, KAR, MG: TT, MKDD, Colosseum, LM, etc.) Then compare RE4, SFA, RL, RS3, FF:CC, etc. A suistanable framerate & great texturing are both acheivable.

See I thought it was to do with Nintendo wanting to do games with smaller teams, faster and cheaper. I think they just underestimated how much people want their Nintendo games to be the complete package.
