Got my hands on Vol 1 of Elfen Lied w/box today and I think I have been scared for life.

Now I have seen some disturbing things in my days but this is down right wrong. The 1st 10min of Elfen Lied episode one are brutal
(naked chick, heads flying, limbs being lopped off and bodies spilt in two)
but that is not what has sicken me to the core.

The final episode of the volume there is a battle that takes place in a cemetery.

This chick gets leg severed, her fingers sliced off and the rest of her limbs amputated.

Now I have seen similar stuff in anime before but this time I can't get it out of my head.

I just keep seeing the fingers getting sliced off over and over in my mind.

So I recommended everyone pick up this DVD next week :D

hey I liked it, but I can't get the image out of my head.

I just keep looking at my hand and hoping that will never happen to me...

tedtropy

$50/hour, but no kissing on the lips and colors must be pre-separated
I've yet to see Elfen Lied, but I can definately say the last few episodes of Beserk really stuck with me for awhile. Talk about things turning to shit, yikes...

Elfen Lied ROCKS YOU and I just remembered I have yet to see the rest of the episodes. It's in my HUUUUGGE to-be-seen anime backlog in the corner of my HD. :(

Elfen was licensed? Haha.
Why is it funny that it's liscenced?

A shitball harem show fused with over the top gore. It's practically screaming for a US release :p

Im suprised it even got licensed here. I wonder how much of it got cut out. That anime was brutal, even had a
child rape scene. Im assuming that got cut out of the US release

I watched it subbed and although a lot of it is fluff, I really liked how it resolved toward the end.
It's really dark and gloomy through out the entire series but the final episode had a lot of hope that kind of made up for all the dark stuff.

Uh... It had violence towards minors in spades, but aside from nudity it didn't really have any explicit sexual content IIRC.

EL is like half trashy violence, half LoveHina-like comedy, not bad but not as good as ppl say either. If you want some genuine disturbing stuff try Narutaru (was that ever licensed?); Digimon meets David Lynch :lol

Has problems recognising girls
I've seen worse in manga, there are quite a few that are popular enough to turn into an anime but they just won't ever happen because you'd have to cut out so much.

I'll move it up in my viewing pile, after I finish Getbackers vol 6.

Narutaru, now that's a crazy anime. o.o It starts off pretty much like this "yayz I've got my little star dude with me and he's cute and stuff" and ends........ Well I don't really want to spoil it, but, damn. o.o

Why are you guys comparing Elfen Lied to Love Hina? It's comedy is nowhere near LH...? LH relies on sexual situations, I don't remember many fanservice scenes in Elfen aside from about one instance.

What the hell?
Boarding house, childhood promise, influx of girls, love triangle, Keitarou type protagonist... come on.

wow Narutaru's finally out here?

Haha I need to pick it up. Think an R-rated version of Pokemon and you've got Narutaru.

Is it as violent as Gantz uncensored? I don't like gore either but is the plot good? >_<
It's a lot worse (judging from the eps of Gantz I've actually seen, but I cant see it being worse)

I'd post pics, but uhh, I'll refrain for now :p

I have own the DVDs for Gantz vol 1-4 and watched them all. While Gantz is bad it did not get to me like EL.

Something about cute anime girls doing these things makes is hard to watch.

Speaking of disturbing anime eps, isn't the last episode of Excel Saga supposed to be brutal? In fact, wasn't it not allowed to be aired on TV in Japan because of its content?

Think of a midway point between everything in normal Excel Saga and Puni Puni Poemi, and that's kinda where ep 26 is.

Difference between Gantz and Elfen Lied is that Gantz's gore is mostly humorous or the kind of stuff you'd see in a typical R-rated action/horror movie, while Elfen Lied's stuff is disturbing in a psychological sense. Seeing innocent people get slaughtered in sickening ways is not fun.

The first 3 episodes haven't been bad. I'm just desensitized to anime violence, I guess.

Edit: :lol @ cemetery fight. Hilariously owned.

Another fun but violence filled anime people should watch once is Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokuro-chan aka The Beat to Death Angel Dokuro-chan. Its comedy mixed with violence. It's really out there. :)
