Elder Scrolls fans will have to wait, Bethesda has no current plans for ES5

Howard took a few questions from the audience but didn't give out much info on their future projects, saying only, "We are working on our next big game but we are not talking about it." Don't look a new Elder Scrolls game in the near future; Howard said there are no current plans for an "Elder Scrolls 5." As far as an Elders Scrolls based MMO, he said in jest, "There's always a chance." He gave no new info on the third party developed Fallout: New Vegas, due out next year. He did confirm that they are through with creating any more Fallout 3 DLC content.

This is not what they said last year:

>:(

I read this and saw it as a type of reverse psychology hype. Bethesda is Elder Scroll just as SE is Final Fantasy as Valve is Half Life. 2cents

No plans for an Elders Scrolls 5.

It could be an Elders Scrolls game, just not 5.

Like Fall Out: New Vegas or Halo ODST

Or Elder Scrolls MMO? How many people would rage from that announcement...

it's tricky wording, they're making an es game

I have to agree here.

Bethesda starts making their next game while their current game is only halfway through development, so when they said they intend to make an Elder Scrolls game for 2010, that had to have been in development for while.

They also did trademark "Skyrim" back in 2006, so technically The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim wouldn't be The Elder Scrolls 5.

I already am >:[
Well we know ZeniMax Online Studios is making an MMO, but even if it is an Elder Scrolls MMO I don't think they'd take the vast majority of Bethesda plus the online studio to make it, because if it bombs they suddenly lack any other Bethesda titles to help offset the costs.

Bethesda already has enough problems with bugs and balancing in their single player RPGs. I would be certain to avoid any MMORPG endeavor from them unless it came out and received universal praise or something.

I can't fathom how an Elder Scrolls MMO would work but I would love it if they retained the first person perspective (and build the game around it). Refine the Sword and Shield mechanics and PvP would be awesome. Spellswords would be so overpowered though.

Meh, They'll announce a new game eventually. Untill then there is so many great games coming out in the new future - it won't be that hard coping.

They can't make the new one all online... the best part about TES4 was breaking the game.

I made a 120% chamelion suit and just wearing it made the guards go bonkers. They killed everyone in Bravil.

Can't do that crap online.

I wouldn't be against some sort of online, though. Being able to explore with a friend would be awesome.

This would be great - but it would be just as hard to implement as a FPS MMO. Dealing with latency would be awful.

Meh I never really got into them. 4 was kinda cool, but 3 had a lot of erm issues, that kept me from liking it. Neither one really ever hooked me.

Non-news. This is default PR speak when asked about a game that hasn't been announced yet, if it's actually in development or not.

Meh. I don't care for another Fallout, or another Elder Scrolls on the Oblivion engine, so I guess I can wait - don't think i'll be buying any other Fallout stuff though, I just can't get interested in the game. I spent about 500+ hours with Morrowind, about 200+ with Oblivion and about 20 with Fallout 3 :/

As amazing as I found the ES world in Oblivion, the lack of any kind of "invisible hand" to even gently push you in the direction of anything even remotely epic kind of killed some of the feel. Shivering Isles did a much better job than the regular old game, though.

It definetely could have used some improvements, but it was seriously a console seller when it came out, given that I didn't have a PC that could run anything like that at the time.

It's a real shame that never materialized. Shadowkey was really cool on N-Gage, shiiiiiiitty framerate aside.

What a bizarre platform decision that was.

I know it's sometimes ban-worthy to cry for ports, but I would love to play Shadowkey and I don't see why it couldn't be ported to the DS.

Speaking of the "Travels" games, has anyone played the cellphone games? Are they worth buying?

It doesn't matter. ES5 will be what I look forward to, not a spin-off or side quest. I want a full world, not scaled, and one that will take years to get everything out of. That will take time.

If we're lucky, Bethesda will stop making games altogether.

That's the same as saying there won't be a new Mario game.

It's a genuine opinion. I think the Western RPG as a "genre" has been harmed by the success of Oblivion/Fallout 3.

Fuck elder scrolls. Such a boring universe.

What Bethesda are good at is building persistent RPG universes. So they should marry their talents to more interesting universes, just like they did with Fallout.

I mean can you nerds imagine a Bethesda built Starwars RPG? Would beat the snot out of KotoR.

Yep.

Yep, I'm imagining it now... oh my God, what's this? From my mouth, it's trickling... Is that blood? No? Can only be... vomit.

What I can I say? Some people don't hate eating meat, some people hate playing good games.
