Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree No Summon Hardcore Git Gud Club

Replaying with the Bloodfiend's Arm for shits and giggles. This broken ass weapon sure is something.
Well here is the results of that vs. final boss.

I doubt it will survive next patch, and it shouldn't. For my next real playthrough now that meme run is done, I'm thinking of trying Ancient Meteoric Orc Greatsword. That or Dragon Hunters Great Katana to try a new weapon type.

Light Great Sword has become my favourite weapon class in the game so I'm gonna go through the DLC again with INT build so I can use Rellana's Twin Blades.

Bu one down side is just like Sword of Night and Flame, you need both faith and IN for it.

Alright, final boss down. No bullshit cheesyness or anything stupid like that. Just my guardian swordspear and a dream. Unbelievably frustrating to learn at first but wasn't too awful (except for a couple moves) when you kinda learn what's happening. As most bosses in this dlc are though, his aggressiveness is cranked up to 11.

Faith's got a bunch of nice buffs and stuff though. But anyway, thinking about doing an INT build too. I've done a mixture of playthroughs with dex, fth, & str but never did anything with INT. Experimented with the Star-Lined Sword for a bit during the DLC and was pretty sweet. So yeah, I need to check out some other INT stuff.

I have NT/STR build thats at level 229. Maybe I can Respec and put some strength point to faith.

Works done, so it's time to face Rellana. Might be a long afternoon/night lol.

It is done. No summons for the entire game, except for the very last bit which involves fighting three enemies at the same time.

I found the base game's final bosses to be more difficult, overall.
To be fair, I wish I hadn't used the blessings. They definitely made the game easier than I was hoping for.
Still, though, this was an excellent DLC.

Time to do it again with meme-builds!

Here's my Messmer solo kill. No fancy pants magic or cheese, just my Red Sonja with a great katana and a stagger + shield wondrous physick. I'm on no sleep once again so I played a little sloppy but I managed to fuck him up pretty badly in phase 2. He only did his snake nonsense once, but thankfully it was a single attack. The attack where it's like 5 snake strikes and then two explosions was the bane of my runs lol

Oh yeah, since I posted the cheesy broken meme build from playthrough 2, Here was what I used from playthrough 1, fighting my favorite boss Midra.

Still like how literally the first thing I did in the DLC was find a boss that gave me a strength somber greatsword. Felt good man.

I recently finished the last boss and completed the story. I think I’ve done all the remembrance bosses and all the dragons and quite a number of the minor bosses. I completed every fight solo though I did summon my spirit ash during some unsuccessful fights. In the end though I completed each fight by myself. I used a great shield that you get from the second last fight and Mohg’s spear to essentially poke and bleed the last boss to death behind the protection of my shield. It’s a bit of cheese perhaps but it got the job done. That boss makes it pretty limited as to what you can do if you’re just an average player imo.

I think this should probably be the limit for how aggressive bosses in the Dark Souls/EldenRing formula should be unless they are going to increase character movement and flask taking speed in future games to compensate for increased aggression and boss speed. Also camera movement is atrocious and desperately needs improving for the next game. Visual clutter on some fights should’ve been decreased as well.

I beat Sekiro this year and its combat is significantly better balanced and refined compared to Elden Ring which makes its gameplay and difficulty more rewarding. Elden Ring is all over the place with its balancing depending on your build and whether you summon or not. Balancing and fine tuning an action adventure game like Sekiro is clearly a lot easier than an RPG of this size.

Just beat the final boss and what hot fucking garbage. That first phase was no problem but that second phase is ridiculous. The biggest problem is that I can't see a damn thing because of all the beams and orbs of light flooding the damn screen. Half the time, I couldn't tell what the damn boss was doing because the lights were literally blinding me.

I finally got him not through skill but through sheer brute force. Can't read his attacks for shit in the second phase because I quite literally don't even see them.

Finished the Leda fight, absolutley the worst part of the DLC. I'm not sure but I think it took me two goddamn hours. This fight was meant for summons, there were two npc ones but I didn't use them or ash summons. A nightmare. Loaded up on stamina talisman, buffed sword and went all in to kill them as fast as possible. Two I can handle but once it's three I'm done.

I don't know what's Miyazaki's design philosophy really. He talks about not wanting the whole world to play the game and making it difficult but with ash summons the game is a joke, I've seen a video where the mimic takes out half the health of the final boss (base game). And of course there's magic and ranged attacks. Mesmer's weapon has a powerful throw attack that can be done forever - only stamina needed, no FP. This fight would have been a joke with it.

