Evolution 2014 Thread 2: Evil doesn't prevail July 13th - Final day

what exactly happened between last year and this year, when did the number of people shitting on other games suddenly go up in this thread

I think people were willing to let it slide just because they thought it was going to be a one-time thing last year and wouldn't have to deal with it after that, but now that it's becoming a fixture of fighting game tournaments, the knives have come out.

What happened to these announcements? First one was supposed to be after KI, and then Smash.
We got some of them, one was the Tom Cannon award after Smash. That's pretty much it.

The post-KI announcement was the new KI forum.

The "real" announcement time is after this, which is probably just going to be Tekken 7 and a Shoryuken picture.

COME ON CHRIS G! YOU CAN'T LET F CHAMP WIN AGAIN! OR FLOCKER! GOD DAMN IT, WHY ARE THERE TWO RETURNING CHAMPIONS IN TOP 8? YOU ONLY HAD TWO JOBS SMEDWICKS!

Just an FYI for those not in the know:

Prog has been dealing with health issues ever since earlier this year at Apex 2014 (he had a cane and was limping around a little). He had a cancer scare after that event which he then sought to get surgery for -- he thought (after the surgery) he would be fine but once May started he began to realize he probably can't commentate much anymore. He already took a long hiatus after RoM7 (Revival of Melee 7).

A few weeks ago at MLG Anaheim he was limping around at the venue and even had to stop commentating early on Day 1 of the event. Throughout that weekend he felt awful but he still commentated for the community.

Cancer runs through prog's family and although he doesn't have it yet (he's been treated for it) he, however, has polyps in his colon. So it's very, very difficult for him to move around sometimes. That's why he said some days he feels like 90% while others he feels like 50%.

He had to retire from commentary for these reasons. D1 was upset because he's barely gotten to commentate with prog all year and it was prog's last year -- they're real close friends and everything.

So now you know. I hope people who were a little ignorant on it read this lol.
It's atleast a bit comforting to know it's benign.. Hope he eradicates it.. Thanks for the info..

I presume you're from the west coast or don't have to work on monday like a grown adult.

Congratulations.
Just watch the damn archives, or wait for it on Youtube. Also some of us are on shift work, I work 12 hour days sometimes longer if I have to take care of sailors. You can drop the condescending comments.

As someone on the East Coast who knows tournaments run late, and who absolutely needs to see finals day live, I took Monday off of work.

They pushed the 1st game up an hour from previous years, and still they're gonna finish way late.
I don't understand these guys.

Yeah, BlazBlue, weirdly enough, has by far been the hypest EVO moment this year. So many barely holding on moments. It was amazing how close every single match was. And the comebacks were NUTS.

I admit I'm not a MvC player, but shit is it a boring spectator sport for someone who has no clue what's going on.

Doesn't take long to grasp what's happening at all.

Three characters
Other two characters can be used as assists, extend a combo, add pressure, or do a surprise attack
Infinite combos build meter.
Meter = specials
Specials that take the equivalent of three meters usually kill if life bar is at half
X-Factor boosts attack power and speed

There you go, that's Marvel 3. Fundamentals and character strengths/weaknesses vary, just like every other fighting game.

I presume you're from the west coast or don't have to work on monday like a grown adult.

Congratulations.

You can always watch archives. Not like it's that bad for the east coast when you have euro monsters completely screwing up their sleep schedule to watch this live.

Damn I hope I can stay up for Ultra finals. It'll probably finish at 7am or something.

Maybe I could use Marvel as a chance to take a nap.
