Emerald City |OT| The second grittiest show about Oz

who is the girl who was a boy supposed to be then? That character seems out of place in the show so far, like she's from another TV show that accidentally got spliced into this one.

Both Tip and Jack are from the second Oz book. Here's their Wiki entry read at your own risk.

EDIT: Actually the link itself for Jack might be considered a spoiler and I can't properly mask it, easy enough to get to.

HUGE HUGE HUGE spoilers here, BTW.

Oops when I edited it I somehow deleted the end of the sentence. o_O

Who knows how accurate it'll end up being with this show doing their "twist" on things but yeah, if you haven't read the books it could be pretty big spoilers.

Jack is now the Tin Man. Ok.

The doctor who operated him looked like Dorothy's mom or am I going crazy watching this show?

I'm glad Grandpa porked a Chinese Muslim
Does anyone kind of wish Jack would
clap his hands together and start doing alchemy?

I like it.

Me too. I'm not really familiar with or invested in the Wizard of Oz books beyond the first, so this is a neat little story and I don't mind if it's butchering some other existing lore. Even with what is certainly a lower budget than GoT that it's attempting to emulate, I don't really notice it that severely, except perhaps the cheesy looking armor the Wizard's Guard wears. It's a pity that it's almost certainly doomed from the start, particularly with NBC immediately parking it in a Friday slot.

Being a kid in Oz must really suck, everyone seems to be a pedophile. Whats up with the Wizard creeping on a girl that could, quite literally, be his daughter...

I just don't understand the Wizard character at all, he seems to have zero power, knowledge, ability, or anything. He spends every scene just looking confused and lost.

Still fun to watch, but yeah more than a season or two of this show and it would be crashing harder than Once upon a time.

I just finished Episode 1.... and I dont know if I should feel ashamed that I liked it.

Is it downhill from here? The reviews on metacritic seem to be really bad.... but I really enjoyed Episode 1 lol

I like it as well.

I think it would be better if it they'd do it fully as an original Story and cut out the Oz part, but visually it holds up and I'm intrigued in most of the storylines, especially the witches.

I just caught the pilot for this on TV last night.

It wasn't terrible. I was surprised how good at lot of it looked visually. There's some inventive world-building gong on and some nice special effects work/costume design.

The characters are extremely half baked however. Dorothy's interactions with "Lucas" seemed to simply amount to the following.

Dorothy: Hey, who are you?
Lucas: I don't know.
Dorothy: Here are some clothes and a sword.
Lucas: Thanks.
Dorothy: I'm going to Oz to see the Wizard.
Lucas: I guess I'll come.
Dorothy: Cool.

All the characters introduced so far are just such a blank slate. Maybe they'll improve on that later down the line in its first season before it most likely gets itself cancelled.

This is giving me flashbacks to SciFis Tin Man.

This was shockingly good for the first half and then got dreadfully boring in the second.

Her first mistake.

Anyone else pissed off that we haven't seen the lion.gif in the OP on the show yet? We got 3 episodes left. It better show up.

Did they really try to make the lion thing a reveal even though it was so obvious?

LOL. That's what I would expect from this show.

Haven't watched this week's episode yet, going to do so shortly.

Edit: Watched it earlier today, was a fucking mess as usual. Glad there's only 2 episodes left and then it's cancelled most likely. Can't handle more than 1 season of these hatewatch shows.

Just finished watching it.

Yes this is dog.

What a fucking mess. Leaving a cliffhanger for a second season they're never getting LOLOLOLOL

Wasn't the worst series I have watched, but wasn't very good either. The finale just threw a total reset on the show though, maybe minus one big character.

I don't really regret watching it, it was sorta interesting looking at the classic Oz characters I know from a different point of view, but the main actress was boring and awful and the Wizard of Oz was so campy bad that it was sorta funny, and the more interesting characters like Jack, the Lion, and the various witches and the metal mask Queen never really felt satisfying in their arcs.

It is sorta funny that everything bad that happens in Oz is because Dorothy causes it, and her attempts to fix things only ever save the Wizard from dying at the hands of someone else, which also would have fixed everything. Dorothy is literally cancer in walking form.
