Fable New Trailer Revealed | Xbox Showcase 2023

Just stop please, seriously english is my first language. We all know what you implied, Greenberg for once had every right to say what he said because he was 100% correct.

So why should he not have said anything? Why post that at all? Is it because you wrongly thought CGI was used? If so that's fine but admit it, that's all I'm asking, have a nice day.
Jeez man, you lost an argument, just apologize, say you misread and move on and stop clogging up the thread.

I expect it holiday 2024 or 2025. Which is indeed why they focused on the graphics and atmosphere, and not really on the RPG elements.

That's the first thing they should focus on. But all the chatter around this game makes it looks like it's made by a bunch of amateurs in RPG department so I'm not expecting anything groundbreaking.

Ok, people start to make jokes about the main character while they don't realize it is part of their humor when you hear what is said in the trailer.
Btw, normally the characters look is customizable.

Does it even need to be part of intentional humor? What's next, intentional fat shaming? I like the character as is, it fits the vibe perfectly.

The character looks terrible, but considering they are going to have an editor is not a big problem. Graphically speaking, I don't trust for a second the game will going to looks like this in-game, I think this presentation will backfire badly when they'll going to show how the game looks for real during gameplay.

We'll see, at least the atmosphere and vibe is spot on. If they are able to match this with proper gameplay, you've got a great new Fable game

Dude, western devs have a weird fetish for women that look like ugly men. Some serious mental illness going around in the industry right now. It's probably gonna down as a weird cringy period in gaming after all is said and done.
I hope they keep making butch women so you cry more. It's just as entertaining as the gameplay.

The 'atmosphere' and 'vibe' is pretty much typical British humor, as it should be. No surprises there. There always next year, right?

I didn't like the trailer even though I love Richard Ayoade and thought the humor was cute. I think I needed a more traditional look at the game with more gameplay. The trailer would have probably worked better for me closer to release to show off the humor.

If you mean that I cry while I vomit then I understand where it is you're coming from. Also thanks for sharing with us your fetish for women that look like dog ugly inbred men.

All the people complaining about the looks of the characters in this game...I personally feel its intentional...

Fable, I feel...was always influenced by Terry Pratchet and just look at how his characters are described or how they are visualised in his books cover art...this looks kind of like a perfect blend of that and the original Fable style imo...
This!

I think she is supposed to be ugly by design, kind of like how Shrek is ugly, unsociable and is disliked within he's society for being just that. The intent could be one of humour, to evoke emotions that are generated over time to make you appreciate the characters' heart. Or perhaps it's to sustain medieval stereotypes of how ugly people were. Either way, I think it's definitely by design. But if someone makes another reference to Abby from TLoU2 again I will be sick to my stomach, please don't Banjo64 Banjo64

The guys part definitely looked closer to doeable than the town and pub parts which screamed CGI.
I don't want to do a frame by frame review of it, but you can see light leaks, shadows lacking in some parts, mesh collisions, texture filtering issues, skinning problems, hairs on cards with alpha test/cutout, simple geometry on rocks and plants, some branches on the ground are floating in the forest section, trees have leaves with simplified geo which is well seen with proper light position. There are things that indicate that it's not CGI. But then again you can have trailers that are made of the game assets but rendered with higher fidelity/offline (usually you do that when you outsource a trailer, but it works with popular engines like Unreal or Unity). Or like the first trailer of The Witcher 3 - rendered in-engine but with 1-3 fps and then speed up in external program.

You have here nice photoscaned assets (crisp and unique textures), with ok-ish characters (only Richard Ayoade looks great but he was scanned with proper facial animations - blend shapes). Lighting is quite good, but not like the best. The thing that is striking the most is the quality of post-process (like blur), fog and the draw distance. Those are things that probably wont be this good on consoles. It's a trailer, it was carefully made and polished. With the full game it's harder.

Not a surprise, but you should be able to properly capture it. They could've gone in a different direction and not be true to the original games. I expect we'll see more next year indeed.

I'd take your point more seriously if this was exclusive to this game or once in a while thing, but having very ugly butch women in games has become a common trend nowadays and is something that started not that long ago. In fact we have instances of devs openly talking on Twitter about making women less attractive on purpose as some kind of social justice statement.
I'd say that for most of the average looking women characters. They're usually just like average looking women but people freak out because they ain't models. This however looks to be intentional ugly as hell as it seems to fit what they're going for in this trailer. Fits right in with fable

Oh I think it's intentional alright, just like all the other butch ugly female characters we've been getting lately.

I mean as in the sense it's part of the character and humour. The butch's you're talking about are just devs trying to use and average looking women instead of some supermodels. Gives it bit more realism to they're games I guess. I guess it works in movies because most of the best actresses aren't the best looking as they seem to fit in roles more realistic. Instead of some vampire diary teenie bop trash where everyone's a supermodel and can't act for shit and just isn't a reflection as to what most people look like.

An average looking woman isn't butch and doesn't look like she works out 8 days a week or looks like she is a world champion shot putter. You're just using another extreme of everyone looking like a supermodel in order to make a case for make ugly butch women. If anyone thinks that an average women looks like one of the two then they clearly haven't been outside ever in their life.

I'm pretty sure if there was an average women in medieval times drinking beers at the pub with the boys and some crazy sword fighter she would probably be on the ugly side.

So you think they only have 1 gameplay designer... and because they're hiring, all work as stopped?
No, they don't have a solid direction yet, hence needing a SENIOR DIRECTOR.

If they did, we would have had a full-fat gameplay slice play out, what you saw, was a hollow cinematic proof of concept. Nothing more.

I'm sure she would be no supermodel, but we have photos of women 150 years ago and they sure don't look like that inbred character we saw in Fable trailer.