So what is it, Miyazaki? What's the design philosoph? Make a game ultra hardcore for melee players, where it's the most fun, and if they don't like it they can play it extra easy and just watch summons do the work while occasionally throwing a bolt or a spear or whatever. This is just sloppy incoherent design.

All completed. No summons. All bosses.

I did have to change my build to go arcane heavy to make use of that new club to do 220 blood on final boss. Even with that it took me hours to finally beat him.

10/10. Miyazaki's opus magnum.

Messemer and Frenzied Flame are the best bosses. Abyssal woods is the best area. 12/10 atmosphere.

Elden Ring in a nutshell .. just hope he is moving on to other projects.. leave this mess for team B to carry on.

Marika's Hammer is so good in this fight. The L2 button is a giant AoE, and picks you up off the ground so you just smash. Certain human characters in the game when hit by this also bounce up and fall onto the ground having to stand back up.

Made this fight very easy.

Well I'm out. Used a a mimic tear for the first time in DLC to kill the final boss. Also used a rune arc for the first time - rykard one that gives you extra HP. I was just done. After 4 hours I wanted to never play any souls game again. Another four hours another day, a few more days even, wasn't out of the question. I was just sick of the game and wanted to move on.

Sick of panic dodging endless attacks, healilng and getting hit again and again, sick of trying to learn every attack doge timing by the millisecond. Sick of the whole souls genre, of the clumsy menu system, of slow action and getting stunted and taking forever to get up - like the guy has a hangover. Of endless weaons and modifcations and no clear information on quality comparison, so many locked behind other attributes. Of so many cool outfits that I can't try beacuase everything lowers my defense. So much bullshit in these games.

And you know what's funny? I died simultaneously with the boss. The game kicked me in the teeth as its final act. Couldn't even get a clean win with a mimic and rune arc. Now it's been saved and there's no going back.

215 hours total elden ring and I leave bitter and resentful. :messenger_pensive:

You never had to kill yourself doing it and if it got frustrating then who cares. Just supposed to be a fun challenge. You'll always have more chances with ng+ or different characters if you want. The final boss was the only time you used it.... No doubt you'll get it next time.

As my application to the gitgud club, happy to report Rellana and Lion down solo Ng++.
I was trying ti replicate a strat on Rellana with milady and shield counters… after failing for 30 mins I went back to my
backhand blades with swift slash just to check how thatI’ll go and I won. I wasn’t even buffing and had my talismans all wrong set up for shields… which I noticed only after going straight to the lion and downing him second try. I am at scadutree level 20 so I guess that helps

Fuck it. I'll speed run through NG+ and get to the bastard again and rip him to shreds solo even if it takes me a year. I wouldn't have cared if I started out using mimic but to do it at the end and give up and spoil everything still bothers me, and will irk me still even if I beat him at NG+, I need to correct this. It's not about the game, I think I cared too much because I was trying to prove something to myself - I always hated any challenge, easily frustrated and upset over even little things, and pushing myself through these games was a reaction to this. I gotta do this. *deep breath*

ah I'm in this club too. but final boss kinda broke me so I used shield poke cheese. now I regret it, since I'm too lazy to do ng+ to get to him again. anyways it still required learning some of his moves and only helped me dealing damage when he was constantly attacking so I'm not completely mad

rest, I beat them like usual. practically became a master in romina, and pretty good at midra, bayle and decentish in messmer. likely helped 50 or so folks with romina, 5 or so with bayle (out of maybe 50 60 attempts because people keep dying with low vigor or low scadu level).

recorded some of my fights full spoilers

a funny coop spectacle where host called for 2 people and Igon, making boss have 2x health. 3rd guy dead within the 1st minute leaving us to beat a super tanky bayle for like 10 mins. towards the end we've lost our edge and started taking more damage but somehow managed to pull it off. the host's run towards the boss in the end, that final stretch of run is so fun to watch and I'm happy for them

Wow, speedrunning NG+ was easy. Took a little over three hours. Only defeated two base game bosses. I did the varr quest to go straight to mohg, had to subscribe to PS plus so I can do the invasions (never tried souls online, weird experience). Radahn (first one) was just running around to get the two medallions and activating a grace in altus plateau. DLC was just straight to shadow keep, one try for the hippo (edit: actually two), and running through the dungeon to messmer which only took a few tries then again straight to the scarlet rot boss and boom - it's the final dungeon. Just ran through everyting except the lion swordsmen, those two were the only things that was tough in this run.

Also a surprise - Leda and friends were just three. Guess you need to interact and do sidequests for the others to show up (I don't remember if there were npc summon signs but probably not).

