Emily Rogers: Splatoon Switch is not a sequel, allegedly. Same for Mario Kart.

Will have to double dip on MK8 simply because it's the best couch coop game I've ever had, but it'll sting. That being said, it's clearly the better approach to ensuring a nice amount of critically acclaimed games from a failed platform have a new chance. However, if they weren't system sellers for Wii U, I doubt they can be for switch.

I wouldn't be buying Mario kart 8 or Splatoon again unless they're budget titles, no. And even then it's a big maybe. I've basically stopped playing them both anyway so they're an enhanced version is not a draw to me.

Smash is a little more likely I guess because I didn't touch any of the dlc for that.

It's not something I can say whether I'll drop money on because we dont know the price or details of the games yet, but it doesn't look good yet.

This topic is a total opposite of the other thread where everyone is unhappy there's no bc and they cant play wii U games on Switch.
 
I hope there's a number of improvements to Splatoon. One notable one is better gamepad controls because that is downright the worst thing about that game, it's honestly pretty bad. Do that and I'm in for double dipping.

Makes me glad that I didn't buy any of the smash DLC. Hopefully all of my friends will actually buy a switch this time so we can play Smash again haha.
 
I dunno, if the new Splatoon has changed so much that you can't play cross-platform due to gameplay changes, I'm not really sure you can call it just a port.
 
And I'll buy all of them.

I wonder how "enhanced" they'll all be. Splatoon seemed to have quite a bit of new changes
 
I suppose that Nintendo can always make the 3 games (maybe not Smash because let Sakurai do something different like Kid Icarus Uprising) into some "extended life span" sort of ordeals like most MMO's, MOBAs, the first Splatoon (only even moar), TF2 and Overwatch.

I'm ignoring Street Fighter V because that's had a shit post launch development

Where they can either release smaller downloadable content on a consistent basis or bigger ones via expansion packs and the game evolves more into its own thing with how it changes over a year or 2.

I'm still super shocked at a "enhanced" rerelease already looking this much better. I was dead set on it being a sequel. You don't play as much of this game as I do and see that trailer without going "actual sequel" right off the bat. :lol

This. If they say according to your Nintendo account you purchased Mario Kart Wii U digital. The switch version will cost you $10 or $20. I'd jump on that, especially if there is extra content. I might have to think about it if I have to buy the games at full price.
 
Super Splatoon, huh?
I'm already sold on that enhanced Splatoon looking the way it does and I'm crazy enough to "double dip" on Smash even if they add only one more new character. Hell, just Ice Climbers, Wolf and Pichu as returning veterans would be good enough too.

As for Mario Kart... it has that new item system going for it and a new character, but they'll have to add two more cups and like 8 more characters at the least for me to even consider buying that one again.
 
First year gonna be a lot of ports. It's not surprising, they want to make sure there's a steady stream of games. It's no different than Xbox or PS4, really.

For me, I'm happy with Mario and Zelda, but I do hope we learn about some more new games next year.

I'm a Wii U owner, so I can kind of empathise. Being able to take Bayonetta, Zelda TP/Windwaker HD, Splatoon, Wonderful 101, Xenoblade, etc. etc. on the go, will provide an incredibly significant virtue, and make them significantly more worthwhile than your standard port.

I imagine I'll be double-dipping on many of them, and would do similar for major 3DS 'super ports'.
 
Honestly, outside Battle Mode and the AI, I don't see how they can improve on Mario Kart 8, so more of that game isn't a bad idea. If they treat it as a "platform" and had content over the course of Switch's lifespan, it would be a great idea.
Same for Splatoon.

Quite a good plan I think, most consoles only launch with a few first party launch titles if that. Having some ports of cool games and third party stuff to flesh it out will give more options, plus if this thing takes off it'll be good more people will get to experience them.
 
I'm not 100% convinced that Splatoon Switch is an "enhanced" version of the original game. There's quite a bit of new stuff: ability to change hairstyle and pants, redesigned spawn points, new maps, new poses, etc. In addition to all of that, the gameplay will have to be adjusted somewhat substantially to accommodate the lack of a Gamepad.
 
Guessing iit's more of an in engine sequel. Single player should be new and multiplayer will bring some new maps, guns and skills to the mix but retain a lot of the old stuff.

Mario Kart adding 4 extra cups as an extra DLC season included would be great, probably better than a new stand alone 8 cups game.

Smash will probably be relatively unchanged. Maybe a few bugs and ui issues. Maybe tweak classic mode and stuff, but not much beyond that.
 
Well, the good news out of that is there's a big chance those are launch titles now I guess. I'd be disappointed if I had already played these on WiiU though.
 
Obviously with the Wii U install base being so small that not many have experienced those titles and Nintendo feels they will be new enough to many people to count as a new game. With that said, please port Tropical Freeze and Captain Toad!

That's pretty much a brand new game. And if it has a new single player then it should be called a new game.

As supplementary for people who missed out previously, completely worthless to the core fan who has already played them before.

PS4 has plenty of remasters but Sony never used them to showcase their new system. If their launch lineup does wind up being mostly Wii U ports (including Zelda) I feel it'll be a kick in the teeth to the Wii U owner as it won't be offering a new experience.