I wish we had gameplay after being teased about this game for three years. At this point it feels like we've been hoodwinked with no due date this year for sure and probably no due date next year either... What is going on over there? Fable is a great IP and I have loved the previous games so I'm really looking forward to a new one but don't string us along like this... it does nothing positive.

Or the current director is leaving (for whatever reason) and they are looking for a replacement to continue the work?
What work? There was no gameplay vertical slice. It was a cinematic proof of concept. Prove us wrong, MS. Let's see the input control gameplay segment. Show us a "let's play."

Phil Spencer looks bemused and laughs when Tamoor suggests there was no gameplay in Fable trailer. He then asks them, "why didn't you think there was gameplay? lol

Matt then talks about the strategy in the roadmap to announcing a game, then when it's next shown. Managing fan expectations by planning when and how they announce things. He states that when they get to a point where they announce a game, that they're confident enough about the progress the team is making, or at least that is the idea.

This is a great interview btw for anyone who is interested.

If it's in-game and captured on console hardware, that's probably a pretty good indicative of what the final game will look like, barring any artistic or technical changes (like changing puddle locations).
Possibly, but I don't consider it gameplay unless I see HUD, pause screens, inventory menus, etc...which leaves me skeptical, not just for this, but almost everything that was shown yesterday.

The game is two years out.

Do you know what a target is... they are aiming for it to look exactly like that.

I'm sorry but you think you are "clowning" on fools with your attitude but you are acting more like a fanboy than anything else.

Like ALL games 2 years out. This game will not look like that, especially if they are hiring senior developers still for the gameplay.

Remember the halo infinite reveal. With the sub and the rhinos and how awesome that looked.

Exactly

Instead of acting like a 12 year old you can understand that it both looks great but isn't an actual final product yet and will most likely get "downgraded" which actually means optimized but fanboys fail to understand that.

The infamous Halo Infinite trailer was in Engine

This is in-game. The game is targeted to look like that. A Fable dev confirmed what they showed was running on Series X hardware.

"If you haven't shown us, it means it doesn't exist" means you're convinced a lot of studios across both Xbox and PlayStation aren't actually doing anything.

Also, it's looking like some gameplay segments are intervoven in that in-game trailer.

Stop putting hyperbole in my mouth and projecting your goo gobbling defense for anything MS.

Yes and it looked pretty incredible, amazing artstyle coupled with technical prowess.
I can't believe people were doubting Playground when they always deliver.

Visuals in this looked stunning

Gave me god of war vibes in terms of set pieces too

I actually think some segments were semi taken from gameplay and think this will be representative of the visual quality during gameplay even though gameplay wasn't directly shown
They said this was running on xbox series x. But there will be downgrades. There always are.

But overall, this does look a cut above most games we have seen this gen.

Hyperbole? You're the one who went with 'what work' to start your comment. Meaning you're skeptical there's meaningful work done.

Absolutely nothing to 'defend' here.

Imagine claiming Fable doesn't have a 'solid direction' yet and insisting you weren't being hyperbolic 😀

I mean it's 2023, they advertised the announcement with a trail of fairy dust, are we even sure it is a biological woman in that trailer? I wouldn't be shocked if it is meant to be non-binary or one of those unintelligible qualifiers the kids these days use.

You saw cinematic flashy flair cuts. There was no gameplay vertical slice.

As of two weeks ago or so, they said they are looking for a senior gameplay designer for the game. Nothing inaccurate about what I said. You are just choosing to read that far into what I said, you are too emotionally invested. Stop getting in your feelings.

So it's been confirmed we don't have to play as this manly chick?

I don't think this is a fair assessment. Not sure who is leading the entire project at this point because I've been unable to find any articles on it. But the project definitely has a vision with plenty of competent people leading their respective departments. Anna Megill is the Lead Writer who previously worked on Control and Dishonoured DLC. Several staff from the Rocksteady Arkham team are on the project as well. Martin Lancaster (Batman: Arkham Knight's lead scriptwriter) is the Narrative Director. Martin Tan (was also on the Arkham team) is the Cinematic Director. William Kennedy (formally worked at Rockstar Games as a Level Designer) is the Chief Designer. They've chopped and changed the dev team over the years but to suggest that the project has no sense of direction and this trailer was 'hollow cinematic proof of concept' is a massive stretch.

If they were house women. Not beer drinking adventurer/hero joker. There would be a good chance they were inbred and fat at the time anyways

I never said they have "no sense of direction." But, they are looking for someone to "lead a cohesive vision." As you said, they have "chopped and changed" over the years.

I understood 'they don't have a solid direction' as no sense of direction. Still, there is no reason to believe that they haven't been able to sustain production throughout the changes and find footing to get to where they may seem to be at this point.

Missed the beginning of showcase and only had time to properly watch the trailer today. I have so much admiration for Ayoade as a comedian, actor and a pretty good filmmaker, but there was something off about him being rendered in a game engine. It is always a bit creepy uncanny valley territory (see Death Stranding, Control etc.). It is missing subtler nuances of his "filmed" acting and thus was never as funny as he can be. Also, something was off with his mouth animation - didn't really look like him.

It is also quite clear that the game is still far off and probably will be finished in two years or so, but I think they nailed the general idea what Fable game is supposed to feel like in 202X. I love that MS is mostly going for satire, humour and absurdity with their games instead of focusing on sadsack, super serious prestige stuff.

I have a theory on this...if you notice this trend started to happen as more and more women got into game design, direction and art with western development. It's probably something to do with them feeling better about their own self image when the women in their games don't completely blow their own looks out of the water...not this "representation" stuff they've been pedaling for the last few years
