Elite: Dangerous Standard Beta (Starting Jul 29th - $75)

I'm a bit lost on how to actually travel. I'm doing the tutorial and I can go into warp, but I can't get close to my destination. Not really following the travel properly. Loving the game though. Universe is HUGE viewing it through the Rift.

From watching Youtube clips, I really hope they make entering and exiting supercruise a bit more seamless. It looks very abrupt and badly edited jumping in and out. Things appearing/disappearing for a frame, star background changing, lighting being all over the place etc...

You're probably in Supercruise.

You use Supercruise to warp between locations in a sytem and hyperspace to warp to different systems.

When checking the bulletin boards for a bit of cargo haulage all of them say "fine" at the bottom.Does that mean they are all illegal runs?

This trailer is just sooooo good!

How do you force someone to leave supercruise and attack him?

You need to buy a Frame Shift Interdictor module, the video I saw shows one being bought at Aulin Enterprise but they're probably widely available.

My thoughts on Beta 3 - so far it's amazing, just a little unstable for me. I've probably had 3 or 4 desktop crashes since installing last night. Haven't tried fuel scooping or mining, might do them at some point. Nice features, but I never thought I'd be doing much mining from the get-go.

I already saw one Imperial Clipper, absolutely beautiful ship. I'm going to miss my upgraded Cobra when we get the Gamma wipe.

First time visting the Arcturus system in the game http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arcturus

And was greeted with a nice view upon arriving at one of the stations :)

Can you change the ship in every station? Or do you leave it somewhere and it stays there?

If you leave a ship in a certain space station, it remains there. In the shipyard menu you can see where all your ships are iirc.

Mining isnt too viable right now, not till they add mining machineries, drones, etc.

Not sure if this is a bug or not but when inside a station and trying to dock I can no longer use my Up/Down and Lateral thruster buttons.

Makes docking a pain in the ass.

They work fine at all other times when flying.

In the config there is a section for docking controls which is separated from flight ones. Check to see if it didnt erase the thrusters up/down

No, I got this one too. My vertical thrusters (which I had used on takeoff not ten minutes prior, and also at that same landing dock not three minutes prior) suddenly stopped working, and my power redistribution also cut out. Both of them came back when I got a few kilometers away from the station.

I'm also getting weird audio hiccups, gaps and little pops in my headphones. Happens worse around stations, not sure what's causing it yet.

And TrackIR's going to take some getting used to. I have a feeling I'll be tweaking it for a while until I find a setting that works. Functionally, it's working fine, it's just a bit wobbly when I'm looking straight ahead, and has an odd combination of sometimes seeming like it's too sensitive, and other times that it's not sensitive enough. Maybe I just need to get more used to it, I dunno.

Thrustmaster T-Flight Hotas X

The base comes apart and my keyboard fits perfectly between the thrust and flight stick.
I'll vouch for this one, too, it's what I'm using.

Oh, and I saw some screenshots with an on-screen fps display, down in the corner next to the "Beta 3.00" tag.. anyone know how to turn that on?

I did check this and it didn't do anything.

I did discover that some times it works and some times it doesn't. It seems completely random. I docked at one station and all buttons responded fine, then when taking off from the same dock they would not work at all, not sure why. Looks to be a bug.

I just had an idea. Now with the possibility of having ships at multiple stations, players should be able to add their own transport request missions.

If I'm landed at Station X and want to get to Station Y (but want to leave my current ship at station X) I should be able to add a request (with your own price) that another player can accept to transport me there. This can be done so that the mission can be fulfilled while the player is offline.

So bought the game yesterday while at work, got home to download & play it and find that the internet in my house isn't working (for some people). Anybody using wifi through the electrical cabling can no longer connect, but people close enough to the main wifi router still can.

I can't even try to fix it properly because
a) nobody in the house has the password
&
b) there are sixteen fucking people in the house

Not really related to Elite I guess, just me ranting as I was so looking forward to playing the game....I even took friday off work :(

I can't seem to play Beta 3 without it having windowed. It's odd, but Beta 2.0X never game me any issues untill now. Beta 3's fullscreen would display on the other monitor, while my mouse would be reacting on the same screen as if it was operating there.

40$ is my limit for non subscription based games.
I payed 65E for Diablo 3 at launch and still regret it.

As fanboi said, I also paid $150 and I couldn't be any happier. Right now I'm having issues with Beta 3.01 with my Oculus Rift (blacks are messed up) but this will probably be fixed within one or two days I'd expect.

Playing this with the DK2 and HOTAS is amazing. Even without the DK2 it's still amazing, but yeah...!

On the official forums, it seems a lot of folks are having issues with Rift and the new patch.

I plan to get one of these as well. I've read nothing but good things about it.

Wow this trailer is so amazing.

