Elite: Dangerous Standard Beta (Starting Jul 29th - $75)

Spent all day to upgrade to a Hauler. First thing I do in a Hauler? crash it into the side of the fucking station that I traveled to. Actually crashed it against the fucking wire grill shit. Not enough cash to rebuy the Hauler.

Back to square one.

Of course, the entire time I've been dealing with super buggy super crashy day 1 beta, so the whole process has been even more tedious.

This fuckin' game.

I just wanted a little fun in a viper D:
 
Paint jobs are in the store now, its going to be hard to resist, 3.50$ per skin. The blue sonoran is gorgeous.

Fix softlock in hyperspace (or 2 instances of it at any rate)
Reduce debug churn on servers
Fix routing letter log file spam
Additional guard against disappearing stations
Fix crash for delivery mission with no cargo
Fix for start system name not showing up when returning to base after a collect or massacre mission
Fix for PirateLord assassination mission having a zero length minimum jump distance
Some text tweaks
Fix for update damage crash
Prevent OOM GPU crash with missing page in vertex or index buffers
Added paint job hook in with store
Added code side mission minimum jump distances, and added the contracts to the mission description
Fix null value crash in launch bay
New GFx Libraries with Scaleform's most recent heap code
Prevent false positives in the player info ship check when new peer ship is in supercruise
Handle the case when a NewObject letter fails to read the new object's factory
Prevent crash on null value in docking door
Very slightly increased the max fuel per jump attribute so that the smaller ships can jump a tiny bit further than before (around 6 LY rather than 5.5 LY)
Send error telemetry on saved game XML parse failure
) Prevent the DockingComputer from access violating
Defaulting the station to draw everything and only turn bits off based on position, instead of the other way around
Mission templates for completing the mission on delivery rather than returning to the station
Minor change to the layout of the first internal panel (status) to allow names of up to and possibly over 20 characters to be shown
Salting StellarBodyEffectsRenderInstance with some extra sanity checking.
Fixed non-initialisation report details on ShppPersonalisationComponent
Changed StellarBackgroundRenderInstance to have zero defaults

That is sick. And the price is reasonable. But, not touching this shit without 3rd person cam. I mean, what's the point? For the benefit of onlookers, and the occasion where I go and outfit my ship?

Black is stealthier ;) Silent running + black paint job could catch quite a few peoples by surprise.
 
Are the updates incremental? I really hope so because if no I am downloading the whole game a second time now... The launcher needs some more infos on that.
 
I am really on the fence for the beta, i really like these kind of games, but shelling out 60E with so many games coming these few months...
 
I'm sure they won't see my engine and ship lights and the bright blue stripe and black ship against the dark purple background :P

Approaching a target, silent mode running, flight assist off (no constant thruster adjusting your axes) and throttle to 0, better?

Did a trade run mission last night and it was a bit of a bummer I had to go back to get paid, because I would rather have just started some new missions and kept on going forward instead of back and forth.

Also, glad they got some softlock fixes when in hyperspace. My play session ended last night when I had that happen to me (but I was basically done with the night anyway -- it was a sign).

That small change takes a large sting out of having to reearn my hauler.

Half the time I spent was running back to get my money... so this should improve the process significantly.

I just did a trade run and still had to return to collect my reward just now :-/.

Also bought an Eagle after selling some "found" gold to the black market. Very maneuverable and it feels a bit more dangerous but it's a tiny upgrade from the Sidewinder. Would've probably done better to buy some upgrades for the Sidewinder until I could afford a Viper or Cobra.

Also noticing, weight seems to have a pretty large impact on the trade routes you can take in the smaller ships. I almost got stranded from Eranin in I-Bootis with 3/4 Cargo slots filled, had to dump all but 1 in order to make the jump. The Eagle doesn't seem to be able to jump as far as the Sidewinder.
 
How are you guys using a 360/One pad?


edit: is the third combat scenario supposed to kick my ass? Once the guy is behind me I can't target him again, ever.
 
Text menus are still quite hard to read without leaning in, but E:D AND THE DK2 = OH MY GOD

I just need to save up for a beefier graphics card, but even with the low frames, I was blown away!
 
Unfortunately every time I try and jump to another system, my game freezes indefinitely. This is after spending 10 minutes figuring out why my roll-axis had turned into yaw. Turns out it was because I forgot to retract my landing gear. Oops.
 
Played a lot with the settings, changing mouseX to yaw and A/D to roll helped, controlls much smoother for me.

I don't know if it's just the ship but yaw is incredibly sluggish compared to pitch, at least in the Sidewinder.

I ended up doing the same for mouse X, putting roll on E/Q and vertical/lateral thrust to WS/AD. Put throttle on the mousewheel at 10% increments. Not sure what to do with forward/reverse thrust.

If you didn't know, that's a game design decision by Frontier to prevent turreting which is rampant in Star Citizen. It's to prevent just spinning in place shooting at somebody. Because you know, that's not dogfighting..

Frontier made the design decision to have dogfights be similar to WWII dogfights.

That is why it's useful to have a HOTAS. Since you can use the hats to map lateral and vertical thrusters which give you extra control on maneuverability.

I posted about this on the Elite forum but has anyone else been dealing with a constant minor stutter even though the framerate is otherwise OK? I've been getting it since day one of the premium beta. I figured it would sort itself out but it's still there and it's going to make DK2 a real mess.

Yes I get this, FRAPS shows a solid 60fps but still get an odd micro stutter.
 
Still undecided if i should get this !
Any complete impression on the beta now that it has been out for more than 24 hours ?
 
The unidentified signal sources poping as you supercruise are much better ways to go do something if you want to, in mining system for example i stumbled upon half a dozen canisters of gold, cha-ching! There's a lot less interdictions now too so exploring is actually doable and fun! I went to see the binary star and red dwarf in i-bootis, along with the dustball. The visuals are so fucking good, the planets, the stars, the milky way, the asteroids, everything's been upgrade and yet it runs smoother. Its much better to start with 2 lasers too :)
 
I streamed for almost 8 hours today. Fucking exhausted. Game is fantastic though, absolutely. Just bought my Eagle.

Btw, right now transport missions are basically OP good. You have to transport 1 ton of cargo to a system and get thousands of credits for it. So do those to get money super quick.
 
This game is just about impossible to play with KB+M , so I went out and got a Thrustmaster T.16000M PC Joystick at Microcenter for $25. Much Much Much better control.

Oh and the game looks amazing. :D

What person in their right mind would play space combat sims with KB+M?
Also, good choice of stick. Dunno if Microcenter still offers the Thrustmaster T. Flight HOTAS X for $30, as I'd highly recommend it for its layout.
 
They have to change the wanted and bounty system. I'm getting bounties from killing pirates that interdict me. Once an AI starts shooting at me, I will shoot back. But how the system works is that the one fired upon cant start shooting at the guy till that guy actually gets a hit on you.

It's a flawed system.
