Emily Rogers Claims 2020 Will Be A “Great Year” For Nintendo Switch.

NeoGAFs Kent Brockman

Rogers has claimed that 2020 will be a great year for Nintendo Switch. She feels the quality of next year's lineup will be on par with 2017 and 2019, which were "great years" in her opinion:

"2020 should be another great year for Switch.
My opinion is that 2017 and 2019 were great years for Switch. The only "average" year was 2018 (Yes, I'm aware Smash Bros was 2018)."

She reiterates her point in another message, though pointing out that it's the quantity of the first party content that will make 2020 stand out:

"Hehe. But yeah, 2020 should be closer to 2017 and 2019.
In regards to the quantity of first-party content."

And more:

"Probably not. Next year will be a crazy year for me on a personal and emotional level.
I'm glad you had fun with the speculation while it lasted."
"Absolutely, I think 2020 will be just as good as 2017 and 2019.
In 2017, I said Switch will go down as the greatest software library that Nintendo ever had. And I've stuck to that belief every year. I don't say it to be a delusional Nintendo fangirl. I genuinely believe that — in the very end — Switch's software library will wipe the floor with SNES, GameCube, DS, 3DS. And it won't even be close. Not even close at all.
There's still a ton of unannounced games. Switch owners will continue to be bombarded with software (first party, third party, indie)."

Rogers also claimed that Nintendo had created some demos for Star Fox, though they may never turn into a full game:

"About my comments on Star Fox:
What I meant is Nintendo recently did some prototypes/demos with Star Fox. I doubt those demos will turn into a game, but you never know. My point was that Nintendo wasn't giving up on Star Fox. Internally, they're still experimenting with ideas and concepts. Star Fox is in the same camp as Pikmin. They're two IPs that Miyamoto won't let go (I say that as a positive thing)."

Outside of that Mini-Direct leak I don't think he has any creditability anymore.

Plus I doubt anybody other than the people at the very top of Nintendo know about first-party plans.

While I traded in my Switch yesterday, im really hoping for Nintendo to announce and reveal the Switch "pro" console. Games wise, im hoping for a Super Mario 3D World Wii U port and Mario & Rabbids: Kingdom Battle 2 from Ubisoft.

Water is wet. These analysts come out of the woodwork saying very predictable things, then expect credit for them.

I want a switch pro or a price drop. 300 for a dinky little tablet and another 50 for a controller made for adults? No thanks.

More like thing is going to be DOA with next gen consoles releases. There drip feeding of a title a year is far to less to keep me busy with a 300 buck drm box.

Thing was barely playable in handheld mode, my hands would cramp, 2 hours before recharging and some buttons where next to impossible to press if you got bigger hands. Thing is made for midgets. Terrible designed.

Also no BC made it laughable at best.

Should I buy a Switch now or wait for a possible Switch "Pro?" I don't want to dive in the deep end if they're just going to release a new revision.

If a Switch Pro does come out I don't think it'd be any sooner then late 2020. If you have games you wanna play now before it comes out then I would suggest picking one up, however, if you're fine with waiting and getting them all with the Switch Pro it could save you a bit of money.

I mean doa next year with sales.
Don't we have estabilished by now that Switch sales aren't too affected by what goes on in the dedicated home console space. Especially not by $500+ 8K-capable consoles - somehow that doesn't seem what people go after with the Switch.

Jesus Christ, this isn't news. This is just some person hiding behing a pseudonym making predictions and hoping they stick. This time he/she isn't even predicting anything concrete to happen!

They sure do seem to port beg a lot for those games that are on the dedicated home console space.

I got the feeling they both target the same audience and switch never experienced a generation shift. PS5 and Xbox are going to be the next hot thing to move into.

I mean it IS for children.

That's a downside to nintendo fans. They love buying stuff over and over. They also love buying ports of old as fuck games like Call of Juarez.

They're entitled. Some people literally think devs should just 'remove effects' and it'll magically run on switch. I guess Witcher 3 and Wolfenstein were flukes.

Don't get me wrong I like the Switch a lot. Though I only have a handful of exclusives(reason I got it). But I hear "just drop the resolution" a lot when they beg for ports. And they end up looking like shit. But hey at least you can get digital foundry to help you feel better with a shitty looking Switch port

P.S. I try to only stick to exclusives on Switch and limit my time to those exclusives. Though I have high testosterone, too much Switch can affect that and I might get nu-male soy mouth.