Why does it have to cost 75$? ;

Because you didn't support the game at the very start. Now you have to pay much more if you want the same privelaged content that the early supports got for significantly less. Makes perfect sense. I wish I backed it early, instead I'll wait for it to release proper at a normal price

Copy Paste

Beta 3.01 will be available by 11:00 GMT - the servers will go down before that to implement the update.

You can see the full change log below:

- Protect against infinite loop when generating profiling report from server
- Stop memory error on shutdown causing a crash
- Prevent a null launch pad crashing the game
- Fix crash caused by rings in galaxy map
- Fix server telemetry crash
- Fix crash from broken mission template
- Fix crash from shield bank replication
- Fix for shadow crash on launch pads that aren’t ready
- Fix resource naming for bounty hunter loadout
- Fix crash in icon instance buffers
- Fix for crash when unable to lock vertex buffer for line rendering
- Add debugging to help find missing asteroid chunks
- Fix hardcoded '9000' energy per unit mass which should be '90000', and is causing fuel to run our really quickly
- New time formatter added that shows time as 16h 32min rather than 16:32 - resolves ambiguity in situations where the number doesn't rapidly change
- Added new layers for alpha deferred emissive support – stops some cockpit items sorting incorrectly
- Fixed render sorting issues with emissive materials rendering behind deferred elements
- Alt-tabbing game fixed
- Game starting on wrong monitor fixed
- Mouse not working on multi-monitor fixed
- Ensure we send the ROUTE letter to all the servers we connect to, not just the first – fixes missing NPC’s in session
- Protect against failing to get the launch bay interface when saving
- Fix the ship preview failing to darken when the pause menu is displayed on top of it
- Server now refreshes its mission information when a client connects, meaning that returning to a server before it has forgotten about you will not leave stale data there
- Clamp Wear-and-Tear values to a sensible range

Additional server-side updates have been implemented over the last 24 hours:

- Fixed issue with fines being awarded but unpayable. Newly issued fines should now be payable in any space station allied with the same issuing Major Faction (Alliance, Federation, or Empire)
- Existing unpayable fines will be made payable shortly.
- Allow hardpoints to contain enough ammunition for the point defence turrets
- Number of reliability and performance improvements
- Stopped fines being generated when a reward is given on completing a mission

For me, the price is justified. As you say, the trailer and the game are "so amazing", and I agree. It's everything I ever wanted from a space game.

I paid $80 CAD and feel like I got a bargain. I'm going to be playing this game for years.

What kind of AA are you using if I may ask?

SMAA, I find it to have the best results in the game for me. AA is planned to be better in the game in the future as the game progresses though, also you'll notice some things in the game the AA doesn't seem to affect sometimes (like parts of the ship interior panels and whatnot), I think it's a bug. But yeah, SMAA I have found to be the better option right now.

Nah, the lowest entry for a beta on Kickstarter was 50 pounds, so 80$. Its actually slightly cheaper now.

I paid 35$ for Star Citizen which will also play for years and have access to every release they throw out :)

I can wait though, Elite should launch in half a year.

[...] 3.01 [...]
3.02 is out:
- Fines are payable for all minor factions of a system at any station in that system.
- Fixed Imperial clipper rotates 180 degrees on the docking GUI when launching from a station.
- Fines can now be shown separately for each minor faction.
- Fix occasional crashes on shutdown.
- NVAPI is known to crash on one machine having an Intel HD4600 card, for unknown reasons. Allow users affected by this problem to disable SLI/Crossfire detection (meaning, calls to NVAPI and AGS libraries) by adding <SLICrossfireSupport disableDetection="true" /> to AppConfig.xml.

Server side

- unstick the several dozen Commanders whose travels had been terminated untidily after trading Tea with a Type 9 transporting a Troop of Travelling Tea Traders

Does this game support SLI with the Oculus? I ordered a GTX980 because my GTX690 appears to only be operating in single GPU mode. FPS is pretty jittery in the space stations.

Well Elite should hopefully be out before the end of the year.

Star Citizen might be out by the end of the century. Maybe.

Watch sold! So far, ordered a Thrustmaster T Flight Stick X (plan on using my Razer Orbweaver in left hand), the game (beta), and a SteelCase Leap. My current chair is falling apart! Still on the fence about ordering a Rift. I'm hearing a LOT of opposite sides of the spectrum on it.

That would be one way, but I'm currently planning on having a "runner" ship to jet around between systems, and to keep my other ships stored at fixed locations (game permitting). So I'll typically always bring a ship back to the same place I picked it up from and then use the runner to get to where my other main ships are.

I seem to recall they said something about being able to charter to have your ships moved to a different location. If that's the case, I can hopefully save some credits by only moving my runner instead of something big like an Anaconda or Type-9.

Is it currently possible or is it intended that Frontier are going to allow multiple people to be in a single ship? So that one person pilots and one is on guns or something like that? That would be the coolest.
