Extremely Dubious Rumor: Sony briefly reveals Syphon Filter 4

Has been posted numerous times in the past two years--the Bend is working on Uncharted NGP, and their producer is on record saying the franchise was killed because no one bought the PSP versions, even when they were ported to the PS2.

Still need to play Logan's Shadow, but I adored the first PSP game.

I even LOVED the oft-maligned PS2 game. If you can forgive the somewhat grindy nature and awkward mechanics, it was one of the most comprehensive and team-focused online games ever conceived. It did require three competent teammates, but with a good group, going for medals, it was fabulous.

That stinks. I bought them :(

SCE London making Syphon Filter could be interesting. That Eight Days trailer was amazing.

No, original developer (Bend) or nothing.

Yeah but they were fun for their time, couldn't stop playing after finally being allowed to lend them from my uncle back then.

If true, my mind, rejoicing

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-05-31-syphon-filter-4-revealed-for-ps3

Accidentally revealed PlayStation 3 game Syphon Filter 4 aims "revolutionise" stealth by using a brand new fancy-pants engine developed by Sony London.

A proper unveiling will happen at E3, with a full release pencilled for Q4 2012.

That's according to a supposed pulled announcement on the US PlayStation blog. The details were recorded by members of the Giantbomb and GameTrailers forums.

Sony Europe told Eurogamer it refused to comment on "rumour and speculation".

Syphon Filter is a third-person action game in the ilk of Metal Gear Solid and Splinter Cell: you're a stealthy soldier who achieves the impossible. In Syphon Filter's case, you fill the boots of Gabe Logan.

Syphon Filter and Syphon Filter 3 (no SP2) are both available from the PlayStation Store (when that itself is once more available). Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror and Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow are PSP games, and good ones at that.

Maybe! Apparently the stealth game was accidentally revealed on the PlayStation.blog, but then taken down. There were apparently discussions of this on the PlayStation Community Forums, but they too were taken down.

According to a post on GameTrailers.com, the game is going to be a PS3 title and will be out in late 2012.

Sony told Eurogamer that it would not comment on "rumor and speculation".

Expect more info at E3 about Syphon Filter 4—if true. Dun dun dun.

According to some reports the game was disclosed on Playstation.com's U.S site for an hour or so, before someone realised the gaff and promptly took it down. The information the site published revealed the game was using a new graphics engine developed by SCE London, and that the new title would infiltrate in Q4 2012.

Q4. 2012. Don't let me down, Sony.

So, the original GB post is just a forum post, so... I dunno. Hope its legit. Eurogamer and Kotaku reported on it though

I've never played any SF game, i always wanted to though. Well, i'm happy to see that SCE London is back to making action game again. It seemed like they were going the way of Rare.

I only ever played the first one because it was on tons of demo discs for the PS1. Using the Tazer to set people on fire was way ahead of its time.

I feel a little old when some of you show no acknowledgment/respect for SP2, one of the finest spy games of all time.

PS1 era games should be mandatory before you start playing video games. Government should include it in HS education degree.
haha so true

Maybe it's a PSP to PS3 port with shitty polygon count and flat as shit lighting, it seems people are more than happy with PS2/PSP to PS3 ports nowadays.

Brand new PS3 game or GTFO.

Agreed. Full-on Awesome-as-Uncharted SF!

Uncharted x Splinter Cell: Conviction = SF PS3?

This makes me wonder what a Syphon Filter made by Naughty Dog would be like.

Honestly, after Bend I'd trust either Naughty Dog or Sony London with a third person action game like this, so I wouldn't mind if it's in the hands of London. Especially after that Eight Days footage.

I know that Jeff just kind of "meh'd" off Syphon Filter 2, but I loved it. I think he more or less said it was more of the same since the first game without anything new to bring to the table, but that was alright with me. And I get it and do agree with him, and would have given it about the same score... I think it was like a 6.5 or something, and brad gave the 3rd a 6.5 or something too. I totally agree, but I loved them, they are just above average and competent, but I loved the two sequels.

The 2 PSP games IMO were fantastic though and cannot wait to play this game on the PS3, even if it just a 7.0 or 8.0 game.

SP had some of the most intelligent and conning boss fights ever. Hopefully if its true, they'll keep that in mind.

I still remember the badass encounter with the flamethrower dude (sneaking and shooting his gas canister from behind) and the battle with Chance wearing full body armour with one-hit kills? ( lureing him into the helicopter tail and chopping him into pieces).

Thats the kind of stuff I want to see more of.

I've just looked through the teaser video posted in the gametrailers thread.

The Morse code it uses translates to:

LOGAN RETURNS.
TASER RETURNS. REST
CLASSIFIED. MOVE
AND SHARPSHOOTER
SUPPORT.

"My god!, Syphon Filter"

Loved that line in the original

"Anton Girdeux, I hope Rhoemer's paying you enough to DIE for him" will always be my favorite SF quote

Man I remember playing the SHIT out of the Georgia Street level on the PSM demo disc, SF1 was so awesome for its time

Someone has waaaay too much time on his hands to produce all this crap. It's not as if too many gamers care about this series anymore.

Of course it could be anything given that it's their London studio. But that team has some crazy tech as the leaked Eight Days footage showed

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r7KiyAl1vFY

That animation system is insane.

I really hope the video is fake and London studio is working on something else, I don't want them to touch Syphon Filter, maybe their animation system is good, but they are no Bend, after LS and DM only Bend deserve to put Syphon Filter on PS3.

This is like if The Last Guardian is getting made by Zipper, it's this level of bad.

What's so bad about SCE London? Maybe Bend and London work on it together... that'd be cool. It's too bad about Eight Days though, that always looked cool to me.

Really hoping for a Console iteration and not a handheld version... DM and LS are great games, but I've never enjoyed playing the PSP all that much. A full Console version, that'd be so great.

Edit: But not like Omega Strain!

I did not enjoy Omega Strain that much.

Sony London could be handling the programming while Bend handles the game design. That's how things work with Dragon Quest games (L5 has handled the programming for the recent games while Armor Project handles the design). That'd probably be for the best. London has experience with the PS3 and there wouldn't be a heavy workload put on Bend since they're already fully developing Uncharted PSP2.

Theres that and the fact that a while ago there was a description for motion capture for Syphon Filter 'PS3' at the same studio who did it for SOCOM 4.

I always like SF gameplay but I the characters are pretty damn forgettable, I only know the two main lead, Gabe and Lian. probably because the character design is not that great. I don't even remember too much about whether the story is good or bad. hopefully in the hands of new developer, they can actually make memorable character and more memorable story too.

Sorry for the epic bump, but now OPM Italy says again, adding some details more:

Syphon Filter 4 is rumored to be a sequel to PSP title Syphon Filter: Logan’s Shadow and is in development at SCE London Studio – it will also utilize a visually advanced engine. The respected publication revealed that the title will release exclusively for PS3 in Q4 2012, corresponding with previous rumors which surfaced in June, 2011.
