Didn't like it on GP and sure as heck not gonna buy it on PS5.
Unless it comes out as a finished product on ps5 that would hurt!! Even though Xbox would get it also the fact that their experiences wouldn’t be hampered like Xbox has been since launch

The more I think of it, the more Jez is probably right on this.

How does it make sense to allow CoD to be 100% multiplatform, and other developers are forced to remain exclusive? And yet these same studios would have to layoff employees if their games don't reach target numbers/performance. That's totally unfair to their other studios.

So in a way, did Microsoft acquiring Activision essentially make them fully commit to third party in some strange twist of fate?
>$70 billion in acquisitions with no other way to recoup it made them do this, not wanting everyone at the office to feel warm and fuzzy inside.

I guess I fail to see how significant a story this is

Because it's really important that MS is going to put their self-described "Game of the Generation" on Playstation within 1 year of release on its own platform. That alone is explosive news. But it's also the reason "WHY" that makes it a significant story. One of the biggest video game stories in the last 20 years!!!

If it ends up including halo or gears, fine that is big news. Starfield was always planned for PlayStation, only coming into question with the buyout. Most of the dev work should have been in the bag already.

Seeing Halo on PS5 is going to be fucking wild.

Any more weird than seeing Sonic on Nintendo or seeing Sony promote Shenmue 3? Or Microsoft owning Crash and Spyro and Sony owning Bungie?

Stuff happens in gaming. It is what it is.

Sega wasn't what it once was when it went multiplatform. Crash and Spyro have changed hands from Universal to Vivendi to Activision and to essentially Microsoft. Bungie isn't the same company it was when they were with Microsoft and Halo isn't the same game either.

Yeah these people are truly a special breed.

Phil told them that he was gonna buy all these studios and release all these games day 1 on gamepass for $20 with zero catches and they didn't blink . Anyone with the common sense of a 8 year old that spent more than 2 seconds thinking on that has long known it was too good to be true.
There were a few on this very site who love to mention Microsoft's valuation and money and were gleefully jizzing away BUT then came the true intentions of MS and they have faded into the shadows crying and reassuring themselves that everything will be OK and MS is our friend.

Spiderman 2 only needed to sell 7 million units because Marvel is getting 17% per game sold. If it was a new IP it would have needed around 5 million sold to profitable.

There's always risk in business. You can't escape that. Even Nintendo big AAA games have risk to them.
Not really. Nintendo games cost nowhere near the same as Sony AAA games. For the cost of one Spiderman 2 Nintendo can probably make 4-5 AAA games easily. Nintendo can probably get away with 1-2 million sales and be very profitable.

Colin Moritorty said this about Gamepass 2 weeks ago after the Larian CEO made his statement about subscription services on consoles. It's time stamped.

I was / am really looking forward to Colin finally playing some xbox games and hearing his honest opinion after the initial "this was what all the fuss was about" fanboy spouting he will do at the start.

I have a lot of respect for that man, and find his opinion, although completely fan driven at times, invaluable.

I did. When it was announced, I couldn't wait.

Then MS bought Zenimax, and I was pissed.

Then Starfield finally came out, and I realised I wasn't missing out on anything. If it does happen to turn up on PS5, I'll be skipping it.

Elder Scrolls 6 on the other hand ...

annnnnnnnd this is why they fucked up big time.

They have already lost MILLIONS of sales they would have gotten from many day 1 gamers who wanted it, but shit ....after the reviews on steam, so many reviews, how the fuck is that PS5 port looking now? Consider this, if it was day 1 on all major platforms, you would have bought it on PS5 and shit I probably would have too (granted I own it on PC and buy most of their games on PC anyway lol, but besides the point) a sale was still lost by a consumer that wanted to play it based on wanting to see what it was about.

may be you would have liked it, maybe not, but once the cat is out of the bag and you see that you "wasn't missing out on anything" its too late to regain that spark of interest.

They fucked up already on this one as I'm sure many are in the same boat as you btw. I'm like that a lot of times. Like, OH SHIT, that looks like a fun game, but I don't have any time. I'll wait till a sale (sees its really fucking bad) never mind lol

But there's still risk for Nintendo too. There's a reason they don't make a new Mario Cart game every 3 years.

Of course. Dumb Xbox fans have not bought the game since they played it on Gamepass, so financially the game was very unsuccessful, so in order to make some money game need to be sold on other consoles.

You want exclusives: buy your games. Devs won’t be making games that are not bought, I can’t even comprehend how Xbox fans don’t understand this very simple fact.

It's not for Xbox fans to understand, it's up to Xbox management.

Just remember the “Elder Scrolls 6” trailer is going to start with “from the people who brought you Starfield.” Just remember that when you start having FOMO.

Jumped ship way back when to playstation as I realised Microsoft wasn't interested in pursuing single player games or Japanese games.

Starfield is... ok. But it's not ever gonna be a system seller. It's just too much the same Bethesda game with a different skin. If Fallout and skyrim didn't exist maybe it would be but that's obviously not the case.

They can't possibly have made the money they expected. So selling other places is very appealing I'd think. It will never move consoles and it's already over on xbox, so why not.

Since they going third party lets hope that elder scrolls 6 marks a new beginning for the studio, new engine and etc... new writers I hope also ... if is the same thing copy pasted ... dont care ... es 4 and skyrim where excellent but things have to evolve.

It'll come - MS was pretty clear yesterday. But Starfield is a bland game.

It's not the 'exclusivity" that's limiting sales... It's just not interesting, innovative or engaging. If it had been multiplat day one it would have been a better but still underwhelming title for Bethesda. As it is a delayed release will just harm sales now because PS buyers already know it's not great. Best MS can do is to try to get Sony to put it on PS Plus and take the money.

It's good for helping you sleep though - all that ASMR music and walking around empty landscapes really is narcolepsy inducing.

Not really otherwise I would have bought the game.

They were pretty clear that Starfield not coming to other platforms wasn't an impossibility.

If they said never ever I would have accepted that. But they didn't say that so it's definitely possible.

If you got proof otherwise please provide it.

He doesn't have proof. He just has nothing else to say other than we want the game so bad. Just let him have it, it's all they have at this point.

Why would they dump their entire catalogue on playstation Day 1. Apart From the fact it costs money for a ps5 port they'd all canabalise each others sales. Same reason Sony doesn't dump every title on PC all at once a drip feed is the most profitable.
