EVO 2017 Player's Choice Game - [Ended] UMVC3 wins #SometimesEvilWins

Oh, Pokken has more individual donations now. That's... neat I guess. (Or donors, I assume it doesn't keep track of who's who though.)
 
I always liked the story that the FGC was just forced to consider Melee a fighting game because of their numbers and support of the game, not that there was any actual acknowledgement of equal status/fighting gameness. Aris was telling that story on his stream.

I don't hate Melee, hell I tried watching that Grand Finals with Hungry Box and Armada, but it didn't do anything for me.

We all know that story is false because the FGC still doesn't consider Melee a fighting game.

There are far better matches than the grand finals. It just meant a lot to Hbox to win, which is why its used in many clips. I doubt any of the people who find it uninteresting have any interest in finding out why people enjoy it either.

I watch Melee on a near-daily basis and I think it's one of the greatest matches of all time, divorced from the context of HBox's desire to win an EVO. It's not as interesting to spectate the whole way through as a lot of the other greats, but the mindgames/neutral was insane, and Hungrybox's ability to clutch out the win is pretty much unparalleled by anything else.

im speaking purely from an unfamiliar spectator standpoint
 
The more I think about it, the more this seems like a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation for Pokken.

If it loses, then obviously it loses and doesn't show up at EVO. But, I'm not sure if that's as bad as if it wins and has the traditionally FGC hate it for all eternity for beating Marvel. If it keeps UMvC3 out of it's final year at EVO, the Pokken community will never hear the end of it, and I figure the amount of hate thrown its way will make the hate the Smash scene gets seem tame by comparison.

I hope they never do one of these fundraising drives again honestly. Pitting all of these communities against each other just breeds so much anger between them when they should all be working together.
 
Cool to see the Pokkén community coming through and support the game, practically keeping up with Marvel in this donation drive.
Really enjoyed watching it last year, would love to see it again. Would make it the best EVO Sunday ever for me.

If Pokken wins at least the event will be early enough to avoid most booing. :P
 
Will probably skip this Evo if Marvel loses. I like games like Melee and Guilty Gear, but Marvel is the main focus for me.
 
The numbers don't really mean much until the last day, and even then it's really like the last 15 minutes. Everyone going to do their big money snipes then just like last time.

Yeah, but a big portion was last day, last few hours even. There were crazy fundraisers and stuff. Though I think they were in the 40ish k range each in the preceding days?