Yeah. Turns out games are not consoles.
But you said that's not what people go after with the Switch. But they sure do want all those nice looking PS4 / Xbox / PC games. If that's not what they are going for then what?

That's ALWAYS my reason to get nintendo consoles. Not for some gimped ass 360p port of a third party game.

Based. Keep taking care of yourself.

What I said that people don't go after with the Switch is $500+ tethered consoles. They don't need 4K or 8K visuals either but doesn't mean they don't like the games right?

Am I the only one who thinks the switches game line up is ass?
There's some good exclusives. Xenoblade 2, Breath of The Wild, Octopath, Luigi's Mansion 3 etc. But that's basically it. The eShop is flooded with low effort shovelware shit which makes finding good stuff very difficult. So yeah the Switch game line up isn't ass, but not very far from it though.

If they liked the games so much they'd buy a different console or PC. It's the SAME shit every generation. Everybody knows all the third party games will be with sony, microsoft and pc.

Good on them let's hope they keep up 👍
Me too. Hope port begging is bannable on here like it used to be.

Sure they will keep up. I mean all those 360p barely playable Switch ports are needed after all. What else are they going to play if not ports. They sure aren't getting much new stuff. So they have to beg. Switch owners are the most oppressed when it comes to game content. They need those ports. No matter how terrible they look and play.

Yeah they've basically created their own market. Well even though it's hybrid thy stand alone in the handheld market.

Yeah well, that's simply not true, hence why angry gamers resort to the 360p/barely playable meme response to every 3rd party game Switch gets, and they are many.

Case in point.

I only own BotW, Mario odyssey, smash, Mario kart 8, and Mario maker. Outside of that nothing makes me go crazy that I can't get on ps4 or pc

Minus Mario Maker thts my situation. I rarely play my switch I feel like I shouldn't have bought it. Not saying it doesn't have gd games they just don't attract me. I'm more of a home console gamer. Plus I thought botw was average, I'm not a smash fan and Mario Odyssey was good but idk I don't feel the same about these games the way others do.

Those are all great game though. I just wish there was more. But the Nintendo 1st party stuff is always good

But you guys still cry like babies for all those PC / Xbox / PS4 games. You still can't answer it. You said Switch owners aren't after the 500 dollar console games and that Switch gamers are after different things(while being very oppressed). But they cry for all those games not on the Switch. So clearly Switch owners are after those games and are willing to settle(at full price) for a lesser / botched / shitty experience. Come on! What are Switch owners(very oppressed) after then?

Ok. Go play Death Stranding, Bloodborne, Far Cry 5, Modern Warfare, Borderlands 3, Control, Star Wars, Monster Hunter World, GTA V...
Oh wait... None of those are on switch :messenger_tears_of_joy: :messenger_tears_of_joy: :messenger_tears_of_joy:
Have fun with Wolfenstein 2, Ass Creed, Witcher 3 (hope you played the first 2 but I doubt it), Fartnite, Skyrim, etc.

BotW frustration over weapons is what got me. All I play on my switch is smash mi haven't even opened Mario maker since 2 came out. For all major AAA and third party games I just use my pro.

Hope console warring is bannable on here like it used to be.

Switch already has a vastly better library then PS4/XBO at this point in it's life relative to them in the same timeframe, and we're due to start seeing it hit it's second stride after blowing it's first massive load in 2017. I expect the bulk of that next major batch to come late 2020/first half of 2021, with Animal Crossing and ports/remasters filling up a good chunk of their releases in the first half of 2020.

I don't think he's console warring. JTS said that Switch owners aren't after the 500 dollar console experience and games. But Switch owners (not all of them but the vocal minority) are constantly nagging devs, threads etc. for those PC / PS4 / Xbox games to be ported to Switch. If they get the Switch and aren't after those games then what. But saying that doesn't make sense

I'm pretty sure he was talking about you.

It's not console warring to prove somebody wrong. Don't you have some games to be begging for anyway?
You then list Bloodborne and Death Strading, which are Sony-funded console-exclusive games and malform game names of games on Switch. You are clearly console warring. And no, I have no games to port beg for.

It's still not console warring. I've seen numerous posts begging for BL3 and other games to be ported to Switch etc.
