Everybody's Gone to the Rapture Steam listing updated with banner image

For what it is worth, I recall The Chinese Room saying that their deal with Sony didn't forever preclude them doing a PC version at some point down the line.

Will be interesting to see who is the publisher. Doesn't matter too much as far as this one title is concerned, but it would be a good indication that they plan to publish more titles on PC/Steam if "Playstation Mobile" is the publisher on this one too.

I don't remember that at all. I remember them saying it's 100% up to Sony, and that they'll try to ask Sony if they'll allow a PC release.

Just to be clear from few interviews and Twitter conversations from former co-founder Jessica Curry, The Chinese Room and Sony were not and maybe they are still not in good relationship. And now they are working on PC port based on SteamDB that is for me really strange.

P.S. Danganronpa entries are also receiving regular updates since leak. :D

Anybody know what put them in a bad relationship?

It doesn't looks so bad in the end :)

EDIT : Ha you saw them too. But you know, I think if there was something serious you wouldn't have any christmas exchange on Twitter at all.

Nope but it was serious enough that even Christmas wishes on Twitter between Shue and Jessica were awkward.

They obviously still like eachother though

(´-`).。oO(I love @jessicacurry2 , even though we had a toxic relationship this past year...)

for me there is already a bridge and we'll cross it again one day

Edit: Beaten >.<

I doubt this would be an exclusive, since TheChineseRoom was a PC-only SE.
Also I don't know how good the game did on PS4, I read several review and the game seems not so good as "walking simulator", so a PC release was pretty much sure.

So, it was published by Sony.... could this be an evolution of the pub fund? Provide support, publish, but ultimately hold no ownership?

Sony own the IPs; it's presumably just that they're becoming a bit more willing to explore other platforms, and honestly I expect sales of these games on console are so slow by now that giving them a late release on PC will barely affect software sales on PS4.

Cant wait for the eventual Uncharted or Horizon release on PC.

I don't see that happening because they are tentpole releases which sell the hardware. But these smaller games make a lot of sense, once their profitability on consoles is played out.

Out of interest, how was Helldivers on PC? I thought it was a superb game on PS4 but it didn't seem to make much noise on PC.

Leak continues to be confirmed. FFX pls.

Steamspy has it at around 119,000 owners so it did pretty well.

Helldivers has been doing well. It debuted with like 40 or 50k and managed to basically double that over the course of the Steam sale despite not having a discount.

Well, FFX/X-2 (and yeah SE will sell those bundled at 99.9%, because otherwise would mean totally rework the PS4 master, since there are several boni added like Eternal Calm and the mini-game for FFX-2) is pretty much confirmed by the fact FFIX is going to be released.
SE released all their FF (excluding 7 and 8) in a progressive order, from III to VI, so now there's IX, after this X/X-2.

So is Sony going to release these small titles from now on PC? or is these just part of the deal they have with the chinese room?

I was thinking about making a topic about this, but I have no evidence - I reckon TCR have signed up with Sony for another game (as it seems Rapture was very successful), and that's the reason for Jessica Curry leaving TCR. I read a comment from Shu Yoshida a few weeks ago saying something like "Our relationship turned really toxic in the last year, but I wish her well in the future", and that got me thinking that Curry's departure is because she doesn't want to work with him any more, while it probably makes sense for the company to stick with Sony. That's all I have to go on so it's very little and a big assumption on my part (especially as prominent people leave companies all the time once a big project is finished), but I wouldn't be surprised if that's the case.

Regardless, it will probably (hopefully) be at least 18 months before we find out about TCR's next project. We knew about Rapture years ago, and I'm not a fan of hype cycles which are 2-3 years or more.

EDIT - I see Jarod already pasted the images of Shu's tweet in post #59.

...huh? Sony owns the IP and this would be the second SCE IP to ever release on PC. How was this "pretty much sure"? Or are you talking about after the Steam leaks?

It seems Sony is going to start publishing their smaller 2nd party Indie published PSN games on Steam now.

So Microsoft will publish some of their titles on Win10 while Sony will publish some of their smaller games on Steam.

Glad I didn't get past a couple minutes of the PS4 copy I grabbed on sale now that this is confirmed. The ps4 performance left a lot to be desired.

Maybe their contract with Sony always allowed for a PC version. Sony bought the exclusive console rights to Street Fighter 5 but is fine with the PC version, this could be a similar situation.

Funny how that goes. For me it was a terrible experience. Bland, incredibly slow, only slightly more interaction than a screensaver. Borderline non-game. Well, I guess now more people will get to walk it.

Sit back and relax type of game for me. Love it. I knew what I was getting into tho... after keeping up on it. It's basically that....walk, explore.

This game should look beautiful on a decent pc (which i don't have).

I feel like playing this game again (on PS4) for the third time. Such an awesome experience.

The Steam leak, and also I think Sony offers to those indie devs the possibility to put their game on PC IF the console version is exclusive for PS4. This would explain why there are so many indies available only on PC/PS4, like The Witness, Helldiver, Rapture, probably Journey, Grim Fandango (at least for now) etc.

Its a very different case, Sony owns this IP, they dont own SF.

Looks like they are just putting some smaller games on PC to gather impressions and reactions. I like cuz its a great game and more people should play it.

You're mixing up Sony IPs and third party console exclusives. Sony putting their own games like Rapture and Journey on Steam is notable as it has never been done before Helldivers. Games like Grim Fandango, The Witness, Boundless, Paragon showing up on PC is business as usual.

Jesus am I happy about this. One of my favorite games of 2015 but it had some serious performance hiccups and playing first-person with a controller is always a slog.

Welcome home.

That is not surprising. They said if Sony allowed it, they would release this on PC.

It's a first-party game made by a small team working with Santa Monica while signed to a multi-game exclusivity deal. We had absolutely no reason to believe this would happen.

Oh, yeah, you are right.
Anyway I think Sony just did the right thing on releasing those games on PC, simply because, soon or later, the life of a game will end, expecially on console.
Let's take Journey as example:

-released on PS3
-discounted several times
-released on PS4 (people who bought it on PS3 received it for free, while PS4 owners needed to pay for it)
-discounted several times

The next step will be releasing it on Plus, and at that point the game will be pretty much dead (from a marketing's point of view, I mean, I doubt after including it in Plus, the game will sell so many copies)

By releasing it on PC, a new life cycle will start (release on full price or with a little discount, further discounts following).

This game is a big part of the reason why I bought a PS4, and I don't regret it one bit.

Hope the Steam release can help it find a wider audience.
And maybe a mod for faster walking speed.

There needs to be a sprint option. Even the slightly walking faster button was slow as hell.

I'm not sure about actual sprint, but the default walking speed should be a lot faster - I'd say a bit faster than the 'run' speed should be the standard. Sprinting around would spoil the atmosphere, but it certainly could do with a quicker pace. I'm sure someone will take care of that with a mod.

That's strange. The PS4 version is 60 fps, correct? A quick Google search for performance issues, returns people saying it runs smoothly. The Vita version, on the other hand, wasn't so good.

Sprint should've been unlocked after completion. Not sure I'm going for Platinum trophy if I need to trudge through the game again for the collectibles. I enjoyed the narrative but let me run around for replays.
