Ever read a walkthrough that made you stop wanting to play the game?

Man this has happened to me more times then I'd like.

Final Fantasy 9 - Got to the 2nd disc, read about all the stuff I missed, started over, read about the jump rope game I had to do to get a card, stopped playing.

Xenosaga - Got to the end of the game, decided to look at a walkthrough to see what I missed, find out I missed all these goodies I could've stolen from bosses, decided to give up playing the game.

Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne - Sob sob...man is this one painful. I'm near the end, but I've missed a lot of monsters, I don't like the skills my main character has, and reading about the final dungeon squashed any hope of me playing it.

Breath of Fire V: Dragon Quarter - I was so hooked on the story and gameplay, then read about the consequences of using the dragon transformation and I said screw it.

Suikoden 3 - I read about the ending, and I stopped playing it for over a year. But because I love the series so much, I toughed out the end and I don't regret it, fantastic game with huge flaws.

What about you guys?

Checking the MGS:Twin Snakes FAQ and finding out that there's no reward for getting all dog tags

Havent touched it since, and dont plan to in the future

Final Fantasy 7 - Reading about Aeris dying.. it made me WANT to play it upto there so I could laugh then I stopped when it happened.

Joke.

No game has really made me stop just because I read a guide about a part I missed or something else.

Uh, why do you read endings for games you're currently playing?

And the answer is no, or maybe something similar to what Wario64 said.

No, but over the years I've found that reading walkthroughs really limits my enjoyment of games so I don't do it anymore unless I'm godawfully stuck. Currently I'm playing Metal Arms and god knows how many upgrades I've missed, but I'm having more fun, so there..

Actually, I really hate how some FAQs will detail story elements. WRITE A FUCKING FANFIC INSTEAD YOU ASS. Don't retell the story. I just want to know why I'm confused, not accidentally see something that spoils the game.
I was stuck somewhere in Chrono Cross, and I saw the bit about
Harle leaving
and that just pissed me off.

I was going through my enormous backlog of PS1 rpgs, and I was stuck in some horrible terrible worthless game. What was it called? I can't remember. It was bad. I think I blocked it out. Gran- something. A ten hour game where the hero meets the plucky princess and the tough punk girl and they go on an adventure to save the floating worlds. Blah.

Reading the faq was like pulling teeth.

Oh, if you're interested...it prompted a journal entry.

How would you rather have them write them? Like make up codes or some shit? "Go to House #46AC08" instead of "Go to Jack's house"? That would be a pain in the ass both to read and write.

Granstream Saga. AND YOU CAN DIE FOR THAT STATEMENT.

As for walkthroughs, I did read these ones on GameFAQs....I think they were by....CVXFREAK? Yeah, really bad.

Just say "Go to Jack's house."
Don't say "Go to Jack's house where he'll reveal that you're his grandson and then fuck your team-mates up the ass with his magical staff."

When I got to the last Bowser in Mario 64 and heard through IRC that the reward for actually finishing the game was a picture of peach giving you a cake or some such bullshit, I said screw this and didn't bother finishing him off.

Same goes for the yoshi OMG LOTS OF LIVES thing for getting all the stars. What a gyp.

Mind you, I was pretty tired of the game in general.

Nah, GS Saga was 100% bonafide crap, although I liked the purple haired broad

More: and for the record, I don't like it when walkthroughs/strategy guides leave out vital information in order to keep the guide spoiler free. Thanks for not putting in anything about the Ultimecia fights in your FFVIII book so that I wouldn't know what to do when I fought her the first time, Bradygames

But where do you draw the line? What if it's not as clear-cut as "Go to Jack's house"? If you're deep within an FAQ, you're behind enemy lines.

I do think it's utterly retarded when they put spoilers right up there in the table of contents, though.

I don't generally read the endings, just items/quests/weapons I've missed...just finding out I missed them pisses me off to no end and just makes want to quit in frustration instead of playing it over again to get that one item.

Funny story from a friend about spoilers from FF7:

* friggin bastard friend of mine "oh did you get to the point where aerith dies yet" i'm like "omg WHAT?!!!!!!!!!!!"

he's like "err nevermind, she dont die" * :lol I'm not sure, but that might have been me :lol if it was...SORRY MAN!!! :D

Maybe that's god's way of telling you not to fucking read walkthroughs.

I guess, but I'll heartily admit when I'm licked, and sometimes, I just can't figure something out.

I'm proud to say that was probably my fault. And I'd do it again, by god.

I didn't get all 120 stars for yoshi on the roof, i did because the game was so fucking great. Although the 100 coins in the clockwork level were a major PITA, as were 3-4 other stars.

On topic, no. I only read them when i'm terribly stuck, and only that tiny part that helps me to continue with the game.

Reading the Castlevania II chapter of Jeff Rovin's "How to Win at Nintendo" made me not want to touch the game. It sounded so complicated.

Don't feel too good. I didn't mind seeing the bitch leave.

Ugh, don't forget the bad official walkthroughs either...

I'm looking at you Final Fantasy 9...who the FUCK wants to stop playing and go online for additional information when the whole point of buying the walkthrough in the first place was to have it in front of you so you wouldn't NEED to go to the computer to look it up???

If I had read the Walkthrough for Wind Waker I would have never even have played the game.

Conversely, if it wasn't for a walkthrough, I never would have gotten anywhere in Majora's Mask.

Dragon Quest 3 -

So I gotta go create a character that I'm not going to use and kick one of my party members out for the time being so that I can ship him off somewhere? Uh, no.

I had played through about 10 hours of Pop:WW before I read a faq about some puzzle I was having trouble with. Then I realized I had missed 3 Life Upgrades (and I finished Pop:SoT finding only *one* LU, that feeling of missing cool stuff sucked) and spending another 2 hours getting lost and finding that shit then having to do long laps of half the island to get back to where I was supposed to be really dampened my enthusiasm.

I kept playing, but the self-imposed backtracking was dreary and annoying enough to make me stop playing for a couple of days. If it hadn't been for the faq I likely wouldn't have done all that, and the rest of the game I kept checking the damn faq every 15 minutes to make sure I didn't miss another one. It did hamper my enjoyment a bit, but maybe I wouldn't have beaten the game without at least most of the upgrades.

I think I finished the game off with something like 111 stars and without finishing the last Bowser. I was feeling bored around 100 or so, I think. It was a long time ago, though.

I think the last game I actually got *everything* in was either Super Metroid or Mario World. Even for my favorite series of games (Metroid and Zelda) I don't bother anymore unless it's an 'accident,' like it was for you in Mario 64.

Oddly enough it's allowed me to enjoy games a lot of other people felt were boring because of too much drudgery in the post-completion collection. Mario Sunshine comes to me. Blue coins what?

I'm kinda the same way. Except I looked ahead and see there's about 10,000 bosses from where I am now
Dante.

The game started off nicely, but now it's reminding me way too fucking much of Hybrid Heaven, and I don't see it getting too much better.
