You know what is making my Saturday so cool? Finally getting to play Kaneko's arcade version of Bonk's Adventure in MAME. (aka B.C. Kid Arcade Version in Europe, aka Kyukyoku!! PC Genjin Special Arcade Version in Japan) I have been waiting like 2 years for this, even since I saw pictures of it on that unmamed games page. I was not aware that it was working in MAME until last night :D

there seem to be quiet a few people that had no idea that there was a Bonk Arcade coin-op game.

Back in 1994, an arcade version of Bonk’s Adventure was released in Japan by Kaneko. This was an updated version of the PC-Engine original with better graphics, sound and two-player simultaneous support. The game consisted of 21 short stages of varying themes and differed slightly in gameplay from the original. Below you will find photos and videos from the game.

another nice description from someone on TNL forum

Yesterday, I got one of Kaneko's rarest PCBs in existence. Kyukyoku!! PC Genjin is a 1993 arcade game based on the TG16/PCE hero, Bonk!

The game play is well...like the other Bonk games...almost. Most of the console game mechancs are intact while others are radically different. First of all, the smilies that you used to collect for points are actually still for points, but now, you stack them on top of your head and use them to attack. Also, by pushing down on the joystick, you hide your head-to make for easier dodging. A big part of the scoring strategy is by finding a ball (like basketball, football, soccer ball, etc.) and taking it to the "goal" to get a bonus. That bonus depends on 1)How big the ball is and 2)How high the "goal" is when you go through it. (Sound like Super Mario World, anyone?). The biggest change is that this game is two-player simultaneous. Extra attacks can be done as well. Before I forget, you can select any path you want. There are 21 stages total. For every three consecutive you clear you can fight a boss. Fairly chalenging game without coming off as too easy. Then again, that's how the other games were.

The graphic style is pretty much the same as the other games except for having a bit more animation (what you expect from a 68000/Z80) processor). The cast of shell heads and other prehistoric minions are back as well as some new enemies. Bosses? They're in there-just don't expect too much of a cake walk, though.

If everything else is like the console games, the music is probably like that too, right? Yes it is. Is it bad? Not at all. Very catchy-especially if you liked the tunage in the other games as well.

Overall, I really like this game. I've always been curious about this game since hearing about it long ago in EGM. Definitely a collector's piece and great game for those who like some classic platform action in their arcade games!

from someone else
I hate going from never knowing something existed to needing it more than anything in the span of one post.
heh, that's kinda how *I* felt after seeing the wonderful looking pictures from the flyer on that UNMAMED Arcade game page :lol

Can any of you pm me with help on how to find some of these classics?
I'd love to mame some of you online to. My mame doesn't have online you just move a folder onto the mame icon to play the games.
I really want to play that arcade golden axe made during the saturn era.

This just in:

KiNeSiS asks for where to find pirated games.

We're waiting to see if the mods take action. Back to you, Ron!

Wow, it's a good thing we all have our copies of the original arcade version motherboards, otherwise we wouldn't be able to play in good conscience!