Took a few cracks at the big guy again and maybe he's a little harder? I don't know, it can't be a big difference. I'll be just playing a bit every day and taking my time, no rush.

I thought backhand blade would work here but no. Putrescent wrecked me hard today, but I wanted to do it cheese-free... Not exactly clean but there are some moments.

some of his moves reminded me of Orphan of Kos (who wrecked me hard in BB)

3rd playthrough done. Did most the DLC with dragon hunter's great katana, pretty fun weapon but not my style. Ended up respecting to just finish last boss with greatsword.

Next is trying out Ancient Meteoric Orc Greatsword.

I'll let you know in like a week or so. I just made a pure caster mage 2 days ago. I'm about level 50 and going through the base game. Never ever played a mage in all of soulsbourne so it's pretty cool and fresh. But yeah, might be challenging in the dlc, we'll see lol

Dark souls 2 I did as a mage. Only time I have.

It was like cheating. It’s so OP.

Just as an FYI, flame grant me strength and boiled crab are both body buffs so you're only gonna have 1 active at a time (it will overwrite)

Nice one, I had no idea. What other buffs cancel out each other???

Btw not sure if this is common knowledge but the swift slash dash (the ash of war I'm spamming in the video to get in his face) can be directed anywhere with the left stick, also away from the enemy which is great against some very hard to dodge attacks like the hippo grab.

Check this out if you want : https://eldenring.wiki.fextralife.com/Buffs+and+Debuffs

You basically can only have 1 buff of each single category active at one time. Weapon buffs and shield buffs are pretty self-explanatory but aura buffs and body buffs and unique buffs are kinda hard to remember. Anything that's "Unique" can be stacked as much as you want.

There's not too many Aura buffs (Golden Vow being one of them) but there's alotttttttt of body buffs. Crabs, meats, barrier stuff, flame grant me str, etc

Great, I was constantly using multiple buffs that negate each other... Also shrimps (+defense) cancel chicken (+attack)??? Good to know.

As a Faith caster, I didn't think it was too bad. Lightning Spear is still a workhorse, and I don't think any boss took me more than 1.5-2 hours to finally beat.

Then again, I did summon spirit ashes in about half the boss fights. :messenger_smirking:

RADAHN CONSORT OF MIQUELLA

KNEEL BEFORE YOUR ELDEN LORD

IT'S DONE! YES YES YES YES YES!!! :messenger_beaming:

Solo and just melee - bloodhound fang, radahn armor, talisman setup were the extra HP one +3 that gets you ten percent more, dragoncrest shield, and two to defend against holy/nonphysical. No attack talisman, didn't think they were worth it. Wonderous flask was opaline one that gets you better defense and plus ten percent health, used it before the fight as there's no time during the second phase (can barely heal). Finished with ZERO flasks remaining and a quarter of my HP bar. Took something like twelve hours total, most of it in the NG+ run. I spend like five minutes after running around the arena and doing gestues and playing with prattling pate - wonderful.

Not a great boss unfortunately, still good though. All they needed to do to make this boss great was make it easier to see in the second phase, such a shame. Same with Commander Gaius - just fix the hitbox on the charge as it's impossible to dodge it consistently ( I saw a video where the guy succeffully doges into the boar - not into its direction to the side but straight on into it and it works :messenger_unamused: ).

I need a break from gaming. :messenger_grinning_sweat:

Its because you forced your way trough the worst souls game by a mile... I got the platinum for elden ring out of respect for Miyazaki... I just finished my 4th run in Lords of the Fallen and had much more fun than playing Elden Ring... just taking a breath and running other builds.. Souls games are fun .. Elden Ring is fucking boring, poor balanced and unfair, thanks to open world bullshit and "easy mode assistance"

What a cool bossfight. First phase is fine but I struggled on the second one because I couldn't find good moments to attack, plus some of his attacks are crazy stuff.

I'm starting to doubt my dex setup will ever get me past Radahn... I got phase 1 pretty much figured out but phase 2 is breaking my balls. Reason being when every attack is followed by a wave of magic there seems to be really no way to avoid damage unless dodging everything into him and staying glued to his legs. Not exactly making it easier, 'cause then you have seemingly impossible to dodge attacks like that areal drop 5x combo or double gravity slam...
I really have no idea how to react to those.... In gitgud I trust but this is a bit much.
I'm trying to find something on youtube but every "guide" I see is about what I'm not gonna be doing - using that 220 bleed build bonk, the broken perfume or some other cheap heavy shield method, I already did that on my first playthrough.

In the meantime I'm at Commander Gaius. Feels doable but the hitbox on the charge attack is utter BS. Was this fight designed to be played ranged on torrent?
